Finding A Pro Golf Shirt Friday, February 12th, 2010

There are many different kinds of golf shirts available to buy and it can become overwhelming trying to choose the right one for you. This article will discuss everything there is to know about golf shirts, including some of the best places to buy them and other golfing apparel from.

So what is classified as a golf shirt these days? Well as we all know, golf is a very traditional sport and there are many different rules that players must follow when it comes to rules on the golf course. One of these rules that finds itself all across the world of golf, it that all players playing golf on a private golf course, must wear a collared shirt. So there’s the first thing you need to know about golf shirts. You have to now make sure that the one you buy has a collar on it.

One of the most popular collared shirts that many players where, are polo shirts. The first brand that comes to most peoples minds when they’re talking about polo shirts is Ralph Lauren. Yes we all know how expensive these shirts can be, however they are easily one of the best quality polo’s on the market today. If you don’t want to spend a great deal of money on a golf shirt, because you aren’t all that serious about your golf, then the are of course a lot of other less expensive brands that sell collared shirts for golf, including Nike, Adidas and many other sporting brands. Basically any golf brand that you can think of usually sells golf shirts and some of them are very affordable.

Do I have to wear a collared shirt in order to play golf? The answer to that question is no, with shades of grey. Most public courses allow people to play golf without a collared shirt, however not all of them. What you might have already noticed is that many public courses are starting to become less and less strict about the type of apparel people are allowed to wear on their course.

Almost every private course that I can think of however requires all players to wear collared shirts when playing on their course. You will find that most private courses are very strict about this as they want to make sure their course follows all the guidelines set by the PGA. This gives their course a sense of professionalism.

Now if you think that later on down the track you might want to join a private course, because you just can’t get enough of this great sport, then go out and buy yourself a few collared golf shirts for your wardrobe. Inevitably it’s going to make you feel like more of a pro and maybe your game might start improving as a result of this!

Can A Golf Tip Online Help Your Game Friday, February 12th, 2010

A golf tip online can save you hours out of your schedule, but can it really help your game? With more and more people getting Internet connections, golfers are flocking to the Internet in hopes to find tips, techniques and even total golf performance programs to save their golf game.

There are many concerns with taking a golf tip online and hoping it will be the silver bullet to your game. Always consider the source of this golf tip.

Usually the article or resource will have a mini-bio of the person who authored the information with a link to either their site or some kind of indepth explanation of who the person is and what their credentials are.

Any golfer no matter what their ability or certifications can post a golf tip online via website, blog or article. On the Internet this is rampant! There are more so-called gurus than ever before. Every golfer probably has some valuable information they have to give, but if they are not qualified to give it, they should probably keep it for their own game.

With the Internet turning into more of a ‘pay-for-content’ vehicle, there are many qualified people who are putting valuable golf tips online, along with reports, ebooks and even complete membership sites.

Web surfers would never know what reports, ebooks and membership sites are the most credible and original in format and effectiveness. I am always hesitant with reading any golf tip online until I thoroughly look into the person behind the product. How long have they been in their profession? What successes have they helped create? And if you can personally talk to several people who have purchased and benefited from their products?

In researching these products and programs, read all the copy on the site. You will read some pretty amazing stuff that’s hard to swallow. These claims seem impossible when you look at how long they’ve been on the net and how many so-called golfers theyve helped. Just do some math and you’ll find that these numbers are most likely false.

The bottom line with any golf tip online is if it does in fact help your game. If it does, you will most likely tell other golfing friends about it and the website and business will be successful just from word-of-mouth.

And one last piece of advice. Any person or business giving golf tips online should be reachable. You should easily be able to find their contact information, including phone number. When I answer my phone, people are shocked! I ask them why, and they say they didn’t think there was a ‘real person’ behind it.

That’s a sad situation that shows the skepticism of web visitors. If you have to look hard for the contact information, I would not recommend using or purchasing any golf tips or programs online.

I don’t want to deter you, but just do a little homework when searching for a golf tip online.

Other Handy Golf Tips:
1. Source any natural dietary supplements which will help to keep you fit and healthy and keep your body in good shape to play golf.
2. Develop complete confidence in yourself and your game – need to be tough-minded and totally focused when you play golf.
3. Learn all known golf bets so that you can bet to your advantage and apply psychological pressure on your opponents at opportune moments.

Understand Your Golf Clubs Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Basically, a set of clubs consists of ‘woods’ and irons and a putter.

WOODS
Woods ( a generic term for the shape of the club as these are often made of other materials) are the more bulbous headed clubs with greater clubhead density, designed for propelling the ball longer distances. Originally, these numbered from 1 (Driver) to 4-wood, but these days it seems that woods can have any degree of loft and can number down to the higher iron numbers.

IRONS
A normal set of irons consists of numbers 3 to 9, together with a pitching wedge and sand wedge for use around the greens and from bunkers. The lower the number on the club, normally the longer the shaft to give a bigger swing arc, and the less the degree of loft on the face. These are designed to hit the ball lower over longer distances. The higher the number, the shorter the shaft and greater degree of loft. These are intended to hit the ball higher and over shorter distances.

There are a number of additional clubs, such as a 1 or driving iron, and a lob wedge with a very high degree of loft, which is intended to get the ball very high, thereby reducing the amount of run on the ball once it lands.

THE PUTTER
Has a flat face, and is designed to cause the ball to roll along the ground in places such as the putting green.

Basically, the golfer is free to choose his/her optimal selection of clubs, the only provisos being the maximum number (14) which may be taken out on a given (competitive) round, and the fact that the design of the club must conform to the rules as laid down by the authorities and amended from time to time as part of the rules of golf.

Pick up any golf magazine, and you will be presented with a bewildering array of clubs and balls even clothing all of which are guaranteed to put additional distance on your drives or spin on your pitch shots. The reality is that for the vast majority of golfers they will probably make very little, if any, difference.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO START?
When you start out in the game, a good basic set or half-set is as good as anything. Ok, if you are abnormally short or tall, you may experience some difficulty with standard sizing and may have to have something specially made. Other than that, there is no real requirement for heading to your local leading brand specialist and having a set made up of special lengths, shaft types, grip thickness and all of the other variables that can go into club design.

The Equation For Junior Golf Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Junior golf + beginners + equipment = quite the equation for sports fanatics. In order to correctly supply an answer and conclusion for the above problem, it is very important to identify each of the individual portions of the equation. This will allow us to understand the essential pieces of each factor, which will help youths to understand the game and their roles within the sport to a more effective and efficient degree. It is very important for youths that are just getting into the sport of golf to be aware of the many ways in which these components interact. As with any other sport, there will be a necessary period of adjustment.

There are very few people who can go out into the world, pick up a sport for the first time and excel at it. Instead, sports typically require an individual to learn about the sport and examine it from different angles before they can excel at the sport. In the equation junior golf + beginners + equipment, we have learned that sometimes beginners are children. There are some sports that will be easier for individuals to learn as children, and others as adults. Golf can go either way, but in this instance the focus will be on the youths and children, because this is what junior golf refers to.

