The Equation For Junior Golf Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Junior golf + beginners + equipment = quite the equation for sports fanatics. In order to correctly supply an answer and conclusion for the above problem, it is very important to identify each of the individual portions of the equation. This will allow us to understand the essential pieces of each factor, which will help youths to understand the game and their roles within the sport to a more effective and efficient degree. It is very important for youths that are just getting into the sport of golf to be aware of the many ways in which these components interact. As with any other sport, there will be a necessary period of adjustment.

There are very few people who can go out into the world, pick up a sport for the first time and excel at it. Instead, sports typically require an individual to learn about the sport and examine it from different angles before they can excel at the sport. In the equation junior golf + beginners + equipment, we have learned that sometimes beginners are children. There are some sports that will be easier for individuals to learn as children, and others as adults. Golf can go either way, but in this instance the focus will be on the youths and children, because this is what junior golf refers to.

Beginners are those who are not necessarily familiar with a sport or activity, and those who will need to learn more about it, when we look at the junior golf + beginners + equipment equation. After establishing that the individual is a youth, we can observe that since they are also a beginner, they are probably not aware of very much in the game. By finding the simplest terms to explain to a child, parents are able to approach the topic of golf with their children. It will be necessary to explain the use of the clubs and the point of the game that the youth would be taking up. This leads into the final component of the junior golf + beginners + equipment theory. Equipment should be purchased after the child has been briefed on what golf is all about.

In many instances, children will be very excited to take up a new activity, but it is important to establish this prior to spending the money on the golf equipment. This is because a parent will not want to spend money on an item and then return it later because their child is not interested in the sport. In addition, it can be beneficial to have the youth on hand when shopping for their equipment begins, and this is because they can provide insight into which clubs they like best and which they are most comfortable using. For many parents, this is helpful because they want to be reassured that the items that are picked out will be used by the child, and in many instances aesthetics can play into that. When it comes to looking at junior golf + beginners + equipment, it is necessary that individuals examine all components in order to ensure that the child will be prepared for the game, and as successful as they can be at the start of their inclusion into the world of golf.

Balance and the Golf Swing Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

When’s the last time you practiced standing on one foot and holding your balance? Probably never. Yet it’s a key ingredient in our daily lives and that includes playing golf.

Balance is one of those things that we pretty much take for granted. Not many of us think about it, nor practice it, even though it can keep us from seriously injuring ourselves and help us perform daily tasks better. How many times have you heard of someone – who was in pretty good shape – fall and break something, and was never really the same again? For this reason alone, balance is gaining more press these days, and should be practiced on a regular basis.

Better balance can also impact your performance on the golf course. Almost every aspect of the game is dependent on the golfer’s ability to maintain good balance while in various positions, and often while explosively swinging a golf club.

Whether it’s the longer yardage shots, off the tee and in the fairway, or those finesse ones from 100 yards in or around the green, body control is a must. Altering the stance to accommodate for the type of shot will help the golfer swing the club smoothly and efficiently, resulting in the desired outcome.

For many this is a tough enough task on level ground, but often times these array of golf shots have to be accomplished from uneven lies such as uphill and downhill, or when the ball’s above or below your feet. This demands even a greater need for swing stability as both ground and gravitational forces impact an additional set of circumstances to the golfer, which he now needs to compensate for.

Throw in a little wind, one foot in the bunker, and/or a little fatigue on the back nine and that changes the affect on the body. That’s the beauty or frustration about golf, you really never have the same shot twice. There’s always something different requiring you to alter something to make the shot, and in every situation, stabilization or balance plays a part.

Age may have something to do with lack of balance, but I’ve seen a lot of young players have trouble with the simplest of balance assessments. Yes, there are physiological changes that occur as we age that will impact balance, but for the most part, we can prevent that from occurring.

Lower body strength, for example, plays a key role in balance. Improving strength and coordination in all three planes of movement, side-to-side, front-to-back, and rotationally, can enhance balance. A good start is with the quadriceps (front thigh), glutes (buttocks), calves, and abductors and adductors (inner and outer thigh). These will also help you better control the lower body during the golf swing .

Practicing balance is also something that you can do to improve balance. Get into your golf stance (as if you were standing at address over the ball, but with your hands folded across your chest instead of out in front of you) and then shift the weight over to one foot while you lift the other foot off the ground. Work up to a solid 10 seconds on each foot without losing your balance. It’ll take time, be patient and it will get better. If you have extreme difficulty with this, you may want to check with your physician, as there are other factors that can influence balance.

Once this is accomplished, to make the exercise more golf specific, as golf is not a static sport, balance on one foot and then slowly rotate your shoulders back and forth as if swinging a golf club. Practice that till you can do 5 to 10 rotations to each side, and with each leg, without losing your balance.

Don’t take balance for granted. Take steps to improve your balance and you’ll improve not only the quality of life, but the quality of your golf game as well.

