Golf Drivers – How to Select it Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Golf drivers are used to take long distance shots. Golf Driver is the most important golf club in a golf bag. You use golf driver frequently while the game. Golf drivers are for long distance shots. There are many types of drivers available in the market. Those are titanium driver, steel driver and driver from composite material but you have to select right golf driver which is most suitable for you. Golf drivers are generally made from steel, titanium, and composite. The three materials are very different and this should be kept in mind when you are choosing your driver.

You can find steel drivers in the market. If you want to choose less expensive golf driver then steel golf driver is best. These steel drivers made from steel so they are heavier in weight. They are more durable and with less price. You can always have better ball connection with steel golf driver. Connection with the golf ball with steel driver is better. Steel drivers give you better service then any other golf driver.

Titanium is the best and the most expensive kind of material of which a club can be composed. This is because they are light and at the same time, they have a large head on the end. This gives the golfer the ability to increase the spot, making it possible to hit good shots even when off balance. The titanium driver saves people extra shots when the crunch time comes on the golf course.

The composite driver combines the advantages of titanium and non-metallic materials. These are clubs with a relatively small head on them. The driver’s weight centers near the face of the club, supposedly giving the golfer a bigger sweet spot. There is never a sacrifice of distance when you’re using this kind of driver ad yet, they don’t weigh too much.

Which ever material your golf driver made from but it should be most comfortable for you and most suitable for you. As golf driver is essential golf equipment you must not select it vaguely. If money is a problem then choose steel driver they are less expensive. Titanium drivers are best if you afford to purchase it. If weight is a problem then use composite material golf driver they are lighter in weight and if you want to select better golf driver then select titanium golf driver its performance is better than others. So select it wisely and enjoy the game of golf.

How To Improve On Your Golf Swing Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Watch the pros on Tour and notice how in-control they look at the finish position of the their golf swing. Why? Because they are!

They are in perfect balance. Even the pro who might look a little “crooked” at the end of the swing has a balanced swing. Vijay, who is slightly bent to the side at the finish position of his driver, is still in perfect balance.

How often do you think an amateur practices or even thinks about his or her finish position? Probably never. I would surmise that once contact has been made with the golf ball, most amateurs’ thoughts shift to the ball flight rather than where our body is finishing the swing.

Why is the finish position so important to a successful golf swing? And beyond that being in a balanced finishing position?

The finish position is directly related to two very important concepts involved in the golf swing. Number one is swing plane and clubhead is number two.

The swing plane is defined as the path on which the golf club should travel upon during the swing.

A quick review of the swing plane tells us that beginning with the address position, into the backswing, onto to the downswing, into impact, to follow through, and completing with the finish position, the golf club is intended to travel on a specific arch. This arch is a result of the biomechanics of the golf swing sequencing properly. In other words, everything working with the correct timing.

Think of the club traveling in a circle during the swing. This imaginary circle is your swing plane and it dissects your back shoulder on the backswing and transition phases of the swing.

Returns to the same position as you started at impact with the ball, and dissects your front shoulder during the follow through into the finish position.

If the golfer maintains the clubhead on this path during the swing this is an indication that the mechanics of the swing are being performed properly.

What does a balanced finishing position have to do with the swing plane?

A balanced finishing position is yet another indicator that, number one, the golf club is following the correct swing plane, and number two, the golfer is performing the mechanics of the swing in the correct sequencing with proper timing.

Secondly, the finish position is directly related to what is referred to as “feeling” the clubhead.

Ask any Tour player they will tell you that they can “feel” the clubhead at any moment during the swing.

Completing the swing in a balanced finish position requires you to be “tension” free and feeling the club head through the entire swing.

Now the bigger question is, how does the amateur golfer get to a balance finish position?

Easier said than done. To develop “feel” in the swing, maintain the proper swing path, and develop a balanced finish position requires mastering three principles.

Principle number one is proper swing mechanics. In order to develop “feel” and correct swing path requires the golfer to develop the correct mechanics of the swing.

Not only do you need to learn the different fundamentals of the swing, you need to train yourself to put these fundamental in proper sequence.

Principle number two is the body. The body swings the club. Your body must have the flexibility, balance capabilities, strength, endurance, and power to perform the mechanics of the swing.

If the body is unable to take the club on the proper swing plane because of a lack of flexibility or lacks the power to develop clubhead speed. The ability to maintain a proper swing path, and finish in a balanced position will be compromised.

Principle number three is practice. In order to develop the proper swing plane, create “feel” for the club, master the mechanics of the swing, and develop a body to support the swing, you must practice the swing and train the body. Over time this will result in the development of components of a proper golf swing.

The amateur will often leave out one of the three principles. If the golfer does not practice, train the body, or develop swing mechanics, it is unlikely ou will keep the clubhead on the correct swing plane.

Bottom line, a balanced finish position is a very good indicator that particular swing was efficient. It also should tell you that your body is flexible, strong, and powerful.