Beginners are those who are not necessarily familiar with a sport or activity, and those who will need to learn more about it, when we look at the junior golf + beginners + equipment equation. After establishing that the individual is a youth, we can observe that since they are also a beginner, they are probably not aware of very much in the game. By finding the simplest terms to explain to a child, parents are able to approach the topic of golf with their children. It will be necessary to explain the use of the clubs and the point of the game that the youth would be taking up. This leads into the final component of the junior golf + beginners + equipment theory. Equipment should be purchased after the child has been briefed on what golf is all about.

In many instances, children will be very excited to take up a new activity, but it is important to establish this prior to spending the money on the golf equipment. This is because a parent will not want to spend money on an item and then return it later because their child is not interested in the sport. In addition, it can be beneficial to have the youth on hand when shopping for their equipment begins, and this is because they can provide insight into which clubs they like best and which they are most comfortable using. For many parents, this is helpful because they want to be reassured that the items that are picked out will be used by the child, and in many instances aesthetics can play into that. When it comes to looking at junior golf + beginners + equipment, it is necessary that individuals examine all components in order to ensure that the child will be prepared for the game, and as successful as they can be at the start of their inclusion into the world of golf.

Golf-Beginner Basics I-00-3264 Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

The popularity of golf has increased tremendously over
the past forty five years, giving us champions like
Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods, and
world-renowned courses like Pinehurst, Augusta
National and the Blue Monster at Doral.

Why has golf become so popular? It’s the opportunity
to be outside, to get a good whole body workout,
network with friends or business colleagues at a
leisurely pace, and to play a game that you can never
perfect.

Your scorecard, over time, shows your improvement,
which keeps you playing again and again.

Here is a very basic lesson in golf for the person who
has no clue about the game.

Golf is played on an eighteen-hole course; each hole
has its “par”, which is the number of tee shots
(drives), fairway shots, chips (short hits as you
approach the green), and putts.

The par number is based on the length and difficulty
of the hole. Pars range from 3 to 6. If you get the
ball in the hole in five shots on a par five hole, you
“made par.” If it took you six shots, it’s called a
bogie, if you made it in four, it’s a birdie.

There are usually “hazards” of some sort on all the
holes. Bodies of water, sand traps, and trees are
strategically placed to make the hole more
challenging. Beginner golfers should seek to find
courses to play that are easier to play, with fewer
hazards.

Each player keeps their own score, marking the number
of total number of shots for each hole. At the end,
each person adds their scores-the lowest number is the
winner.

It is important for beginner golfers to not take
themselves too seriously. It takes a long time to get
good at this game; even though the professionals make
it look so easy.

Take a lesson or two at the onset; it will help you
develop a proper swing and help you get off to a good
start.

Remember that it’s just a game. Have fun and look at
the big picture-you’re outside and you’re not at work!

Mind your Language When Playing Golf! – PART 1 Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

How many times have you heard a particular tune and found yourself humming it the next day? Do you remember how at school you learnt lots of things by hearing or seeing them and then repeating them? How did you learn to walk? Did you see someone else walking and then copy them? If you set out to learn a second language now, today, would you see the words and try to say them, hear the phrases and try to imitate them? How did you learn to play golf? Why do you speak in the accent that you do?

We learn through our senses. We take in information via our senses and then our minds compute that information and make sense of it all. We are, all of us, inherently “suggestible”. We learn through mimicking, copying and suggestion. Things seem to “rub off” onto us.

The ability we human beings have to learn in this way is amazing; it is fantastic…so long as we are mimicking, copying and responding to the right suggestions. If we hear something a few times, whether we like it or not, we will tend to find ourselves repeating it; hence sometimes hearing an “annoying” tune in your head. If we do something several times we tend to keep doing that thing, whether we really consciously want to or not; it becomes a habit, smoking, for example, or buying a snickers bar every time you fill up with gas.

Our minds work by generalizing patterns of thought and behavior over context. For example, as a child you learned to recognize a glass as a glass. And then every time you see any type of glass it is recognizable to you as a glass – it has been generalized in your mind over context. Where the generalization is accurate, this ability we have is supremely beneficial; when it is flawed, it can have an extremely debilitating effect…

How many times have you heard yourself say “I can’t putt”, “I can’t get off the tee”, or some variation of this theme? Is this generalization accurate? The reality of the situation is that on this particular putt, or this particular tee shot, you used your club to hit the ball and the ball went wherever it went. Full stop! That is what happened; nothing more, nothing less. Why should that mean that you CANT putt (ever) or get off the tee (ever)?

The problem here is that you aren’t looking at the reality of the situation, you aren’t focusing on the present, you have switched your awareness into a “generalization” mode, and you are creating a self-fulfilling prophesy. You end up not being able to putt or get off the tee because this is what you have suggested to yourself. In the words of Henry Ford “If you think you can you can; and if you think you can’t you’re right”.

If someone else was as critical about your golf as you are, how would you react? If your “mates” stood there saying “you can’t putt” would you just stand by and take it? Or would you get a bit defensive and feel that the comment was “unfair” or “unnecessary” to say the very least? It pays to remember that we humans respond to suggestions, be it consciously or subconsciously, and that we can choose to accept or to reject those suggestions. Would you be as critical about your playing partner’s swing as you are about your own? Why be so hard on yourself? Why be so very negative and destructive? Why do you actually consciously choose to do something which will destroy your golf game? You know that you are telling yourself you can’t do it, so why not change the language you use?

Why not change the suggestions which you are giving to yourself? You can learn how to change your habitual internal language with the help of hypnosis downloads. Why do you think the professionals use golf hypnosis? They use golf hypnosis because it works; hypnosis downloads can be used to get you to focus, to stay in the now, to see what you really want to see. You can use golf hypnosis downloads to stop generalizing and to enjoy your golf a whole lot more than before.

What to Consider When Picking Out Your First Set of Golf Clubs Monday, February 8th, 2010

Golf is a game enjoyed by millions of people worldwide. Whether you are seven, seventeen or seventy, golf is a game that is both challenging and fun. As with many other things in life, starting is the most difficult part. A beginner golfer has several choices to make, and one of the most important of these choices is what kind of clubs to get. These days, it is very easy to spend a lot of money on state of the art golf clubs. However, the game of golf can also be played and enjoyed with a set of more inexpensive clubs. There are several aspects to consider when you are picking out your first set of golf clubs.

If you are new to the game of golf and are not sure whether you will like it or not, or if you are the type of person that tends to take up a hobby and tire of it quickly, an inexpensive set of golf clubs is probably your best option. Not only is it a more affordable approach, but choosing an inexpensive set also gives you the option of replacing them with a better set of clubs at some point down the line. Most stores and websites carry several varieties of inexpensive golf clubs.