Golf Games Saturday, December 19th, 2009

If you love golf, you probably like to play as often as you can. Getting to the golf course is not always easy, due to time restraints and other obligations. That doesn’t mean you don’t have time to play some golf games when you can’t hit the course. A lot of families like to golf together, and this is often very expensive. There are golf games you can play on your home gaming system, and also some golf games you can do in your own back yard. Not only will you be spending quality time together, you can also increase your skill.

Because my husband loves to play golf, my daughter has developed an interest in golf. I don’t mind playing, but I can’t watch it on television. Once I start watching, I’m off for a nap. It never fails. Those two, however, can sit there together and watch it for hours. They have also made up a few of their own golf games to play in the back yard. It’s always been something special they share, and has helped both of them play better. Granted, my daughter isn’t a master golfer, but she’s getting the hang of things rather quickly.

One of the golf games they play is rather simple, but they always have fun doing it. They set up stakes in the yard, and then practice putting. The best putts roll to rest up against the stake, much like you would aim for the hole in a regular game of golf. While this doesn’t seem like much, it has surprised me how much better my daughter does when we play miniature golf. This also helps my husband from losing his patience, because it is just a game in the back yard, and no one is keeping score.

You can make up your own golf games like this one, and as long as you aren’t driving the ball through your neighbor’s windows, you should have hours of fun playing with your family, and improving your skills. You can also find back yard golf games that are ready made. Some you can use to practice your swing by hitting a ball connected to something. No matter how hard to swing, the ball won’t go too far and cause any damage.
On rainy days, you can always fire up the gaming system and play against the big boys. Though my daughter isn’t very good at this, she loves to watch my husband play, and often cheers him on. Not only are they having fun together playing golf games, I’m getting some time to myself.

Golfers Mind – Where You Put Your Focus Increases The Likely-Hood Of It Occurring, Good Or Bad Thursday, December 10th, 2009

It’s true that what we focus on with our thoughts we get more of. That’s why people who think they are unlucky can’t understand why they keep getting more of it. They are so focussed on these negative events they create the circumstances that make the likelihood of them happening even more.

You could also go down the universal law of attraction theory if you prefer, but if you believe in that then I don’t need to convince you that you get what you think about.

You are going to be on the golf course the way you are off it. Is the glass half full or half empty for you in life in general? You do need to be entirely honest with yourself here because if you think you may be more negatively oriented (glass half empty) then you are going to be more negatively oriented in your thoughts around the golf course.

Lets take an example:

Ball comes to rest in the middle of the fairway, BUT, in an old divot.

Glass half empty. “Oh man what kind of luck is this? (bad) I don’t deserve this, it’s unfair! Now I’ve got a really tough shot that will probably go horrible wrong, and I won’t get to the green now!”

Glass half full. “Well, you just have to love this game! Oh well, this is the way it is and there is no reason why I can’t play a great shot from here. I will just focus on hitting positively down on the ball after I go through my usual routine and then I am going to feel really great when I play a great shot from this position. I love these challenging shots!”

Who do you want to back to pull this shot off? Do you think that the glass half empty golfer is going to play the shot confidently and be holding positive images and feelings of a good shot? Most definitely not.

For the glass half full golfer, the shot is pretty much doomed and the chances of it being bad are greatly enhanced by internal imaging and attitude. When the shot does go wrong this will be used as “proof” of how unjust everything is and how unlucky this golfer is.

The glass half full golfer will be making positive internal representations of the shot he/she wants, greatly enhancing the chances of success. In addition the golfer will be in a confident and happily challenged frame of mind further enhancing the chances of success. When the shot is good their confidence in their own ability to play challenging situations will increase.

On the other hand if the shot is poor then the glass half full person is still going to win because they were faced with a tricky situation and they had the right attitude. They accept that golf is all it’s parts including the bad bounces, old divots and a spike mark or two. They can walk away without their self esteem being battered. The event does not reinforce how “Unlucky” they are unlike the glass half empty person.

Discover who you are more prone to be and if you are glass half empty, resolve to become a positive glass FULL person. It will not only make a difference in your golf but your life too.

Simple Techniques That Will Shave Strokes Off Your Game And Improve Your Golf Swing Monday, December 7th, 2009

As an amateur golfer you’ll get plenty of advice on improving your golf swing; some of it good and some of it not so good. It never fails to amaze me the number of times a golfer will seek advice on a particular area but not practice the new technique. Practice is the key to improving your golf swing. Let’s explore some areas of your game that could need some tuning up.

The Thumb Theory

Maintaining a correct grip on the club during the back swing is vital. It’s not just the initial grip on the club that’s important; keeping your thumb pointing towards the heavens at the half way mark of the swing is essential. Imagine this in your mind before playing the shot and memorize it. As the club comes back at the midway point of the swing, the thumb, which initially points towards the ground, should be pointing towards the sky before you come down and follow through with the swing.

Easy Does It!

Never be in a rush when playing your shot. Improving your golf swing is all about controlling the movement of the club. Sure you can hit the ball with plenty of power but this doesn’t mean you need to swing as hard and fast as you can. Getting the rhythm right takes a little practice and an effective method for keeping this rhythm in check is to pause slightly at the completion of the upswing before completing the downswing motion. Many golfers will actually do a short count in their minds for no more than a second. This method has the effect of tempering the urge to swing to quickly.