Visualizing Whilst on the Golf Course – Part 1 Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

How can you build visualization into your playing routine? Most golfers have a pre shot routine in terms of waggling the club or practice swings, yet fewer have a mental routine to match. This is a great shame, because the mental routine is the most important. Everything in life starts with a thought. You have to think straight if you want the golf ball to go straight, so to speak. You have to plan the golf shot mentally before you can transmit this information to the clubface. Or put another way, how can you impart the right information from the clubface to the golf ball if you are unclear about your shot?

You may think that you are clear about the shot – that you want to hit the golf ball down the fairway. But let us draw a comparison here. Golf balls know nothing, they don’t have minds and they don’t have prior knowledge. If a stranger to your town asked for directions how would you reply? Presumably the answer would be detailed, and you might even use gestures to help make the directions easier to follow. You may even get pen and paper out and draw a map. Unless you took the time to explain the directions fully and precisely that stranger is likely to get lost. The same thing happens to golf balls.

I’m not joking. This is what actually happens. Unless you want your golf balls to take a different route to the one which you desire (and end up getting themselves lost), you need to have clear and precise intent when taking your shot. You need to mentally plan the golf shot, and picturing the desired outcome is all important. A picture is worth a thousand words. Picture the shot, the distance, direction, trajectory, spin; See the ball landing and coming to a stop. Then take the shot. By doing this, the golf ball, like the stranger in your town, stands a far better chance of reaching the desired destination.

It only takes a couple of seconds to visualize your shot and all you need to do is to build this into your pre shot routine. To make it into a habit, you need to do it consistently; Visualize EVERY shot before you take it, not just putts or tee shots, EVERY shot. It won’t take long before this type of visualization is so habitual that it’s impossible to hit a shot without doing it. It will become as automatic as brushing your teeth morning and night.

Mental skills are a part of the game of golf which you can practice easily from your armchair when conditions are inclement outside, and also when its sunny. Don’t forget that every time you vividly imagine a perfect shot your brain doesn’t know the difference between that and a real shot and so every time you visualize great shots you are strengthening the neural pathways in your brain which create an expectation of achieving the perfect outcome. There is no excuse for being “bored”; Even when you’re in the check out queue in Safeway you can be visualizing great golf shots.

To Become Better At Golf Swing You Need To Consider The Swing Plane Sunday, January 17th, 2010

We as golfers have heard the term swing plane many times during our golfing careers. But do we really know the definition of it and the bearing upon our golf swing?

Recently, I had a conversation with Dean Reinmuth (top 30 teaching pro ranked by Golf Digest) and I think he described swing plane the best. Dean suggests to think of the swing plane as an imaginary circle. The imaginary circle that represents the swing plane is set at an angle. It is the path on which it is necessary for the club to travel in order to execute the swing correctly.

Beginning at address, the clubhead and shaft should be positioned at the “bottom” of the swing plane. During takeaway into the backswing and at the transition point of the swing, the clubhead and shaft are to remain on the swing plane. These three phases of the swing represent the club traveling “up” the swing plane to “top” of it. Keep in mind the visual of the circle and the shaft of the club dissecting the shoulder during these phases of the swing.

Once the transition is complete, the downswing begins and the clubhead is moving down the swing plane. The path on which the club is traveling down should be the same as on the backswing.

Continuing on with the swing plane, the club is to travel to again the “bottom” of the swing plane for impact with the golf ball. Once impact has occurred with the golf ball the follow-through of the swing occurs, and it is still necessary for the club to travel upon the correct swing plane. This assures that you are releasing the golf club correctly.

The swing plane on the follow through is essentially a “mirror image” of it on the backswing. The golf club, again, must travel up an imaginary circle that dissects your front shoulder up into the finish position.

What does the swing plane represent?

The swing plane represents the path on which your golf club should travel upon during the swing.

Why is it so important for the golf club to travel upon the swing plane?

The golf club must travel upon the correct swing path in order to impact the golf ball correctly. Impacting the golf ball correctly provides the greatest possibility of delivering powerful, accurate, and consistent shots on the course of play.

Oftentimes the golf club does not travel upon the correct swing plane. What happens in such instances?

The path of the club becomes and “outside to in” move resulting in a slice, or an “inside to out” swing plane resulting in a hook. Overall, the club’s not traveling on the correct swing plane results in poor shots.

Now that we know what a proper swing plane is within the golf swing and we can visually create a picture of it, how do we develop the proper swing plane?

This is the hard part, and there are no secrets about it. Referring back to my conversation with Dean Reinmuth, he suggests that it is a process of creating “feel” for the proper swing plane. Creating “feel” is a process of knowing where the clubhead is on the swing plane. This allows you to know where your golf club is in regards to the proper swing plane required of the golf swing.

How do you go about creating “feel” within your golf swing?

It is a process of understanding the mechanics of swing and developing the proper swing mechanics within your golf swing.

This allows you to know what the golf club should be doing, where it should be during each phase of the swing, and when it is not where it should be when you are swinging the golf club.

Overall, it becomes a process of recognition. Recognition of what is the right and the wrong movements/positions within the golf swing. Once “feel” is developed within your swing, I would definitely say you are close to mastering the golf swing.