If you do not want to spend a lot of money on a golf club set, you can also consider buying a half of a set of clubs. This option is more reasonable for beginners, as well as for many experienced players who want to save a few dollars. As the name suggests, a half set of clubs contains about half of the standard number of clubs. If you are choosing a full set, keep in mind that the rules of golf allow a maximum of 14 clubs to be carried at one time.

Your skill level will greatly influence the specific clubs that you decide to use during your game. If you are new to the game, you may want to carry more of the lower numbered irons (7, 8, 9, PW), which tend to be easier to control but have less distance. If you are just starting out, you probably do not need more than one wood. In most cases for a beginner, a three wood is generally easier to control than a driver, and the difference in length will not make much of a difference. The putter will be one of your most important clubs, and since there are so many different styles of putters, it is usually not sold as part of a set of golf clubs. You can simply go to a good golf store and spend some time trying out different putters with the help of a golf professional.

Most standard golf clubs are designed for a right handed male who is about 5 feet, 10 inches tall. If you are close to this in height, you probably do not need to be measured for your golf clubs. Being measured or fitted for golf clubs is similar to being measured for a suit. If you are taller or shorter than the standard height and are picking out your first set of golf clubs, you should definitely consider being measured. This way, you can be sure the clubs you have chosen are just right for you. There are golf clubs designed specifically for left-handed individuals, women and for children as well. Keep in mind that custom clubs usually come with a higher price tag.

Another thing that you may want to consider when picking your first set of golf clubs is whether to use steel or graphite shafted clubs. Steel shafted clubs are generally more affordable and more durable whereas graphite shafted clubs are lighter and can also help produce a faster swing. Wooden drivers are all but a thing of the past, as most modern drivers now have heads made from metal such as titanium, or a composite such as carbon fiber. Titanium is ideal for golf clubs as it is lighter, stronger, and more resistant to corrosion. Most importantly, however, it has an increased hitting area, or sweet spot, which can provide greater accuracy. If you are taking the game seriously, you may want to buy metal woods. If you are just starting out, older wooden drivers are adequate.

It is important to remember that golf is as much a game of practice and positive thinking as it is of skill and accuracy. For most golfers, golf is not a game that you can quickly master. It takes time, dedication and plenty of practice. Some golfers, even after improving their game to an acceptable level, develop a hitch in their swing which can throw their entire game off. As stated before: whether you are seven, seventeen or seventy, golf is a game that is both challenging and fun. Choosing a set of clubs that feels comfortable in your hands and practicing often will help you get the most enjoyment out of golf, and will help your score as well!

There are many types of drivers available in the market. Those are titanium driver, steel driver and driver from composite material but you have to select right golf driver which is most suitable for you. Golf drivers are generally made from steel, titanium, and composite. The three materials are very different and this should be kept in mind when you are choosing your driver.

You can find steel drivers in the market. If you want to choose less expensive golf driver then steel golf driver is best. These steel drivers made from steel so they are heavier in weight. They are more durable and with less price. You can always have better ball connection with steel golf driver. Connection with the golf ball with steel driver is better. Steel drivers give you better service then any other golf driver.

Titanium is the best and the most expensive kind of material of which a club can be composed. This is because they are light and at the same time, they have a large head on the end. This gives the golfer the ability to increase the spot, making it possible to hit good shots even when off balance. The titanium driver saves people extra shots when the crunch time comes on the golf course.

The composite driver combines the advantages of titanium and non-metallic materials. These are clubs with a relatively small head on them. The driver’s weight centers near the face of the club, supposedly giving the golfer a bigger sweet spot. There is never a sacrifice of distance when you’re using this kind of driver ad yet, they don’t weigh too much.

Which ever material your golf driver made from but it should be most comfortable for you and most suitable for you. As golf driver is essential golf equipment you must not select it vaguely. How to Improve Your Mental Golf Approach Between Shots with Golf Psychology Saturday, February 6th, 2010

If I were to ask you what you do between shots during a round of golf, you’d probably think I was missing the point. After all, golf psychology and teaching should be all about helping you to hit better shots and putts during a round of golf or in practice, shouldn’t it? This applies whether you’re working with a teaching pro helping you with your golf swing or with a golf psychologist helping to improve your mental approach to golf.

So what do you actually do in the time between assessing and hitting your shots and putts? It really should take a lot less than a minute on average to size up a shot, decide on how to play it, set up to the ball and hit it. I seem to recall from somewhere that the US PGA allows 45 seconds for all this per shot and very few people take that long over a short putt. So all that should add up to a maximum of 54 minutes actually playing golf to go round in 72 strokes and 72 minutes to go round in 90 strokes. If you take just 4 hours to play a round then you’re not actually playing for approximately 3 hours in every 18 holes.

What many people do in this spare 3 hours in every round is to get down on themselves mentally. Just watch how many golfers trudge between shots with their heads down and seemingly just staring at the ground a few feet ahead. Many of them are talking to themselves and often what they’re saying is not usually fit for publication. Thankfully, they normally keep the voice inside their heads, but I’m sure you’ve played the odd round with a playing partner who berates himself loudly during the course of a round – I know I’ve done that in the, hopefully distant, past and I’m not proud of it.

So what’s wrong with keeping your head down between shots? Well just watch how people typically stand when life is on the up. Yes, they stand erect with their head held high. And when they are feeling down, their heads tend to be down. Psychological research also demonstrates that this works the other way too, so if you walk between shots with your head down and your shoulders a bit slumped, you’ll automatically feel down. In the same way, you will feel like things are looking up if you’re walking erect with your head raised high.

Have you ever noticed how depressed people seem to be in many nursing homes and how many of them walk around in a bent over posture? Well I met a husband and wife recently, both doctors, who are incorporating NLP concepts into posture management. They’ve found that they can improve the posture and, more importantly, increase the level of happiness and optimism of patients in nursing homes by simply replacing the lounge chairs with ones that encourage a more upright sitting posture and hanging televisions from the ceilings rather than sitting them on the floor. Those simple changes lead to wholesale improvements in people’s posture, health and happiness.

Next time you play golf; try walking between shots with your back straight and your head held high. You could even use golf hypnosis to help you to remember not to forget to do it when you play. However you’re actually feeling when you start and regardless of any bad shots you hit, I suspect you’ll be amazed at how much better and more positive you’ll feel as the game progresses. It may even have an impact on your enjoyment of this wonderful game of golf and, who knows, you may even score better.

The Review Of Golf Equipment Saturday, February 6th, 2010

It can be very helpful for individuals to look at different Junior golf equipment reviews in order to get an unbiased perspective about the goods and items that an individual is considering investing their money in, in order to help improve their golf game or their child’s golf game. When a person invests in a piece of equipment, no matter what it is, they are going to want to know that other people in their type of situation have been able to purchase the equipment and in the end were able to benefit from the purchase. This is typically because the individual does not want to be wasting their money and wants to know that in the end they are making the best economic decision for them based on the information that they have received.