Getting The Rhythm Right

Completing a smooth swing comes naturally to some golfers but for most of us, practicing is the only way we can get this part of the game right. Have you ever felt off balance when going through with the swing motion. I know I have. The left knee leans towards the right, the shoulders seem to be out of alignment and the hip sways in an unnatural fashion. What do you do to correct it? Golf can produce some unconventional remedies for bad posture and one method taught to me was to place a large ball in between the knees during my back swing practice. It looked ungainly but it got the desired result I was after!

Respect Your Golf Club

The golf club is an amazing piece of equipment. The thought and planning that goes into producing a club, whether an iron or a driver, is quite staggering. What many golfers fail to realise is that clubs are designed a particular way for a reason. Letting the club do what it was designed for is just so important. Basically all you need to do is provide the club with the correct swinging procedure and it will do the rest. I know it sounds easier said than done but one thing to stress is “don’t try and re-invent the wheel.” Become one with the club and you should see a steady improvent in your game.

Improving your golf swing is about practicing the correct technique. Not just once or twice and forget it but until you have it committed to natural memory so it becomes simple instinct every time you step out to the tee.

Is Your Golf Up To Scratch? – Part 2 Monday, December 7th, 2009

Let’s see how we can apply this technique throughout your game. OK, you’re standing on the first tee, choosing your line and there’s a persistent thought of “don’t hook it into the trees”. What usually happens when you’re thinking this? Yes…golf balls always do what they are told; you are thinking about hooking into the trees and you do exactly that. Yes, I know, I can hear you saying “BUT I thought DON’T hook into the trees”. Your inner mind does not pay any attention to the “don’ts” of this world.

Whatever you are thinking about you are giving energy to, and energy is transmitted out into the atmosphere and attracts exactly what you are thinking about into your life. This is the law of attraction. Put another way, as you are thinking “Don’t hook it into the trees” you are at the same time inadvertently creating a picture in your mind of the ball going into the trees and also attaching a lot of energy to that picture because you feel a bit agitated about it; and so the ball goes into the trees. In fact, the ball went exactly where you inadvertently planned for it to go. This is how talented your mind is. If you ever doubted the fact that 90% of golf is played in the mind, this phenomenon is undeniable proof!

What can you do to stop this happening? You can recognize that you are thinking about hooking into the trees, create a picture of it intentionally, then move that picture to one side, shrink it, drain the color out, crumple it up and put it in the bin; and then, create a big, bright, clear picture in your mind’s eye of the golf ball landing where you want it to, sitting up nicely on the fairway.

You can also use this technique of “binning the negatives” when you have played a less than perfect shot or missed a putt. Create a picture of it and bin it. Then re-run in your mind’s eye the perfect shot, or the perfect putt. This is a great post-shot routine to adopt, and extremely effective, because your mind will only be recording good golf shots, thereby making the likelihood of great shots more compelling, whilst at the same time literally erasing poor shots from your mind. Thus your golfing confidence builds more quickly and easily than ever, and as the title of Dr Bob Rotella’s book states “Golf is a game of confidence”.

Getting back to your New Golf Season’s resolutions and making them probable instead of possible, you should now have a clear, in-focus, bright and compelling picture of you achieving your golfing goals. This is vitally important because whatever you imagine you can create. The next question to ask is what do you need to do to get to that point? What do you need to do physically and also mentally? From a mental perspective, the consistent application of the “binning the negatives” technique will transform your game, not to mention your life in general. You will be focusing on what you want to happen, rather than what you don’t. You will be aware of choosing where you want the golf ball to go and intentionally sending it there. You will now be in control of your thoughts and their resultant effect on the golf ball.

It’s also worth examining your thought processes whenever a shot doesn’t quite work out. Ask yourself were you thinking clearly and precisely? Did you picture what you wanted? Or was your focus drifting off at a tangent? Or did you simply stand up to the ball and hit it without planning? Or did you stand over the ball for ages with a myriad of thought competing for your attention? I’ll wager a bet that 90% of your “bad” shots are caused by “bad” thoughts. Check this out for yourself. If your own statistics reflect this percentage, then it follows that you have the ability, you have the talent, to hit this percentage of your “bad” shots perfectly simply by being aware of your thoughts and choosing to think clearly. That’s got to be an easier way to get your handicap down than changing your swing, don’t you agree?

Your subconscious mind will always work towards a goal that has been visualized in your mind’s eye. Your energy is being directed towards it, whether that goal is long term (as in your New Golf Season’s Resolution) or short term (your next shot). You have the ability to use your mind to achieve your golfing goals easily and effortlessly. You also have to plan in a physical sense towards your goal; you’re not going to improve without playing, so you have to put the time in as well. You’ll not put time in unless you find that its fun, so make sure that it is fun.