This does require time and effort on your part. But if you are willing to put in the time and effort, rewards on the course will be well documented.

Have You Ever Noticed The Differences In Golf Balls Monday, January 11th, 2010

Finding the right ball for you is about spin, feel, distance, and price.

Just like golf clubs, golf balls must fit the golfer, and as with clubs, you must match the golf ball that best complements your specific swing and style of play.

Golf balls, although not inexpensive, are affordable enough to allow a degree of experimentation. You should try different brands and types of balls before settling on one.

Distance and Spin Today’s golf ball is about getting the 2 basic factors of distance and spin correct.

The trajectory (launch angle), provides the distance, and the spin provides better control of the golf ball.

Launch or trajectory angle is determined firstly by the driver, and then next by the golf ball.

If you already drive the ball long and accurate, perhaps the spin and feel of the ball around the green is more important.

Some top golfers will fit the golf ball, from the spin and feel of a ball around the green, back to the driver. Others will go from distance with a driver down to the wedge.

There are tracking devices used by professionals and ball manufacturers that track the flight and launch angle of the ball. The higher the COR of a ball , the higher the velocity this gives, but with a much lower feel to the ball

So what should you be looking for to get more distance through a better launch angle?

If you have, a low hand speed, then a ball that has high spin would give more optimum lift, hence more distance.

Conversely, a. higher hand speed would be better with a low spin.

Of course a downside to the higher spin ball, is that if you hit it incorrectly, then you will also put on the ball more side spin and the ball could go further off to the right or left of centre!

Feel It is the core that determines the compression and the hardness or softness of the ball. The outer cover will determine the durability and spin.

The old balata balls gave lots of spin and a good feel, but were less good for ball flight, or durability.

The Top-Flite Strata golf ball, introduced in the mid-1990’s, produced the first 3 piece ball.. It merged a high-spinning, soft-feeling Tour Balata type of ball, with the low-spinning, long-flying, and durable Pinnacle or distance ball.

This remarkable three-piece ball, was, indeed, two balls in one: It was a long-flying/low-spinning distance ball off the tee, and a high-spinning control ball off the irons.

They achieved this by adding a soft polyurethane cover on what was virtually a Top-Flite distance ball, and then adding a thin middle or mantle layer that encased the ball’s already large and solid rubber core.

A few years later, balls such as Titleist’s ProVI, Maxfli’s M3 Tour, Callaway’s Rule 35, Nike’s TA2 (both the Long and Spin models), and others, including new balls from Strata, improved on Strata’s original breakthrough, by improving the durability of their urethane outer covers and making them thinner and firmer for added distance.

At the same time, advances in rubber systems allowed ball makers to design cores that were more energetic or “faster,” for even more distance on shots hit with the longer clubs, while maintaining a nice soft feel.

Tour balls today, can provide good distance, durability and spin, but at a price.

What is best for you? If you have a high hand speed, then a higher compression ball, like a ‘DT’ ball, maybe better. With a slower hand speed, a lower compression ball like the ‘Maxfli noodle’ would probably suit. (I am not a representative of either golf ball manufacturer).

The manufacturer, today, can make a ball with a large rubber centre that feels soft like the low-compression balls of years past, but flies far with a lot of initial ball speed like the old high-compression balls.

Therefore, it is wise now to read what it says on the box, and try them out. You will be amazed at how different balls react.

Price Tour golf balls are still the best, but are a high price to pay.

Perhaps a happy medium is the mid-price range, which will provide good spin or distance characteristics, without having to pay through the nose. Plus if you lose those golf balls, then maybe you won’t need to spend as long looking for them.

Be honest with yourself, what is the ideal for you, is it distance or feel, or a happy medium all round.

Good luck in your ball fitting.

Learn Ways To Improve Your Golf Swing Friday, January 8th, 2010

It seems as though many golfers are unaware of the importance the hands play in the execution of the golf swing. Obviously, we know that the hands grip the golf club and attach the body to the club. But what is the importance of them during the swing?

The answer has to do with releasing of the club. Let’s go back and do a quick golf biomechanics review. During the swing, from address position to follow-through, the hands are active in a passive type of manner.

Let me explain. The goal of the golf swing is to move the club on the correct swing plane to induce the intended golf shot that you want. This occurs through the body’s moving through a series of positions. These positions are found within the different phases of the golf swing.

The phases of the swing are address, take-away, backswing, transition, downswing, impact, and follow-through. During all of these movements the body is performing, the golf club is being moved upon a swing plane. The swing plane is the path upon which the golf club is to travel. Proper impact with the golf ball requires the golf club’s traveling upon the correct swing plane.

In order for the club to travel on the correct swing plane it is necessary for the clubface to open and close. Oftentimes, in golf terms the opening and closing, of the clubface is termed “releasing of the club.” This is where the hands become an integral part of the golf swing.

If you talk to almost any instructor, they will say that any good player has “great hands.” This statement refers to exactly what was described above (the releasing of the club correctly). It’s obvious if you look at players such as Tiger, Phil, or Vijay.