Junior golf equipment reviews help in this manner because a person is able to see what other people think about the equipment. A beneficial review will typically include the positive attributes of the equipments, maybe some of the drawbacks, and in some cases the typical lifespan of the piece of equipment that is being discussed by the person that is posting.

Many individuals that own Junior golf equipment could help others by posting Junior golf equipment reviews. This is because other people will be very interested to know about the pieces. When a person goes into a physical store, they are offered the chance to see the items up close and personal, and are able to interact with the pieces in most cases. People appreciate this. When shopping online, despite the convenience that it offers people, there is still a drawback in that people cannot interact with the items that they are looking at. This is why, in the online world, it is so helpful for people to be able to read the reviews that have been published by other consumers, those that own the item in question. Consumers want to hear about how the item handles, since they cannot interact with it on their own. Reviews help people get as intimate an experience as they can with the item without actually being able to physically come in contact with the item while they are shopping.

In the end, it is very helpful for people to be able to observe and be able to post Junior golf equipment reviews. People appreciate the service that is being offered to them, but in addition to that a person is able to help consumers. Those who already own the equipment and like it can help others to make the wise investment of purchasing Junior golf equipment, and this helps to ensure that the person who is looking to improve their golf game will be able to do so. Online reviews are a great way for people to interact and offer pertinent information about different products that they would want to know themselves. Junior golf equipment reviews help people to see the item not in the light of the marketing team, but from the vantage point of the typical every day consumer.

Golf Apparel – It’s All About Good Golf Etiquette Friday, February 5th, 2010

When playing golf, there are many rules. It isn’t juat a matter of turning up to a golf course, playing a round of golf and then going home. You have to show good golf etiquette to be able to fit in with your surroundings and also to be allowed to play at the golf club.

One of the many rules of etiquette on the links is for each golfer to wear the proper golf apparel. This is one of the most important rules on the golf course. Following a strict dress code on the golf course, is something that most golf clubs and courses, even the public ones, require the golfers to do. Probably the most popular rule is the one of requesting that the golfers wear a collared shirt, although many courses also require long pants to be worn – not jeans of course – and proper golf shoes.

The primary rule of etiquette when actually hitting the links, is to show up on schedule for your tee time. It is important to be considerate of others and for you to not arrive a few minutes before tee off, still wanting to have a few practice swings on the driving range. Give yourself plenty of time, along with practice time, you will also need to find somewhere to park your car, purchase your golf balls, get changed into the correct golf apparel and collect your cart.

Cell-phones are also a big no no. Cell-phones are not part of the correct golf apparel and this should be considered before setting off on the course. They should either be left behind in your car or locker or if absolutely neccessary and needed for emergencies, should be kept in your bag, turned off.

Be sure that, when you are out on the golf course, you have a good understanding of the rules by which the other golfers want to play. Know, in advance, whether they honor the preceding holes score, for insance, by letting the golfer with the best score tee off on the next hole, or do they let whoever is ready to tee off, go first? It is possible, if you aren’t careful, ot offend strangers, if you have decided to join their group when you play, by not playing to their rules.

Along with the plaid pants, sweater vests, flat caps and other stereotypical golf apparel, golfers are also best known for their obsession with silence on the golf course. This does, however, make sense when you are concentrating into putting everything into your swing to hit a tiny ball with a long nearrow stick. Silence is a must!

So, even if you are just playing a round of golf with your friends, make sure to observe the basic rule of keeping quiet during shots and not to stand in the shooters direct line of vision.

Follow the rules, treat others on the course as you would like to be treated and have a great enjoyable game.

Small Engine Repair: Improving your Mower or Golf Cart for Better Fuel Efficiency Friday, February 5th, 2010

As the summer months roll in and the war in the Middle East continues to rage on, fuel costs are steadily rising. Whatever reason you want to attribute the higher costs of fuel, it’s a simple fact that the prices are going up, and this could affect more than just automobiles. It also affects your mower. However, fuel efficient mowers are becoming all the rage now, and they’re making an impact on consumers and the fuel market. Small motors that are used in mowers are easy to maintain with the right knowledge or the right mechanic. They won’t suck up so much fuel as older models would have, which will save you a pretty penny in this time of expensive fuel and rising costs.
Mowers use small engines, which are relatively simple to build and maintain. They also use a lot less fuel than larger automobile engines. There are a couple reasons for this, one of which involves the fact that small engines are two-stroke, while larger engines are four-stroke. This means that it needs half the rotations in order for the fuel to spark and create the energy needed to power the mower, or whatever equipment that’s being run on the small engine. This helps with fuel maintenance while other aspects of a small engine simply make it easier to run. For one, since small engines don’t create as much heat, they can be cooled by the surrounding air, while larger engines need cooling liquid to run through it in order to properly cool down.
While power and performance are still important for mowers, manufacturers are spending more time and focus on fuel efficiency as a response to growing cost of fuel. Diesel fuels, which have always been used in small engines, such as the ones that are used in lawn mowers have always added to the machine’s fuel economy. Diesel contains greater energy content than gasoline, giving it more a bang, while also being generally cheaper than gasoline.
Conventional diesel engines, such as what is used in many mowers, can also be run by a form of alternative fuel, called biodiesel fuel. This reusable, natural fuel is made from vegetable oil and animal fat. It runs just fine in diesel engines and is much more fuel efficient. Not to mention there are numerous environmental pluses to using this type of fuel in addition to is being cheap to produce.
Propane is another fuel type that is being worked with by manufacturers, who are using this alternative fuel source to power newer models of mowers. Propane is cheaper and can be used to power many types of mowers, making it a popular new choice for people looking to save money in response to the rising costs of gasoline. Propane is also the most widely available type of alternative fuel and is great for the environmentally-conscious types, as it has much less noxious emissions than other fuel types.
A recent development in small engine mower technology is the addition of gasoline engines with Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) systems. This technology, which has been used by Kohler small engines, a leader in EFI, helps with fuel economy in traditional carbureted engines. The monetary savings you get when using Kohler engines that enable EFI technology is reason enough to consider it as a fuel efficient new energy for a motor. For every $3.00 gallon of gasoline used in a mower, EFI technology will make it efficient enough to actually save $0.75. That’s an impressive feat, leading a number of top name brands to use Kohler engines in their products.
So, as price continues to rise on the fuel front, mower manufacturers are coming up with new technologies and alternative fuel sources. It’s changing the face of small engines and mower technology, and it’s very possible these changes will make a lasting influence on the fuel economy of mowers. It will be only a matter of time to see if these cheaper alternatives will stick around, if and when gas prices fall.