Golf is a game, it’s meant to be enjoyed. You, and nobody else, are the creator of your destiny and the master of your golf game, so long as you choose to be. Finding Golf Equipment For Sale Saturday, December 5th, 2009

When it comes to finding junior golf equipment for sale, there are no shortages of places that a person can turn to in order to find the items that they need. No matter where the individual lives, either in a big city or a remote town, there are always resources available to them in order to enable them to find and acquire the junior golf equipment that they desire. Finding junior golf equipment for sale is only as difficult as the individual makes it. With the correct researching procedures, an individual can drastically cut down on the amount of time and energy that they put into finding the junior golf equipment for sale that they would most like to purchase.

First, it will be important to determine what kind of equipment is needed. Does the equipment need to have been manufactured by a specific company or will any type do? Once a person figures out what they are looking for, they can then determine which kind of condition they would like the item to be in. Typically this means that the individual will either be looking for junior golf equipment for sale in new condition or in like new condition. Equipment that is in used, but in like new condition, can be beneficial because it is cheaper to purchase in most instances. New condition items are often good for people that know what they want and are committed to the game or sport.

After these things are decided upon, an individual can decide where they would like to purchase their equipment from. There are many places that will offer these types of items for youths that are interested. Junior golf equipment for sale can easily be found at the town sporting goods store. If an individual cannot find what they want at a physical store, they can always turn to the internet. This is a great resource for individuals that are looking for new or used items, since there are online auctions and online retail stores that will offer both conditions for equipment. In many case, the junior golf equipment for sale online will also be cheaper because of the competition that is bred between the online community stores. Some other beneficial places to look would be in the newspaper and in other magazines or newsletters that post classified ads. Individuals may be able to find new items in this manner, but more likely than not the junior golf equipment for sale that they find will be used in condition.

Again, this may be beneficial to the individual if they are looking to limit the amount of money that they are going to spend on their golf equipment. The good thing about purchasing equipment from the sporting goods store or from a newspaper classified ad section, which is printed locally, is that the individual will have the opportunity to interact with the equipment in a hands-on forum, which will provide them with the accurate information as to the condition of the item and the way it handles. Sometimes this can be difficult with items that are being purchased online.

Read About Professional Golf Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

As with any other sport golf also does have a professional level. The difference between playing professional golf and amateur golf, however, can be a very fine line. There are a lot of amateur golfers that can score at the professional level, however, they are unable to do it consistently and often miss out on the tournaments that can qualify them to get on the tour.

Nonetheless, it is a dream of many golfers to play professional golf one day and make a living doing something that they truly, truly love. Your office is the course, and your co-workers are people who love the game just as much as you do. You share common interests at the professional level of golf and it can be a very satisfying career. But isn’t that obvious?

Qualifying to play professional golf is another story altogether. The field is very competitive and it can be extremely difficult to break through. Some people try their whole lives to qualify and always come up short. It takes a lot of practice, a lot of dedication, and an ability to take a lot of disappointment to play professional golf, so know what you’re in for!

To get started playing professional golf, you will first have to qualify for “Q School” or Qualifying School. Q Schools are annual qualifying tournament for leading golf tours like the PGA and the LPGA. In Q School, a fixed number of players win membership to the tour for the following season. In professional golf, this is referred to as your “tour card”. You will then be able to play in most of the tour’s events without having to qualify.

Getting through the Q school is very competitive and most professional golfers never achieve it. There can be up to four stages to negotiate each of them like a regular golf tournament with only a small number of players going on to the next state. The final qualifying school may be played over up to six rounds compared with the standard four rounds in a professional golf tournament. However, players who are successful at Q school can reach the elite level of competition very quickly.

You can also qualify to play professional golf in other ways. Finishing near the top of the money list on the tour’s developmental tour, winning a tournament on the tour after qualifying or as a sponsor’s invitee, or winning enough money on multiple events on the tour to meet whatever criteria the tour may lay down for promotion to full membership. This last one was how Tiger Woods gained his first tour card.

Playing professional golf is not an easy career to pursue, but it is a great way to make a living! Persistence, patience, and a great game of golf can all get you on your way to playing professional golf, but be realistic and know that it will take time.

Is Your Golf Up To Scratch? – Part 1 Monday, November 30th, 2009

Once you get mid way through the golfing season it can be interesting to look back and see if your golf is meeting the expectations or hopes which you began your golf year with.

We all have our targets for the year, be it simply enjoying the game more, or playing more, or practicing as well as playing, or getting our handicaps as close to scratch as possible. It’s a bit like making your New Year’s Resolutions, only in this case it’s your New Golf Season’s Resolutions. And rather like New Year’s Resolutions, they can so easily fall by the way side after a couple of weeks, and for some of us, we don’t even get started, we don’t get past “go”.

Most people are really good at planning things at work, organizing work into bite sized chunks and planning when each chunk will be achieved by. Most of us are more comfortable knowing what we need to do and then just getting on with it. As you plan to achieve your goals, they become not only possible to achieve, but highly probable. We don’t, however, tend to take this mindset and apply it to our hobbies. A hobby is a game, isn’t it? You shouldn’t have to work at it, should you?