I even remember walking the course at Doral in Miami with top-5 teaching instructor, Rick Smith. One point he continued to return to in terms of discussing the golf swing was “hands.” He stated more than once how any PGA Tour player has great hands. This just provides additional support for how important the hands are in terms of the golf swing.

But what does this all mean? Well, we know the hands are involved in the “opening and closing” of the clubface during your swing. This movement allows for the proper release of the club. As I mentioned, the hands are “active in your golf swing, but in a passive manner.”

Again, to open and close the clubface during the golf swing the hands move back during the backswing, hinge at the top of the backswing, return the club to square at impact, and release the club afterwards. In order for this to occur the hands must be passive!

What do I mean by passive?

You cannot force the hands to move through the golf swing and release the club. This creates tension in the golf swing, affects tempo, and, overall, results in poor shots. If you do not believe me, go to the driving range, grip a club as hard as you can, and attempt to swing. The results will be much less than optimal.

I think Dean Reinmuth, ranked by Golf Digest as a top-30 teaching pro, puts it best when speaking about the hands in the golf swing. He discusses “feel” as an integral part of the golf swing. He states that in order to have a successful golf swing you must be “tension free.”

“Feeling” the club move on the swing plane is an indicator of being “tension free.” And in order to have this feeling, your hands must be relaxed (i.e. passive).

How do you develop good hands in your golf swing?

Easier said than done. In order to develop “feel” in the golf swing, remove “tension” from your golf swing and develop great hands, you must develop three fundamentals.

Fundamental number one is an understanding of the golf swing. In order to know what the body and golf club are to do during the swing you must know the biomechanics of the golf swing. If you don’t, how are you going to know what the body and club are to be doing during each phase of the golf swing?

Secondly, you must develop the mechanics of the golf swing. Your body and mind must integrate the movements of the golf swing into a repeatable movement. This occurs through proper instruction and practice of the correct golf swing mechanics.

Finally, it is necessary to develop the body. Yes, the body! Your body must have the flexibility, strength, endurance, and power to perform the golf swing correctly. If the body is inflexible, weak, and powerless, how are you going to be able to perform the mechanics of the swing correctly?

The obvious answer is: you are not! Developing great hands in your golf swing comes down to developing a “basket” of fundamentals within your golf swing. Understand the biomechanics of the golf swing, develop the proper mechanics within your golf swing, and develop a body to support your swing. These are the keys to developing great hands in your golf game.

Golf Sunglasses – The Best Ones For You Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

When you think about golfing, it isn’t just about the golf clubs and cart. It’s not even just about the right golf pants and top. When you are on the golf course, you also need to have the best golf sunglasses for the occassion.

Out on the golf course, the best golf sunglasses serve more than one function. It isn’t just about you being out there on the links, looking cool, trying to impress the drink cart girls with your sense of style. The golf sunglasses also protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun’s glare.

If you have just spent a small fortune on having the right golf clubs, equipment and collared shirts to be seen with to go with your expensive country club membership, then you may not want to pay the high prices that are usually attached to the big-name designer brands in the world of sunglasses. Just because Oakley, Bolle and NYX attach hefty price tags to their merchandise, does not mean that you have to purchase them, unless of course, you have to have them and don’t mind footing the bill.

Some of the best sunglasses, in this case, are the cheapest sunglasses. Cheap, though, doesn’t neccesarily mean poorly made, hence poor quality. It doesn’t have to be the very cheap products that you can purchase at the local convenience store.

Technologically advanced, inexpensive golf sunglasses can still be found and just as comfortable and stylish as the brands that costs hundreds of dollars. Even the inexpensive brands can still be produced with the lightweight polycarbonate materials that makes them barely noticeable once you are wearing them on your face. These type of golf sunglasses can still be accompanied by special attachments which loop the sunglasses around your ears, making it almost impossible for you to lose them from your face, whilst you have a good hard hack at the golf ball.

From a health perspective, the most important thing for your eyes is that wearing the best golf sunglasses gives you lenses that will block out 100 per-cent of the suns deadly ultraviolet rays. So when it comes to purchasing your next sunglasses, make sure to look out for glasses that block but UVA and UVB. The higher the nanometer rating, the better.

Getting the right sunglasses now, for your game of golf, to take care of your eyes, means that there will be less to worry about in later life from eye diseases such as cataracts or other eye conditions.

On the positive side, you will now find that you have saved more money, giving you more cash in your pocket to spend on golf balls, golf equipment, green fees and of course to buy drinks for those drink cart girls that you have been looking at through your great new sunglasses.

So, don’t forget, a brand name isn’t the be-all and end-all of golf sunglasses. Sometimes, it is just a name!

Greenside Golf Bunkers Free Tips And Advice to better Shots Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Before playing your shot, move to the back outside of the bunker and take a few practice swings as if you were in the bunker.
Access your line of target, stand with your feet apart, make sure to have your stance and club face open

Most greenside bunkers you will find have greater banks than fairway bunkers have, so you will require a good height to your shot and a very short distance.
Remember with a bunker shot one can not ground the club in the sand when addressing the ball, including not touching the sand before you play your stroke. If you do either you will be penalised two strokes in stroke play or in match play the penalty is loss of a hole.

