Guaranteed Basic Golf Swing Tips To Improve Your Game! Monday, January 11th, 2010

I can remember the first time I ventured out onto a golf course and tried to hit the cover off the ball on the first tee. My memory of that inauspicious debut was a skewed shot which disappeared into the bushes to the right and became just another lost ball statistic. My basic golf swing technique for starters was crappy but more importantly, I didn’t really understand the mechanics of the golf swing.

The end result of that very first game was a large triple figure score and about fifteen golf balls which never saw the light of day again. Oh, I can laugh about it now but if you want to know what epitomised embarrassment I’m here to tell you it was yours truly on that fateful day.

Can you as a novice draw similar comparisons? Well, if you haven’t mastered the basic golf swing yet and you plan on improving your driving, chipping and putting then read the rest of this article.

Physics And The Basic Golf Swing

Before you can even think about using brute strength in you swing you need to understand golf isn’t really a game about power. It’s more timing and that’s why it’s a good idea to examine your clubs closely. Notice how each one is designed just a little differently than the other. The three iron has a more flatter blade than the nine iron. The three iron is designed for hitting the ball longer distances while the nine iron is designed for more up and under.

Getting into the habit of using the appropriate club for the appropriate play will get you forming good basic golf swing habits. It’s a similar story with the driving woods. In most cases, you’ll have a selection to choose from. I have four and my favorite is the fairway wood. It’s designed to be used as the follow up to the tee shot on a long range hole and used correctly, is very effective in getting a clean, crisp shot away without forcing the shot with unnecessary power.

Golf Exercise

Believe it or not, one of the keys to maintaining a good basic golf swing is fitness, or being golf fit if you like. Identifying your golfing muscles is important and if you are not sure, ask an experienced golfer. No, it doesn’t mean you need to spend five days in a gym building up to Mr. Universe levels. Simple golf stretch exercises; some involving use of a club and others just basic body stretches. You’ll be surprised how effective muscle conditioning will help your basic golf swing movement.

Enlisting the services of a short term coach is a great way to learn the basic skills. It’s like building a house; get the foundation right and you have something to build on. A coach will quickly pin point your problem areas and address them quickly. Ask at your favorite clubhouse the next time you’re there.

The basic golf swing in many ways is like a player’s “holy grail.” Once it’s mastered, you can then plan for bigger and better things, including the odd power drive off the tee!

Golf Putting Tips From the Professionals Friday, November 27th, 2009

The best way to make quick improvement from your putting is to spend more time working on your distance control. Why is this? The majority of your approach shots will most likely end up leaving you a medium to long range distance putt from the flagstick.

To get you started here are some very simple and useful tips:

Align Your Feet, Shoulders And Your Head Perfectly Parallel To Your Putting Line

It sounds obvious enough, but it’s amazing how many golfers I see that don’t do this. Start by aiming your putter face at the target then align your head, feet and shoulders to that line. This is the best method of getting an accurate perspective of the right line to the hole. If you are having any trouble of viewing the correct pathway to the hole with your eyes, then this is undoubtedly caused by an inaccurate view.

Golf Putting Technique Isn’t Everything – Just Putt The Ball

It’s not about looking good on the putting green, it’s about getting the job done. That’s one of the best golf putting tips going around. When it comes to putting, the end result will always far outweigh how the putting stroke looks. Ask any tour professional and they will tell you the same thing.

Take Just One Look At Your Target Line and Just Swing!

One of the most important changes I made which produced some of my best results on the putting greens, was to minimize the amount of time I stood over the ball analyzing and thinking about the putt. In fact this was one of the single most important changes I made that helped me take over 6 strokes off my putts per round.

It’s important to still maintain your focus, while speeding up the process a fraction. If you spend too much time thinking about your golf putting technique, length of stroke, and ground conditions will cause you fear. Instead, get yourself set up over the ball, take one quick look at your target, hold that image in your head, and simply swing the putter blade. You’ll be amazed at how many more putts you will hole in your next round.

Find The Sweet Spot Of The Putting Blade, And Use It

Another key to making consistent putts is to strike the ball from the sweet spot on your putter. Having trouble finding the sweet spot? Just hold the club vertically in between your thumb and index finger. Make sure you are holding the putter directly in front of your eyes.

Now tap on the putter clubface with something small and firm, like a pen or a golf tee. Every time you hit the clubface and the putter head twists, this is not the sweet spot. Continue hitting the putter face until it moves straight back. This is the sweet spot. Target it every time. If this seems too complex then the good news is most new putters today are designed with a painted on target/sweet spot that you can’t miss. One of the seemingly most obvious golf putting tips but one that will definitely help your putting.

Improving Your Golf Game Friday, November 13th, 2009

Improve your golf game right now you say? I say, absolutely! Don’t waste another dime on new golf equipment: taking one more lesson or hitting one more ball at the range, until you finish reading this article.

You see it’s not what you think that’s not allowing you to improve your golf game.

It’s something very simple and easy to remedy. It’s YOU! How your body moves throughout your golf swing.

Let me ask you, do you feel nice and loose, relaxed and fluid when you swing a club on the golf course? Do you feel like your backswing is what it should be? How about your distance off the tee? Are you happy with it?

Now let me ask. What have you done to improve the above situation? And has it worked up to now? If it has – congratulations! I am very happy to hear that another golfer is improving.

If it isn’t working, don’t you think you should try a different approach? One that makes total sense from a mechanical (technique) standpoint.

If you’ve tried all the above, there’s only one thing left. As I said above. YOU!

Your body is what swings the club and produces the end-result. Not the equipment, balls or all the lessons you take.

You’ve got to start with the engine (your body) first, to be able to make a mechanically sound and repeatable swing for 18 holes of golf.

Your body has physical limitations. All of ours does. Each person is unique, and has a different set of physical issues that need to be addressed. But when they are, look out! The game gets much easier and a whole lot funner.

With our country getter bigger (heavier) by the day, this is a great reason to embark on a golf training program that will not only improve your golf game, but help you achieve your health goals also. Now isn’t that reason enough to get started right away?

You will be amazed at your fast rate of golf improvement once you take this approach. You will be making swings and producing power you’ve never seen before. Why? Because you are eliminating your physical limitations that have kept you from achieving the golf swing you know you are capable of.

The jury is out! All the pros are doing it. You’ve got to be next!

It’s time to improve your golf game once and for all!

Other Handy Golf Tips:
1. Source any natural dietary supplements which will help to keep you fit and healthy and keep your body in good shape to play golf.
2. Develop complete confidence in yourself and your game – need to be tough-minded and totally focused when you play golf.
3. Learn all known golf bets so that you can bet to your advantage and apply psychological pressure on your opponents at opportune moments.