Golf Confidence Is Manufactured Through Thinking Not Playing Friday, February 5th, 2010

A confident golfer is one who thinks in a positive manner and is focussed on what he/she wants to have the ball do. Example: “I want the ball to land on that tiny patch of slightly darker grass in the left hand half of the fairway and run out from there.”

A golfer lacking in confidence is going to be thinking about their shortcomings, inadequacies and what they don’t want the ball to do. Example: “I can’t afford to slice the ball here or it is going to be in the river!”

I am just going to throw something in here, out of place on purpose, because I want it to work around in your mind and be accepted while we discuss other things. Confidence comes before playing well. Confidence can and should be made by the player regardless of how they are playing and not waited for as a result of playing well.

There is no doubt that confidence has a big effect on our mind and body performance and given two players, one a little more skilled than the other but suffering a confidence problem, give me the lesser skilled golfer who is playing with confidence.

If you are suffering a confidence problem remember this. At a base level, you only need to be confident for the time that it takes to go through your pre shot routine and swing the club. That takes between 20 and 30 seconds max for the entire routine and the actual swing is only 2-3 seconds of that. So you could even say that you only need to feel confident for 3 seconds on every swing.

What makes you feel un-confident? It’s the fear of failure. The fear that the result of the shot will be bad. Think about it this way. If you knew you could not fail and the result would be fine, wouldn’t you swing with confidence, secure in the knowledge that the result would be good? Of course you would. So fear of failure in the future (because you have not made the shot yet) is what causes anxiety and a lack of confidence in the present.

What would happen if you were not thinking about the future and were not concerned with the result of the shot? Wouldn’t you swing away confidently? If you have no fear of the future then you will commit to the shot and swing with the confidence of a golfer in the zone. The zone is when you are so fully absorbed in the present moment that no past thoughts of poor shots creep into your thinking, and there is no worry over the possibility of a bad shot that has not actually happened.

Worrying about the possibility of a bad outcome of your shot is predicting the future in a negative manner. It’s a recipe for disaster and you deserve to get poor results from that thinking.

To help you stay in the present you must become fully focussed on your target. An exact spot where you want the ball to go and imagine it doing exactly what you want it to. Hold this image in your mind as you swing or fully focus on the back of the ball and see if you can notice the club striking it. The more you practice techniques to get your mind focussed the better you will get at it.

You will know you are doing well when you have no thoughts about the result and if you do have a worry about the direction of the ball, or outcome of the shot while swinging, then it is feedback that you must get mentally stronger.

Only developing the ability to play one shot at a time and remain fully in the present moment is acceptable if you have desires to play your best golf on the most consistent basis humanly possible.

Wishing you FIR’s, GIR’s & Blue Skies.

Channel Your First Tee Nerves into Unconscious Golf Resources for Better Golf Thursday, February 4th, 2010

There’s a danger we treat fear completely as a bad thing in golf psychology. Now I know this goes against a lot of what I’ve been saying, but I’m talking here about the thin end of fear – nervousness. For many people, nervousness is the buzz of competition, whether we’re competing with other people, ourselves or the golf course we happen to be playing.

For many people the buzz is part of the enjoyment. Perhaps that’s what Mark Twain was referring to when he wrote that “Golf is a good walk spoiled” and HRH Princess Anne meant when she said “Golf seems to be an arduous way to go for a walk. I prefer to take the dogs out.”

Personally, I feel that if I’m not nervously shaking when I get near the end of a seriously good scoring round or close game of match play then I might as well give up golf and go and do something else that excites and inspires me. Jack Nicklaus knew that if you didn’t feel nervous at the end of a tournament you’re trying to win then there’s something wrong with you – he thrived on it. It’s said that he stopped winning golf tournaments when he no longer got so nervous in competition. And you don’t have to be winning to get that feeling, just competing hard in some way. If you watched the duel between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson during the last round of the 2009 Masters, you’ll know just what mean.

The important thing to remember is to channel that nervous energy into an enhanced state of focus using self hypnosis with deep breathing is one of the best ways I know for doing just that. Alternatively, you could follow the instructions in my article entitled Balance Your Golf Mind and Body for Better Golf – Focus on your Hara. Now anchor that feeling and add it to your unconscious golfing resources. Now you can access the great feeling, that Jack Nicklaus loves so much, whenever you want it or need it.

Like so many of the things I have learned as a golf psychologist, I do so wish I’d known about all this wonderful NLP and golf hypnosis a long time ago when I got so nervous at Hexham, playing with Tony Jacklin at Brookmans Park and whenever I seemed to be on the first tee anywhere!

How To Be The Best Golf Player With Good Golf Fitness Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Golf, like all other games, requires a well-rounded approach to achieving success at the level you desire. Being a good golf player goes far beyond having an ideal score of below 80. Although skill plays a major part, good golf fitness is the key to winning golf games with ease.

To be a good golf player, you have to get down past the three areas of:

– Golf Fitness,
– Golf Practice,
– Etiquette.

1. Golf Fitness
Keeping your body and mind in excellent shape is a key element to becoming a good, if not great, golf player. Looking after your body and making sure it is in shape not only gets you to perform better on the course, it also ensures you that you can enjoy golf even well into your years.

Achieve the desired golf fitness body by eating right and exercising regularly. Maintain cardiovascular fitness and muscle tone that suits the game of golf. Some indicators of physical fitness are your blood pressure and your BMI (body mass index). Consult with your doctor on what levels are right for your age and body type.

On the other hand, mental fitness is also just as important. Find ways to relieve yourself of stress. Develop a regular meditation time alone or with family/friends. Keep your mind sharp by exercising it with reading or with puzzles like crosswords.

2. Golf Practice
All professional golfers have a regular and consistent practice routine. Many amateur golf players find themselves wanting to play more and practice less when it is the opposite that gets better results as far as scores go. By practicing more, you develop techniques and muscle memory that will carry you well into your game.

An ideal play to practice ratio is 1:2, that is, for every hour of golf you play, you should do 2 hours of practice. This may not be done all in the same day. It is advised to alternate practice and play days so as not to work out too much.

Never stop learning more about the game. Knowing how to play does not mean you cannot learn more and be better. Remember that there is always something new you can learn so either enroll in a class or take up a lesson or two with a more advanced player. This can be done on an annual basis. Constantly wanting to improve your golf skills shows your dedication to becoming a better player than you were the year before.

3. Etiquette
Being a great player on the course and on the practice field is nothing if you are not a good person to play with. Rudeness is never condoned in sports and certainly not in golf. Golf is a gentleman’s game and rules pertaining to respecting others are of utmost importance.

Made from the finest artificial grass in the industry, a home practice facility is a quick and easy installation matched only by the ease of accessing the game you love on a moment’s notice. An addition such as this promises that your will to be great will be matched by your ability to pursue that greatness. Your game can only benefit as a result.