Have the golf ball so it is back in your stance, but not too far back. Always remember the more of a back swing you adopt the greater the distance you will have.

Firm both your feet in the sand to create a solid footing, as you rotate your feet creating a solid footing you will get a feel as to how loose the sand is, and also a guide as how much sand there is.
Make sure never to change your posture. How hard a player should hit down into the sand it all depends on the texture and depth of the sand.

When striking the ball hit the sand approximately four inches before the golf ball. Most importantly make sure to follow through with your shot, this is vital, if you fail to do so your ball will most likely fail to clear the bunker lip. Don’t apply brute force as an attempt to blast the ball out will only cause all kinds of problems, Try and imagine the club head travelling on a U-shape into and through impact
By hitting the sand approx the four inches before the golf ball and making sure to follow through, the club should slide under the ball and should therefore have a lot of spin in the ball preventing the ball from rolling too far.

Finally always remember to smooth out the foot marks and any other marks with the rake provided.
Failure to repair a bunker is as with any damage to the golf course is unforgivable. If there is no rake available try and use your club to smooth out the marks as best as possible.

More Tips To Improve Your Golf Psychology Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Ever wondered why you’re the greatest golfer in your world at the driving range but when it comes to playing a round you can’t get it done? If this does happen to you then I’m willing to bet that your swing turns distinctly average on the course. If this sounds like you then its probable your mindset isn’t in the right place. Lets take a look at some of the problems this presents and what you can do to get the best out of yourself on the course.

A big problem for every golfer is nerves and lack of confidence on the first tee. For amateurs this is generally the only time an audience is in attendance as the tee time queue builds up. As a result you often see out of character mis-hits off the tee due to pressure of being watched by people they don’t know. To help reduce ths anxiety it is as simple as doing some preparation.

Turn up to the course early and do some stretches. Get loose so your swing is less tense. Hit a few balls at the range and get comfortable with your swing. Focus on the club you will use from the first couple of tees. Get your putting stroke in rhythm on the practice green. The confidence you will gain from a solid first hole will provide a great platform for the rest of the day.

Lack of commitment to your swing usually results in a poor shot. So when you step up to the golf ball mentally commit to the shot. If you second guess whether it was the right club selection or you think the aim might be off you’re asking for trouble. Make your decision and then commit to the shot. You’re better off hitting a good golf swing that was too much club than topping the ball 20 yards because you didn’t commit. It was a technical mistake you can learn from.

If you have trouble with your swing thoughts, i.e. you get easily distracted mid swing, formulate a simple phrase to focus on that gets you through your swing. It could be as simple as counting. For example, count 1 for your back swing. At the top of the swing count 2 and then 2 again. Count 1 on the downswing. This helps with rhythm and pushes out distractions. Experiment with this and see what works for you.

If you find yourself with a shot that requires clearing water or a bunker do not visualise the ball going into these traps. Your brain cannot distinguish between reality and what you think. By doing this all you are achieving is training your brain to instruct your body to get the ball in the sand or water. Visualise the shot you want and then allow yourself to hit it.

Now lets face it, golf is a difficult game and there will be times you go through a bad patch. Its how you deal with them that determines whether a bad day turns into an horrific day or whether you end up salvaging your round. There is simply no point in being negative. Its not going to improve your game. It will only make your game worse. Work on turning your negative self talk into positive self talk.

After a bad shot take time out and take a couple of deep breaths. Let it go and move on. If you become tense and angry your swing will speed up and your play will become even worse.

Accept that mistakes will happen – try and watch some pro golf on TV. We all think that these guys are perfect on the course but what you will see is that many of them make mistakes and mis-hit the ball. Their true skill lies in forgetting about the previous shot and making the absolute best of the next one even if it is a bad lie or in the rough.

Finally, never give up. The front nine may have been awful but there is still another 9 to go. Many a bad round has been turned around after 9 so why should yours be any different? Everyone, has tough times on the course but the best way to deal with them is to learn from your mistakes, stay positive and stay relaxed. You can’t expect your game to be turned round if you’re angry, tense and lacking in focus.

The golfswing. Is there really a better way? Monday, December 21st, 2009

Hello golfers! I built this site to try and help inform golfers who really want to improve their golf game. There are a lot of great instructional videos and teaching aids out there to help you. But without spending a lot of money what items do you buy? And which ones really work? So I decided to point out a teaching aid I have suggested over the years and is still in use to this day.

First of all I am not a golf professional but I have worked in a golf pro shop for many years and have had many people ask me how I learned to swing the golf club. I always find myself practically giving everyone a golf lesson for free. I don’t mind at all and I am flattered by the compliments. But all I try to do is point out a few things and help them improve their swing.
The one thing people notice about my golf swing is that it looks effortless and they ask why the ball seems to fly a long way. I explain to them that I didn’t start this way. But what I did learn in the beginning was to stop forcing the swing and let the club do the work. Explain please? This is always the next question. So my answer is always the same. The design of the club it not that of a baseball bat and everybody incorporates this concept into their golf swings. It’s a natural reaction and we all do it.