How much do you want to make your golfing goal probable as opposed to possible? The thing is that if you really want to achieve your golfing dream, you do have to plan for it. Whatever you imagine you can create, and so it’s vital that you can see yourself achieving your golfing goal. Can you see this happening for you; can you really see what you want to see?

Here’s a quick way of double checking that you can REALLY see yourself getting to that elusive goal. This is very quick and easy, so you can do it now.

Sit down somewhere comfortable, close your eyes and create a picture of yourself in your mind’s eye of yourself achieving your goal, really see what you want to see, create this picture in your mind’s eye and notice how you feel as well. I’d like you to look at that picture and become aware of a few things. Firstly, can you see what you want to see? This is the first step; unless you can see what you want, it’s highly unlikely to happen.

As you look at your picture, is this picture right in front of you or is it to one side? If it’s to one side, move it across until it is right in front of you. Make sure that your picture is right in front of you. As you move the picture until it is directly in front of you, make sure that you are seeing what you want to see in every way. As you see yourself in this picture, you should feel a sense of achievement, a feeling of satisfaction, fun and enjoyment. Now, imagine that you are stepping right into the picture, see what you’ll see, feel what you’ll feel, hear what you’ll hear. Really animate your picture and make it big and bright and clear in your mind’s eye.

For those of you who didn’t see what you wanted to see, I recommend the following quick mental exercise, which everyone can do, young or old, positive or negative in outlook.

Close your eyes again and create that picture in your mind’s eye. If you find that you are seeing what you want to see, that’s great, savor it and enjoy it, make it really bright and clear, make sure it’s right in front of you and then step right into your picture and enjoy the feelings associated with it. If, on the other hand, the picture has elements of what you don’t want, what I’d like you to do is to move this picture off to one side, left or right, send it as far to the side that it can go, and then drain the color out of it, and make it go fuzzy and shrink it, and imagine that you can crumple that picture up and literally put it in the bin. Just bin the negatives and create a picture right in front of you of what you do want to experience and achieve in your golf game.

This technique, of “binning the negatives”, is really effective in all areas of your golf game, as well as in all areas of your life. If a thought or picture in your mind’s eye is powerful and productive, keep it there. If it is negative or unproductive, just send it to one side, drain the color out, shrink it, crumple it up and put it in the bin. You will also find that hypnosis downloads can be used to make this exercise both easier and more compelling.

Learn The Secrets For Buying Golf Complete Set! Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

One of the biggest decisions you will ever make as a golfer is the purchase of new golf sets. It is a decision that
should never be taken lightly because if you make even the slightest error in club selection you will see the devastating
consequence in your game very quickly. Just ask any unlucky golfer who has made that error and you will find that it takes
months to get your game back in order. So before you go jumping into a new set, golf experts have some advice about how to
make sure you get the right clubs.

How Many Clubs Do I Need?
The maximum amount of clubs that you may carry in your bag at any one time is 14. This includes your putter.
A standard bag will typically contain a putter, sand wedge, pitching wedge, irons 3 through 9, a five and a three wood (sometimes referred to as a metals or metal woods) and a driver. Then many golfers now incorporate a utility or hybrid wood as
their fourteenth club choice.

Though this is a standard bag these clubs should no way dictate what you should carry in your bag. For example if you are considered a high handicap golfer ( a handicap of more than 25) then you may want to leave the high irons (these are the 3 iron, the 4 iron, and the 5 iron) out of your bag completely and perhaps add one of the low wood golf club sets to your bag. This gives you a few more shots to choose from and they are easier clubs to hit more accurately for
high handicappers.

Does the Type of Shaft I Choose Matter?
Yes, the shaft on your clubs does matter. So there are some things you should consider before you choose your set. Golf experts
suggest that all golfers have their swing speed test at a proper facility. This will tell you the exact type of flex you need
to get the most out of your swing and your new golf clubs. Generally speaking there are five types of flexes available, extra
stiff, stiff, regular, senior and ladies.

Once you have your correct shaft flex you will then need to decide whether to use a steel or graphite shaft for your golf sets. Golf
clubs can have either type and it is really a matter of preference. Many choose to go with graphite because they feel there
is more flex in the shaft and it may ultimately get their ball to go further. Some, however, prefer steel because they feel they
can control the club head better. The only real important thing when choosing the type of shaft is that you have the same shaft on
the complete golf club sets.

Tip # 3 What Type of Money Are We Talking About?
When budgeting your money on golf club sets you should expect to pay at least $750 and possibly as much as $1700 on complete sets.
Golf is a game that you can expect to play for years to come. So take these tips and go ahead and make the necessary investment
on a complete set of golf clubs.

What Golf Ball Is Right For Me Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Maybe using the same type golf balls as the PGA golf pros will improve your game…and maybe it won’t. You need to choose the golf ball that’s right for your own game. Choosing the wrong kind of golf ball can be a bigger handicap to your game than starting at the 19th hole. Choosing the right kind of golf ball can have you feeling like a Tiger, even if you don’t quite have his handicap.

Golf balls come in three styles: 2-piece, 3-piece, and high performance. 2-piece golf balls are designed for improving your distance, while 3-piece and high performance golf balls can typically help with accuracy.