Installing a basement green offers an intrinsic benefit that goes beyond your game. Consider for a moment not only the unique aesthetic it will add to your home but the added value it’s certain to bring. It’s safe to say that very few homes in your neighborhood or any other will be able to boast of such a unique and versatile basement area. And because it’s indoors there is of course no maintenance involved. Your only responsibility will be to enjoy your basement green and reap the benefits when the golf season comes around again.

Golf Fitness Videos- Save Time And Improve Your Game Monday, February 1st, 2010

Using a golf fitness video is a great alternative to going to a gym. Just think of the time you’re saving not worrying about what you where or how you look or driving 20 to 30 minutes to your local gym and then showering, changing and getting back home.

Golfers are realizing that a golf fitness video is a great shortcut to a better game, quickly. The great thing is you don’t have to be young or fit to do it. I have golfers who are in their 70’s doing my fitness videos.

When you’re researching fitness videos, there are several things to keep in mind. There should be easy to follow demonstrations of every golf exercise. This is separate from the workout component of the fitness video. You want a menu that is user-friendly and easy to move around to the different sections of the video.

But what you are really paying for is the fitness workout itself. There should be a component of the video that takes you through the entire fitness session, from start to finish. This way it’s like having the trainer right in your home.

I have seen hundreds of fitness videos that do not take you through the entire routine. They are pieced together and leave you trying to figure out what to do with it.

Another important point. Watch out for the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. This is not what you want. You want to be lead through a routine that is suitable for your current level of fitness, age and abilities.

If your starting point is a little lower, then a fitness dvd that is more challenging will only promote you to fail. I’ve seen this time and time again.

On the other hand, if you are an experienced exerciser, you want a video that is more challenging than a beginner (novice) one. One that will challenge your core stabilization, balance, coordination and muscular endurance.

This may sound like a lot to think about, but making the right choice will dictate the ultimate success of your program. So make sure to thoroughly read over all the information pertaining to that golf fitness video.

The Proper Golf Swing is Very Uncomplicated, in Reality it’s a Simple Golf Swing Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Golf in itself is a simple game to understand, hit the ball into a hole. Sounds trouble-free enough, but understanding the golf swing is a difficult task. Learn to have a simple golf swing and you will as a matter of fact have a proper golf swing.

A golfer not using a simple golf swing is one big reason 80 percent of golfer?s never get a handicap of less than 18. This alone will cause you not to be consistent with your golf swing. Learning to have a good consistent swing and most of your golfing difficulties will dissolve.

One of the main things to help you with consistency in your swing is always to remember to hit the ball square, this will get you shooting longer distances any time and that in itself can shave off 6 to 12 or even more strokes off your score. Having a simple golf swing will surely improve the consistency of your swing. With a simple swing you have no pointless movement and is easier.

Keeping your swing simple is one of the greatest and easiest ways to improve your game each and every time.

Having a secure spine during your swing is one great tip to a simple swing. Using your spine as an axis for your body rotation will be of assistance to you by simply keeping your spine straight. Many golfers make this blunder and have a lot of movements that are unnecessary wasting a lot of energy. Be sure to coil around your spine and prevent hip rotation to the least amount possible.

Keeping your spine straight will automatically limit your hip rotation when you swing. Hip rotation will make you sway while you are swing, which is not key to a good swing. You can restrain the sway out of your swing by remembering to only swing around your spine.

Another crucial part of your is the power in your swing. Many people seem to believe that to get a powerful swing you need to pull the club back as far as possible, when the key to a powerful swing is only pulling back enough to coil around your spine.

When you are looking for the easiest way to develop your game quickly it may not be as difficult as you would imagine. Using the simplest golf swing for you using the exact power will have you on top of your game in a short amount of time.

Using a consistent simple golf swing helps you play even in the tensest of games and playing settings. This will help you find the proper golf swing for you and launch your confidence soaring.

All the information you need to expand your golf game is at the Better Golfing Blog. Find everything you need about golf from understanding the golf swing to the proper golf swing

How To Improve On Your Golf Swing Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Watch the pros on Tour and notice how in-control they look at the finish position of the their golf swing. Why? Because they are!

They are in perfect balance. Even the pro who might look a little “crooked” at the end of the swing has a balanced swing. Vijay, who is slightly bent to the side at the finish position of his driver, is still in perfect balance.

How often do you think an amateur practices or even thinks about his or her finish position? Probably never. I would surmise that once contact has been made with the golf ball, most amateurs’ thoughts shift to the ball flight rather than where our body is finishing the swing.

Why is the finish position so important to a successful golf swing? And beyond that being in a balanced finishing position?

The finish position is directly related to two very important concepts involved in the golf swing. Number one is swing plane and clubhead is number two.

The swing plane is defined as the path on which the golf club should travel upon during the swing.

A quick review of the swing plane tells us that beginning with the address position, into the backswing, onto to the downswing, into impact, to follow through, and completing with the finish position, the golf club is intended to travel on a specific arch. This arch is a result of the biomechanics of the golf swing sequencing properly. In other words, everything working with the correct timing.

Think of the club traveling in a circle during the swing. This imaginary circle is your swing plane and it dissects your back shoulder on the backswing and transition phases of the swing.

Returns to the same position as you started at impact with the ball, and dissects your front shoulder during the follow through into the finish position.

If the golfer maintains the clubhead on this path during the swing this is an indication that the mechanics of the swing are being performed properly.

What does a balanced finishing position have to do with the swing plane?

A balanced finishing position is yet another indicator that, number one, the golf club is following the correct swing plane, and number two, the golfer is performing the mechanics of the swing in the correct sequencing with proper timing.

Secondly, the finish position is directly related to what is referred to as “feeling” the clubhead.

Ask any Tour player they will tell you that they can “feel” the clubhead at any moment during the swing.

Completing the swing in a balanced finish position requires you to be “tension” free and feeling the club head through the entire swing.

Now the bigger question is, how does the amateur golfer get to a balance finish position?

Easier said than done. To develop “feel” in the swing, maintain the proper swing path, and develop a balanced finish position requires mastering three principles.

Principle number one is proper swing mechanics. In order to develop “feel” and correct swing path requires the golfer to develop the correct mechanics of the swing.

Not only do you need to learn the different fundamentals of the swing, you need to train yourself to put these fundamental in proper sequence.

Principle number two is the body. The body swings the club. Your body must have the flexibility, balance capabilities, strength, endurance, and power to perform the mechanics of the swing.

If the body is unable to take the club on the proper swing plane because of a lack of flexibility or lacks the power to develop clubhead speed. The ability to maintain a proper swing path, and finish in a balanced position will be compromised.

Principle number three is practice. In order to develop the proper swing plane, create “feel” for the club, master the mechanics of the swing, and develop a body to support the swing, you must practice the swing and train the body. Over time this will result in the development of components of a proper golf swing.

The amateur will often leave out one of the three principles. If the golfer does not practice, train the body, or develop swing mechanics, it is unlikely ou will keep the clubhead on the correct swing plane.