Take a look at the design of golf club the thickest part of the shaft is in you hands and the thinnest is at the opposite end, it flexes unlike the baseball bat and it does not flex. You would be surprised to know how many people do not understand this.
Everybody wants to hit the golf ball further but without the use of this design and the proper elements of the golf swing it will never happen.

So I always refer to the Medicus. This is a great way to get you in the right positions at every point of your swing. There was a teaching method called “The Ten Point Swing”.
I learned this method when I started and I truly believed this is what started me to off to a good golf swing. I didn’t have the Medicus but it’s the same concept of this teaching method. In the lesson of the “Ten Point Swing” the method explains in great detail where you should be at every crucial point of your golf swing. This allows you to take the club away at every critical part of the swing and bring it to back the point of impact time and time again.

We all know that muscle memory is the key to a better golf swing. I remember reading what a doctor had stated “That the golf swing is the most difficult function for the human brain to repeat” Why? Because the use of so many muscles that the brain can not send out the same signals to every muscle in your body exactly the same way twice. It is even harder than a baseball swing, why? Because a baseball swing uses muscles for defense this is a normal reaction of the brain.

Have you ever heard the phrase “Relax and just hit the ball” how can you do this when the brain will not relax enough to hit the smallest object not in motion? So without a natural defense the brain needs something else to do, so it worries about what is going to happen next before you hit the ball. This is why muscle memory is a key component in a golf swing. This will allow you to free up the brain and send information where it matters most.

This is why I have been referring the Medicus ever since I was introduced to it. It is the most responsive teaching aid to help build muscle memory and help you swing the golf club correctly. It uses a hinge built right into the shaft that when you are in the wrong position it breaks down. This keeps you from making the same mistakes over and over again. Once you have taken the club back correctly it will not break down. Now as you start the swing down towards the ball the hinge stays locked, this is a great feeling because you are now in the right position to strike the ball.
I have seen golfers take expensive video cameras to the range and film themselves. I have even seen a guy once take a back swing hit and break his camera. Why do people do this you might wonder? So they can later see what they are doing wrong. This seems funny to me because by the time they study the film how do they know what they are doing wrong?
That’s what the Medicus gives you quick response to know what exactly you are doing wrong without expensive cameras. If you plan on taking golf lessons let me tell you this. I have found most golfers are embarrassed to take lessons from a professional, but they will take advice from a friend and never improve their swing.
I strongly believe you should take lessons from a golf professional, but before you do and spend hundreds of dollars first. Get your Medicus club, practice and develop a golf swing that you can allow them to work with. It will be the best investment in your golf swing you ever made!

Perfect Golf Swing Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Anyone who spends time on the golf course is looking for the best possible golf swing. Some argue that there is no such thing but after witnessing some of the pros at work I would have to differ. The skill required for this game is quite imposing if you really think about it. Nevertheless, the perfect golf swing is attainable.

First of all we have to recognize that golf is a game that is as intellectual as it is physical. My husband describes it as a game of chess that involves gross motor skills. He has spent a lot of hours trying to develop the best possible swing that he can master however I think that his approach is all wrong.

Even though he recognizes the cognitive aspects of the game he seems to forget about them when he hits the golf ball. He also seems to think that the perfect golf swing is a complete myth that has been developed to torture golfers around the world. However, he is looking at the whole thing backwards. So are many other golfers.

Many professionals would agree that there is no such thing as a perfect golf swing. This elusive skill has seemed to develop a personality. Many people seek it to no avail and many decide to write it off as a myth so they can sleep at night. Sound dramatic? Well, it is to an avid golfer.

Part of the appeal of the game is its challenging nature. The combination of physical and mental control is great with the feat of hitting the ball on target. Many people look to the perfect golf swing as a personification of the challenge. It is no longer an action, but a kind of Holy Grail for the golfing community.

It is important to recognize that the perfect golf swing is fundamentally an action. Sometimes thinking too much can actually have an adverse effect on your swing. Perhaps the best way to achieve the perfect golf swing is to quit obsessing over it.

When we think too much we hinder our own progress. Many golfers look at the game as a practice in control but this very quest for control might be what is keeping you from the elusive swing. You may find that part of the art of combining the mind and the body in the golf swing has a lot to do with letting go instead of controlling.

Letting Go of Fear in Golf Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Golfers experience fear in many different situations, be it when you are standing on the first tee, or holing out on the eighteenth green, or when you are thinking about driving the golf ball inside a line of trees or pitching a ball over water. The golfer’s fears can relate to what other people think, or a lack of belief in your own golfing ability. Some of us find that the putter or the wedge takes on the feel of a snake or an octopus in our hands. Some of us freeze; some sweat and some move more quickly…Some stop playing golf.