The 2-piece golf balls are especially good if you’re just starting out or if you’ve played just enough to know you really want to give this sport a try. They’re also terrific for high handicap golfers who have been around a while. Hey, we can’t all be pros! These are the most common type on the market and usually less expensive than 3-piece balls. Best of all, the large rubber core provides faster speed off the tee for those of you with a slow swing. In turn, that gives you greater distance.

It could happen that the first time you played, everyone was astounded at the way you slammed that little white ball with the power of a major league batter aiming for a grand slam. But that’s doubtful. Distance is usually developed over time as you develop your swing and find the groove. When you are just beginning, chances are you need to improve your accuracy more than your distance. Once you’ve developed your accuracy, then is the time to choose a golf ball and clubs that will help improve your distance.

If you haven’t developed consistent accuracy ? that is, having the ball consistently land in the same “general” area each time ? then the 3-piece golf ball probably isn’t right for you. It’s just not as forgiving of miss-hits as the 2-piece golf ball. The same goes for high performance balls. They’re pretty much designed for advanced golfers…and their price bears this out!

One factor to always be considered is cost. Simple, standard 2-piece golf balls usually come in 18-packs and are relatively inexpensive. The cost of golf balls may seem small in comparison to the overall cost of pursuing the sport but the inexperienced golfer can go through a lot of golf balls in a very short space of time!

The key, as with most golf equipment, is to choose the right kind of golf ball for your level of play. Consider your swing and your game, and then choose the ball that will help eliminate your weaknesses and build upon your strengths.

How to Get the Most Distance Out of Your Golf Driver Friday, November 6th, 2009

Golf is a complex game that takes practice, discipline and precision. If you are new to golf, there are several aspects of the game that should be focused on initially. Putting is one such aspect, and, although golf beginners might be new to an 18 hole course, or even the driving range, they probably have experience putting on miniature golf courses. Hitting golf balls with a driver however, is a completely different story.

A golf swing, for many individuals, is a lifelong project, one that takes intense dedication and focus, but the fruits of this effort will be evident by improved performance on the course. The longer and straighter your drives are, the fewer strokes it will take to reach the pin. It is for this reason that practicing your golf swing to get the most distance out of your driver is a crucial aspect of the game that, along with putting, should be focused on initially.

How to Shop for Golf Lessons Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Imagine the next time you join a discussion about how to shop for golf lessons. When you start sharing the fascinating golf lessons facts below, your friends will be absolutely amazed.

Before, it has been acclaimed as a game for those who can afford to buy the equipment needed. But as time goes by, golf has gradually gained mass recognition, as it becomes an affordable sport.

However, golf lessons remain to be very expensive. That’s why it is important to take into considerations the different factors that need to be mulled over before obtaining golf lessons.

Therefore, for those who would like to know how to shop for golf lessons in the market, here is a list of some tips that can be used:

1. Budget

Before a Tiger Wood wannabe enrolls into some golf lessons, he or she must first learn how to stick to the budget.

Golf lessons’ prices may vary and there are instances where other institutions price their golf lessons really high. So it’s better for a beginner to conform to his budget so that he will not be compelled to take the best and the most expensive golf lessons.

2. Know the preferences

It is important to consider one’s preference for golf lessons. For example, if an individual is very particular with the instructors, then, he or she should be prepared to prepare a bigger budget for it because skilled instructors usually offer expensive golf lessons.

3. Consider one’s goals and dedication to learn the game

You may not consider everything you just read to be crucial information about golf lessons. But don’t be surprised if you find yourself recalling and using this very information in the next few days.

Expensive golf lessons can really do amazement with one’s performance in the game. However, these things will only be put to waste if the concerned individual is not dedicated to do the lessons.

The important thing in golf lessons is to have one’s goals and dedication meet at a certain point.

4. Types of golf lessons

Golf lessons can either be private or those that are taught in golf schools. Both are advantageous to a golf wannabe. The only difference they make is with the length of time required to finish the lessons.

Private golf lessons entail a longer period than golf lessons taught in schools.

5. Shop around

Not all golf lesson providers are created equal. Hence, it is important for a person who wants to learn golf lessons to shop around first so that he will be able to compare one item from another.

Indeed, golf lessons can be very expensive. That’s why it is important to consider these factors so as to avoid any additional expenses.

Nevertheless, golf lessons can definitely help a person harness his or her skills when playing golf.

So now you know a little bit about how to shop for golf lessons. Even if you don’t know everything, you’ve done something worthwhile: you’ve expanded your knowledge.

Save $ with Golf Ball Used Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Golf s sometimes a frustrating game. Many have been known to lose their cool after hitting a ball into the rough, a sand trap or the water. Sometimes, the ball just seems to disappear. Tired of wasting all that money on golf balls that don’t seem to ever come back? Try investing in some of the used golf balls available online.

If you golf, chances are you’ve gone through your share of balls. They seem to get lost all the time, and the costs mount quickly. Even the best golfers routinely lose balls, and for the average duffer, these “misplaced” golf balls can quickly become an expensive addition to the golf outing.