Bottom line, a balanced finish position is a very good indicator that particular swing was efficient. It also should tell you that your body is flexible, strong, and powerful.

Golf’s Indomitable Foursome: The Greatest to Ever Pick Up the Sticks Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Golf fanatics looking for a conversation to have while having a beer will often converse about the supreme golf athletes of their respective time frames. The game of golfing is altered in every epoch. The golf athletes have gotten more muscular, and even more importantly, the gear has gotten much better. Now, wholesale golf clubs are great examples of craftsmanship, gaining distance and accuracy to anyone’s competition.

Our selection for the 1st time frame is Bobby Jones, the finest amateur golfer to ever swing the irons. In 1930, Jones won the Grand Slam overcoming all amateurs and professionals. Consider thatexploit. In England, he had both the British Amateur Championship and the British Open. Golf’s Grand Gentleman won thirteen majors and quit competitive golf attwenty-eight. Others like the tremendous competitor Byron Nelson were palmary during this time frame, but we’d put our cash on Hogan in an 18-hole playoff any time.

Our selection for the next epoch is fantastic ball-striker Ben Hogan. He captured an glorious sixty-three tournaments from the late 30’s to late 50’s, despite losing time to WWII and a near-fatal accident. A clever competitor, Hogan epitomized determination and his ability to hit fantastic shots from anywhere on the tees. He spent hours improving the golf swing, and produced one of the most super swings ever found on the links! Golf clubs wholesalers have been selling clubs designed by Hogan for years.

Arnold Palmer heads the poll for the third great golfer. The man at the front of Arnie’s Army used his unorthodox swing to conquere a great deal of championships, and the hearts of the normal golf athlete in the process. Golf athleteS headed out to purchase wholesale golf clubs and learn the game after watching Palmer play. In one of golf’s greatest comebacks, Palmer emergedfrom seven strokes back in the last round to win the 1960 U.S. Open. The crowd yelled him to victory. He won 7 majors among his sixty tour victories, obtaining the golf title “the King.” Palmer beats Nicklaus in our list, but we admit it’s a sentimental pick.

The Master of the current game is a difficult selection. Actually, it’s not. Only a stupid idiot would not choose Tiger Woods. He is on pace to smash all the golf records, and now his clubs are popular items with golf club wholesalers, too. We hope they’ll help us swing like him!

Finding Cheap Golf Clubs Friday, January 29th, 2010

If you want to find the best discounts on golf equipment, then you probably already know that the best deals aren’t very easy to find. Golf equipment is always very expensive and can sometimes be absolutely ridiculous. If you know where to look and how to scout out the best deals, however, buying equipment for golfing doesn’t always have to break the bank account. Read on to find out about how the best bargain shopper would go about choosing some new golf clubs for a bargain price.

Every golfer needs his own set of decent golf clubs, which are always readily available at retail and specialty stores. Whether you are looking to shop online or in a brick and mortar store, the same rules apply to finding a good deal. Everyone is advertising their price to be the best, and it can sometimes be difficult to know which one really is the bargain and which advertisement is simply claiming a sale when it is their normal price all along. The best way to learn the answer is to simply shop around and compare the rates of several different stores.

First and foremost, the newspaper is a great resource for finding people who want to unload clubs. They might have specific details, or it may be a vague yard sale ad with the mention of clubs tacked on. You will be able to find many different leads in the paper, and you should follow up on all of them in hopes of finding someone to buy clubs from. You can also head out yard-saling on days that are popular for that kind of thing. Even if they don’t have any specific advertisements for them, you may find some nice clubs. The same goes for flea markets, where you are just as likely to find some very nice clubs as you are to find junk.

You will also want to look for golf clubs at clearance or closeout sales. This could either be at a local brick and mortar store or golf club store. As the primary golfing season draws near an end, retailers offer amazingly deep discounts on all of the sports equipment. The winter months aren’t really perfect golfing conditions, so plan your bargain shopping accordingly and you will be able to find the best deals. You may not be able to use the clubs until spring, but at least you will have them. As long as you are patient enough in finding a good deal, you can wait until next season to enjoy your cheap clubs.

You may not be able to find any deals in stores, but you should consider a quick visit to your nearest golf course. Enquire as to if they have any secondhand golf equipment for sale. In order to make equipment sales, golf courses have to keep the newest and most sought after clubs available for their customers. Therefore, they often have to unload their clubs with earlier model numbers, and this could mean huge cash savings for you if you ask at the right time (right before a new season of golf is about to start). Whatever you do to track down some nice clubs, just be sure to enjoy your new clubs and be safe out on the golf course.

Golfing Tips for Beginners Friday, January 29th, 2010

Golf can start an afternoon hobby and turn into a real passion as you get more involved with it. Learning how to play golf is not difficult and going through all the initial steps is actually fun and rewarding. Here are a few golfing tips that will help you start of on the right foot and turn into a real golfer:

Don’t go for the shiniest, most expensive set of golf clubs. As a beginner you will miss a lot of the subtleties of professional golf equipment, so it’s not worth spending thousands on the latest technology and golf club models. Start with a cheaper set of clubs, maybe even a used one.
A good golf set would have a putter, two woods and five irons. The irons are usually the odd numbers, such as 3, 5, 7 and 9 plus a wedge. If you want to experience different club types without actually purchasing them you can always rent a set from the golf course. As in most cases, beginners play their first golf rounds with a more experienced friend so you could always borrow some clubs from them.

Golf coaches are a better alternative than friends when it comes to teaching you how to properly play golf. However, if you are just starting golf for the fun of the game, a friend might be a good tutor initially. The only problem with friends teaching you how to golf is that they do not have the necessary skills to explain all the complexities of the movements, swings and strategies. A golf coach is experienced in giving you complicated terms in plain English.
You can sign up for golf lessons at most golf courses, and this is a good investment if you have a competitive nature and a few friends that doubt your golfing skills. While costs can vary from one extreme to the other per hour, you can also get a group booking that will save you some money.

Learning Golf from an instructor would be ideal because he is the one who will not only teach you ABCs of the game but will take you to the next levels one by one.

1.The Instructor should be able to chalk out a personal plan and then he should ensure that the plan works as planned and desired.

2.Swing, which is natural and is difficult to change. Due emphasis must be given to swing. It is for the instructor to improve your swing. The instructor should be knowledgeable enough to explain the fundamentals leading to swing.

3.The instructor must ensure that your game improves everyday. There is a saying that You’ll get worse before you get better! but you and your instructor should try to prove it wrong.

4.The instructor must behave like a friend; he should encourage you for a good shot and should correct it if there is something wrong or not-so-good shot.

5.The instructor must have the habit of less talking and more teaching. He should always focus on the training, similarly as a learner one should also follow it but aim at learning only.