Golfing fears range from global to specific. You play golf, or any sport, from the platform of you the person. You play your golf within the constraints of your physical body, your mind and your emotions. Mind works on body and body works on mind. How many times have you thought, or said out loud, “I have a mental block with…”? A negative thought creates a blockage in your physiology – this is FACT. Every thought you have has energy, and the neurotransmitters in your brain take the thought information to every cell in your body.

It has been shown that to repress anger for twenty minutes will suppress your immune system for up to eight hours. EIGHT HOURS. So when you are standing over the golf ball, it is worth remembering that just thinking “I’m going to duff this one” actually has the power to trigger off a PHYSIOLOGICAL response, whereby the neurotransmitters in your brain transport that information to your cells…and you know the outcome. It is inevitable – you have programmed your body to duff that shot. And saying “don’t” doesn’t work either. By this I mean “Don’t duff this one” or “don’t go in the bunker”. In such a case the words are saying “don’t go there” but the emotional energy is going DIRECTLY there.

Where there is a conflict between your will power and your imagination your imagination wins. Your mind is exquisitely talented. You can be standing on the tee with four hundred yards of fairway stretching in front of you, with a bunker that’s just two by two, and actually manage to get the ball into that bunker just by THINKING “don’t go there”. Every thought has energy. The level of energy depends on the emotional value attached to the thought. The more intensely you experience the emotion, the more pronounced the result. Your thoughts create your emotions and direct your actions.

Everything starts with a thought. And you can choose your thoughts, although you may not have realized this. It always amazes me how many people acknowledge that they have a MENTAL block with putting, or chipping or their driver, and yet proceed to tackle the problem from a physical perspective – either buying a new club, consulting a different coach, or just standing hitting ball after ball on the practice range – rather than asking themselves how they could change their thinking. And as Einstein pointed out, if you keep on doing the same things over and over again, you can hardly expect the results to change. The fact is, if you have a mental block all you have to do is to explore your thoughts and choose to change them.

What I suggest to successful golfers, and what works for them, is to develop as many mental skills as you have shots. In your mind now, count the number of clubs in your golf bag and the different types of shot you can hit with each one…just make a quick calculation and you will realize how many mental skills in golf there are that you can choose to learn. As you practice your mental golf skills you get better at them.

If you are building strength in the gym, the number of repetitions and the weights you use will determine the result. If you are learning a new shot in golf the number of times you practice it will determine its effectiveness and consistency. The same applies with the acquisition of mental skills for golf. To go to a hypnotherapist or golf psychologist and then not practice the skills decided upon is like having your golf lesson and never practicing. And I’m sure you have met as many people as me who say “that didn’t work”, when the reality is they didn’t give it a chance to work. The teacher can only ever be as good as the student. The teacher can only guide, the student learns.

So many people simply say “but I can’t do it”, or some equivalent negative. And if you think you can’t, you can’t. You don’t even get past go. But if you are willing to approach the situation from a different perspective…a whole new golf game can emerge for you.

It is well known that children “have minds like sponges”, that they find it easier to learn and that it gets increasingly more difficult to learn as you get older. This is because up until the age of 7, during the imprinting period of development, the subconscious mind is completely open to suggestion. And from then to the age of 12, the modeling period, the conscious mind is forming, and after that the conscious mind filters everything before it is assimilated into the subconscious.

Whatever beliefs you have, they are just beliefs, nothing more. There is no need to be held back by limiting beliefs. You can choose to change beliefs no matter how deep rooted they are. Just as you go for a mechanical lesson from your golf professional, you may need a little help or direction from a golf psychologist, but all beliefs can be changed.

You have a body and a mind that has a similar physiology and neurology as the best golfers in the world. Athletic literature is full of examples of athletes who have excelled because of their internal desire, rather than the physical attributes such as size, strength, power or speed. There are tall golfers and short golfers, male and female golfers, young and old golfers. It is not age or body shape that prescribes ability. It is your MIND that makes the difference. What the mind can perceive, the mind can believe and the mind can achieve.

You have the ability to play golf well. How good you get will depend on what you want to get out of the game. It is your choice – you can be as good as you want to be. The most important thing is to set your own goals, and enjoy your golf – it’s a game and should be fun. Unfortunately many people overlook this fact, and allow worries and fears to get in their way. Fear is something that we learn through experience. Fear of embarrassment and fear of failure result in many adults not even attempting to learn a new task. Returning to the subject of children, we are not born with fear. Think about when a baby learns to walk. How many times does that baby teeter along and then fall, and then try again, and fall over again and try again, until eventually they can walk? If that child was worried about embarrassing him or herself, would they have learnt to walk? A baby will persevere time and time again, and has absolute trust that they will be able to learn that skill – otherwise they would not learn that skill.

The most important factor to grasp here is that what other people think doesn’t matter…but what you think does. What the mind can perceive, the mind can believe and the mind can achieve.