Used golf balls that are in great condition and ready to play can be purchased in bulk over the internet. There are many companies that sell used balls, usually in dozens. Different companies have different grading systems but they are all relatively similar.

Most sites describe some sort of quality assurance sorting, so that the balls are graded. Balls are sorted into various categories and sold by the dozen.

Top grade used golf balls are often called Grade A or Grade 1, one or two sites listed them as Grade AAA. They are usually described as like new. Many customers have commented that these balls are often indistinguishable from the new ones, and can be subsequently lost just as quickly as those right out of the sleeve. These are usually described as near perfect with a slight blemish or mark.

Slightly less perfect balls are Grade B or Grade 2. These have more than one mark, but play like new. Accordingly, the price is a bit less than the near perfect ones.

Finally, there is a third grade called Grade C or 3. Occasionally the site will go ahead and call them range balls. These balls are more used, with several marks and blemishes, but would be suitable for range play or practice rounds. These are even less expensive than the others.

Make sure that your site specifies that there are no “X out” or manufacturer rejects. You should be receiving slightly used, but good balls. Also, you may want to inquire if the site you have chosen allows water balls. I’d avoid these if possible.

Check with your local golf club as well. Sometimes local clubs hold sales of used balls to clear their inventories as well. You may be able to buy back some of the balls you lost last season!

Finally, compare price and shipping costs on your used golf balls. Most shipping charges seem to run between $5.95 per dozen and $7.95 per dozen, but verify in advance. You should also be able to get a significant shipping discount for orders of more than one dozen.

Shopping for used golf balls can be a great way to cut the expenses of your golfing habit. Before you hit the links, try purchasing some practice balls you won’t mind losing!

Golfing Instructions For Beginners Monday, July 13th, 2009

This is one guide that can make all the difference in the world for beginners. Perhaps you cannot get your golf swing in gear nor can you afford to spend a thousand or more bucks for an instructor or buy a costly golf aid. Read on further to combat these difficulties.

This may sound too simple, but firstly, you have just got to let your hair down and relax to get a good swing in motion. You may have acquired already the knack to swing the best motion, but you need to get it better and be as comfortable as you can be. You have to forget that anyone is near you at all. Pretend that you are all alone. At the end of the day, no one is going to care about your swings, keep on concentrating on your game and then see the results. It’s a process of trial and error.

If your golf grip is the cause of your troubles then there are different kinds of golfing grips. You should go for the one that feels right for you and then always practice with that grip. Again, hitting on the correct grip for you can be a simple case of trial and error, but eventually you will hit the ones that complement your swing the best. It may take some time, but it may be worth it in the long run when you acquire that smooth, easy and effortless swing that you have wanted to have for such a long time.

You are more than likely to end up with an ungainly swing and a bad follow-through in case you do not have a nice stance. There is nothing to be tense about though; you can get yourself set in the right way. It is only a question of time before you can get the right motion, more so if you have been playing with that bad stance for some time. But it also may be a bit tough to come out of it and pass into a neat swinging motion if you have practiced in a bad form.

There is always space for doing better and better. So clearly, once you hit the correct golf swing, hold on to it and work with it. You may not be the most sought after golf player in the whole wide world, but if your swinging motions work for you and shows your scores coming down, then I am sure you will not give two hoots for being the very best on the planet! For a start it will make you feel good just to beat your friends on the field.

You can also browse through the many books and videos that are sold on the market to improve your swings and mechanics more. If you know what it is exactly that you are looking for then go do it without the aid of an instructor or expensive trainer. Have fun!

What You Should Know Before Buying Your First Set of Golf Clubs Friday, July 10th, 2009
Some golf clubs. From left to right are a driv...
Image via Wikipedia

Before buying your very first set of golf clubs, there are a few things you should take into consideration.

First, you must decide how often you will play the game.If you only intend to play a couple of times each year, then it is probably best to stick with a cheaper set of clubs, rather than spending a fortune on brand new clubs. But if you’re in this for the long haul, then you should do your research and determine which clubs are best for you.

Your level of interest and dedication will be an important factor. If you aren’t sure whether or not you will continueto golf, then you should probably look for a cheaper set of clubs or even some second-hand clubs. They will best suit a new player who is testing out the sporting world of golf.If your interest continues to strengthen, you can always buy a new set of clubs in the future.

If you are out of ideas for which set of clubs you should buy, then you can ask around and see what other people think will suit you best. Try asking some friends who like to play golf; they may be able to help. Or ask at a pro shop and see what they would recommend for you. Asking people is the best way to get ideas for which set of clubs could be the best for you.

There is always the option to test drive the golf clubs to get a feel for them and to see if they are the best possible clubs for your swing.

After you make your decision, hunt around at pro shops andeven garage sales. These places will cater to the first time golfer. If you play your cards right, you could very well end up with a bargain bag of golf clubs.

Golf Swing Instruction – Ask a Pro Wednesday, July 8th, 2009
Golf_Swing_Blur

Sometimes, no matter how much you practice, perfecting your swing or even correcting small problems in your swing seems impossible. In this case, you might require golf swing instruction from a pro…even if you have been playing for some time. Golf swing instruction will probably help you even more than you realize.