6.The instructor is like a life partner as far as the Golf is concerned, he is always there to help, guide and support you.

That is why Learning Golf is not as easy as any other sport. One has to put all necessary efforts to learn and become a good player. Once you have the basic notions about golf it is time to make the most out of this game. Ambition and determination are great when developing your golf skills, but do not let these reduce the enjoyment levels of the game.

The Beginners Golf Course Guide Friday, January 29th, 2010

At one time, courses were only really categorized as private or public

Private courses
Are for members only. Visitors may play on payment of a Green Fee. Costs of the green fee vary considerably depending on time courses often have twilight rates after a certain time of the day frequently there are Winter rates between certain months of the year. The rate will also vary depending on whether the visitor is introduced by a member or not.

Many courses will not allow visitors at the weekend (unless introduced). Some courses do not allow visitors at all, unless they are introduced, but these are a small minority. If in doubt about whether you will be able to play on arrival at a course, or whether the cost of a round falls within your price structure, give the Club Secretary or Professional a call beforehand. In the vast majority of cases you will receive friendly advice, and occasionally some cost benefit!

Most private courses are very welcoming to visitors (they need the green fee income!) Some may require sight of a handicap certificate. Please ensure that your game is at an acceptable level before venturing on to a full golf course. Even more important is a knowledge of the etiquette of the game, especially in knowing when to let a following group play through if you are holding them up.

Lots of clubs have a second course sometimes 9 holes, sometimes all par 3 holes. These are often called a ‘blue’ course. Most private golf clubs operate on the principle of an annual subscription for membership. These are often very much more reasonable than people are led to believe especially if you consider the amount of time you can spend enjoying the club’s facilities. What can be expensive and off putting to the would-be member is the entrance fee, which combined with the subs can often double the cost of your golf in the first year. Many clubs, except for the prestige locations have now waived the entrance fee in a bid to attract new members. If you want to know, speak to a member of the club, or pick up the phone to the Secretary.

Public courses
Sometimes municipal if the course was built or came under the control of the local authority normally do not have a membership, and all players pay a green fee to play. Many of these do not have a tee time booking system, but operate on a first come basis.
It should be mentioned here that there are some superb public courses, and particularly in Scotland, but also true elsewhere, some of the municipals are championship standard.

Nowadays, there is a huge range of different types of membership between the traditional types mentioned above. One frequently used expression is pay’n'play. At these, there are members who pay a subscription, normally lower than at private member clubs, but who then pay an additional fee each time they play. In the UK, the point is being reached where more people are playing golf on this basis than any other. And it can be a cost effective way of playing golf particularly if you do not envisage playing many times in the course of a year.

Golf Vacation For Golf Lovers Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

If you love golf, a golf vacation might be something that you like to do on a regular basis. For the avid golfer, the thought of going on vacation where you do nothing but golf is the idea of heaven. Here are a few things to consider before you take your next golf vacation.

First, it’s always good to go on vacation with people who share your love of golf. Most often a golf vacation turns into a buddy trip, but there’s really nothing wrong with that. But make sure that you pick a destination that everyone can agree on. Take a vote if you must, but be sure everyone wants to go to the same place and that everyone can afford it.

You will also want to take into consideration everyone’s playing abilities when you plan a golf vacation. Someone with a 3 handicap will enjoy a challenging course while a person with a 13 handicap will likely just get frustrated and mad on the same course.

As a general rule when planning a golf vacation, you should consider the courses first and the accommodations next. Resorts, especially those with quality golf courses, are expensive. But all in all, if golf is a main purpose or highlight of your trip, decide where you want to play first, and then decide on accommodations. You can take a golf vacation where you stay at a hotel to gain access to a course and then move to a less expensive hotel later. It’s an inconvenience to have to repack and move during the trip, but can be well worth it in order to play top courses while not spending the entire vacation at posh resort prices.

Even if you are staying at a resort hotel which gives you access to its courses, find out how far ahead of your arrival date you can book tee times. All courses have specific rules for when they will make tee times, which you should take note of and follow carefully. Some courses even have specific times you must call to reserve your time (e.g., between 7 and 9 a.m. on the Thursday eight days before the weekend you wish to play), though most guidelines are usually more general (e.g., a week before you wish to play or up to sixty days ahead). You should book as far as ahead as possible, especially for high demand courses. Even as a resort guest, if the course is popular, you may be out of luck if you wait until a few days before arrival or check-in time to get a tee time Once you’ve embarked on your golf vacation and are ready to play the courses you’ve chosen, don’t just jump right in with the excitement that we know you feel. You must take time to get a feel for the course and stretch properly. Arrive at the course well before your tee time to avoid feeling rushed and look around. Check out the scorecard to see the layout of the course and perhaps talk to the course pro to see if he or she has any advice for you.

A golf vacation is a great way for the golfer to enjoy some of the best courses our country has to offer. So plan carefully and then get out there and have some fun.

“The Majors” of Professional Golf Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

The Masters Tournament, the U.S. Open, the Open Championship, and the PGA Championship are the four most prestigious, most competitive, most challenging, and most rewarding championships in professional golf and are often simply referred to as “the majors”.

The Masters Tournament is scheduled for the first full week in April and is the first of the four major tournaments. The Masters is held at the same location each year, at Augusta National Golf Club, a private golf club located in the city of Augusta, Georgia. It is an invitational event, which means that the number of players is smaller than those of the other major championships. Entry into the event is controlled by the Augusta National Golf Club. Each year a green jacket is awarded to the winner of the Masters Tournament and it must be returned to the club house a year later. Angel Cabrera is the champion of the 2009 Masters Tournament.

The second tournament is the U.S. Open Championship and is held in mid-June. Given that there are no weather delays, the final round is scheduled to be played on Father’s Day, the third Sunday in June. It is held at a different course each year, chosen specifically so scoring is difficult and emphasis placed on accurate driving. The course chosen for the Open are quite long and have open rough and hilly greens. The 2009 U.S. Open was held June 15-21 at Bethpage State Park on the Black Course in Farmingdale, New York. This years champion is Lucas Glover.

Third of the tournaments is the Open Championship, often referred to as the British Open, and is the oldest of the four major championships. It is held on the weekend of the third Friday in July. It is held on one of nine historic courses in Scotland or England. The Open features a four hole playoff for all golfers tied at the end of regulation play. The prize money for the Open was historically the least, yet since 2002 it has actually been the highest. The 2009 Open will be held July 16-19 at the Ailsa course at Turnberry in England.

Last but not least, the fourth and final championship is the PGA Championship. The last of the series, it has been nicknames “Glory’s Last Shot”. Winning the PGA gives a golfer privileges that greatly improve and secure your career, like automatically being invited to play in the other three major championships for the next five years and being exempt from qualifying for the PGA Championship for life. The purse for winning the 2008 event was $7.5 million. The 2009 PGA Championship will be held August 10-16 at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