Golf pros are different from ordinary golfers. They have perfected their own game, and then they learned to study other people’s games to help them perfect their games. A golf pro knows that all golfers are different, and each one will have different needs to correct small problems. Pros are trained to help you correct those problems – in ways designed just for you.

Finding golf pros is easy – finding golf pros that are good is a little harder. Finding a golf pro that suits your particular needs can seem absolutely overwhelming… but it doesn’t have to be. There are certain steps to take to find a good golf pro. Don’t just settle for the guy that works in your local pro shop.

First, ask your friends for recommendations. Find out where the pros are located, and if possible, watch them with their other students from a distance. How do they interact? Are they patient? Do they seem to know what they are doing, and what they are talking about? Visit your local pro shop, and ask about the pros that are available in the area. Don’t worry about insulting the pro running the shop – he probably no longer offers instruction anyway.

Most clubs have golf pros on staff. Follow the same protocol, and watch them from a distance, after the practice session that you watch, try to catch up with the golf student, and ask questions about the golf pros instructional skills, and ask specifically if they would recommend him. Ask them if there has been any improvement in their game since they started the lessons.

Ask for references – and check them. If you haven’t had the opportunity to watch the pro in action on the course, ask to join a training session for observation purposes. Don’t be alarmed if the pro says no to this – it may simply be to protect the privacy of his or her clients. You might even offer to pay half of the hourly rate for the opportunity to watch them in action with another student.

Once you’ve started instruction with a golf pro, give it a few sessions to determine whether or not this is the right golf pro for you. Sometimes, people simply don’t get along well. It may be that this particular golf pro cannot convey the concept to you in a way that you understand. If it isn’t working out, don’t be afraid to stop working with that particular pro, and start your search for another one. The current pro may be able to make a recommendation if you just explain the situation to them in a nice way.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you can perfect your golf swing in just one or two sessions with a golf pro – or even three or four, and maybe not even in ten sessions! Everyone learns at their own pace, and golf techniques take time to learn, and even more time to perfect. Also, really listen to what your golf pro is telling you. If you aren’t willing to listen, you are wasting your time, your money, and the pros time as well. Stay completely focused during your training sessions, and make sure that you put in the additional practice time that is recommended by your pro.

If you feel that you have been given quality golf swing instruction by your pro, don’t be afraid to tip them, or offer them a bonus. This is a common practice, and many pros depend on tips a great deal. Treat your pro with respect – they are not underlings. Failure to give proper respect to your pro may result in him or her walking off the job! Golf pros have a true love for the game – and if you demonstrate that same feeling for the game, you may find that you receive superior instruction!

How To Choose The Best Wedges To Improve Your Golf Score Saturday, July 4th, 2009
Cleveland Sand Wedge
Image by Du Tran via Flickr

Ever wonder how the players on T.V. hit those perfect shots around the green that end up stopping right beside the hole?

It’s a really simple answer. They have the wedges that are fitted to their individual games. How do they find those wedges? Well let’s take a look. As you know golf wedges have come a really long way in the last couple years and the smarter players are realizing the benefits of these advancements.

If you are still one of those players who is still only carrying one wedge in your golf bag you are basically throwing away strokes to your golfing buddies or other competitors. You have to add the benefits of a better wedge game to your arsenal to succeed and lower your scores. The best thing is that it’s simple to do.

There are four basic wedges that are available to the game of golf today. These wedges all have a particular place in your bag in terms of the shots you can hit with them. Since 70% of the scoring is done in golf from inside 100 yards it is essential to have these four wedges in your bag.

These wedges are:

The Pitching Wedge – This wedge is included in your set and is probably the “one” wedge that every player has. It is usually the club that is hit form about 100 to 125 yards form the pin. The loft on these clubs are somewhere between 46 and 50 degrees depending on the manufacturer. This will be the longest wedge in terms of distance in your bag.

The Gap Wedge – This wedge is typically the club that is left out of the so called “mix” because of its late introduction to the wedge game. This club is used to fill the gap between the pitching and sand wedges and can carry lofts between 50 and 54 degrees. These clubs are sold individually at your local retailer.

The Sand Wedge – Don’t be fooled by the name of this club into thinking it’s only for use from the sand. Its loft is somewhere between 55 and 59 degrees and provides a great amount of spin or stopping power. It can be purchased on its own or sometimes come with your set. You usually hit this club form 90 yards into the pin including the sand traps.

The Lob Wedge – These clubs must be purchase separately from your local retailer. They are used for shorter high shots around the green that you would like to stop quickly. They generally have a loft of 60 to 64 degrees and are a lot of fun to hit.

As a general rule of thumb the average player should try to space the loft of the different wedges to 4 degrees. What that means is there should be 4 degrees difference from pitching wedge to gap wedge, 4 degrees form gap wedge to sand wedge , and 4 degrees form sand wedge to lob wedge.

There are a number of other variables that we can get into to help you select the best wedges for your game but these should give you a great starting point.