The Do’s and Don’ts in Your Golf Mind – Part 2 Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

You can also use this type of visualization to become more creative in your short game, visualizing different shots, both high and low. Remember, everything in life starts with a thought, including every shot you make in golf. You have to think about it, plan it, visualize it and then it has the best chance of doing what you what it to do. If you don’t tell the golf ball clearly where you want it to go, it will go wherever it pleases…and probably won’t please you!

Here’s a challenge for habitual slicers, which covers, as you probably know, 70% of the golfing population. Be honest now and really think about what thoughts run through your mind when you’re standing on the tee and there are trees all the way down the right of the fairway. Are you thinking “OK, there’s a great spot in the middle of the fairway and I’m going to aim at that particular point”; or do you think “Oh no, trees on the right, I’d better aim further left”? And as you aim further left, do you pick an exact target to aim at, or do you simply think “further left”? And as you aim “further left” do you find that you come across the ball more and slice the ball even further to the right? Because if you did that your golf ball probably did exactly what you told it to do…Even as you were thinking “further left” were you not PICTURING those darned trees down the right?

So, the challenge to slicers is to go out there and decide on your exact target and picture the ball’s flight path and trajectory as it flies to that target and then just hit the ball. And if you really want to go for it, set the ball out to the RIGHT and draw it in to the centre, firstly in your imagination, and then notice how your mind really does tell the golf ball where to go. Your mind is far more important than your technique…try it and see for yourself. (If you think about it, what I’m saying is also very logical – if by intentionally setting it out left, you unintentionally hit a slice, then is it possible that by intentionally setting it out right, you might unintentionally hit a draw?)

Once again, you can be visualizing your routine and your shots when you are relaxing at home. What can be simpler than this type of practice? Practice, of the right things, really does make perfect. The beauty of visualization practice is that EVERY shot is perfect and so your brain is recording these perfect shots all of the time whilst you visualize. If you were partaking of actual practice, some shots would be great whilst others might not be so accurate – and your brain is recording every shot. This explains why numerous studies have shown that visualization practice is MORE effective than actual practice.

So if you want to get a HEAD start to your golfing season, get visualizing. And you don’t have to spend hours at it either. Research has shown that just spending 1-3 minutes visualizing at a time is optimal for this type of effective practice. To put it in perspective, that’s less time than smokers spend on smoking a cigarette! You could be visualizing whilst smoking or even while brushing your teeth.

And if you really want to excel you could go to sleep listening to a golf hypnosis cd to embed such visualizations deep into your subconscious mind; Again, what could be easier? You just get into bed, put the golf hypnosis cd on and fall asleep. Easy!

You can learn how to really visualize your shots with the help of hypnosis download. Hypnosis downloads can be used to get you to focus, to stay in the now, to visualize a great shot and to see what you really want to see thereby making it happen. And that’s what you want; you want to make it happen when you are out there on the course.

Is Your Golf Up To Scratch? – Part 2 Monday, December 7th, 2009

Let’s see how we can apply this technique throughout your game. OK, you’re standing on the first tee, choosing your line and there’s a persistent thought of “don’t hook it into the trees”. What usually happens when you’re thinking this? Yes…golf balls always do what they are told; you are thinking about hooking into the trees and you do exactly that. Yes, I know, I can hear you saying “BUT I thought DON’T hook into the trees”. Your inner mind does not pay any attention to the “don’ts” of this world.

Whatever you are thinking about you are giving energy to, and energy is transmitted out into the atmosphere and attracts exactly what you are thinking about into your life. This is the law of attraction. Put another way, as you are thinking “Don’t hook it into the trees” you are at the same time inadvertently creating a picture in your mind of the ball going into the trees and also attaching a lot of energy to that picture because you feel a bit agitated about it; and so the ball goes into the trees. In fact, the ball went exactly where you inadvertently planned for it to go. This is how talented your mind is. If you ever doubted the fact that 90% of golf is played in the mind, this phenomenon is undeniable proof!

What can you do to stop this happening? You can recognize that you are thinking about hooking into the trees, create a picture of it intentionally, then move that picture to one side, shrink it, drain the color out, crumple it up and put it in the bin; and then, create a big, bright, clear picture in your mind’s eye of the golf ball landing where you want it to, sitting up nicely on the fairway.

You can also use this technique of “binning the negatives” when you have played a less than perfect shot or missed a putt. Create a picture of it and bin it. Then re-run in your mind’s eye the perfect shot, or the perfect putt. This is a great post-shot routine to adopt, and extremely effective, because your mind will only be recording good golf shots, thereby making the likelihood of great shots more compelling, whilst at the same time literally erasing poor shots from your mind. Thus your golfing confidence builds more quickly and easily than ever, and as the title of Dr Bob Rotella’s book states “Golf is a game of confidence”.

Getting back to your New Golf Season’s resolutions and making them probable instead of possible, you should now have a clear, in-focus, bright and compelling picture of you achieving your golfing goals. This is vitally important because whatever you imagine you can create. The next question to ask is what do you need to do to get to that point? What do you need to do physically and also mentally? From a mental perspective, the consistent application of the “binning the negatives” technique will transform your game, not to mention your life in general. You will be focusing on what you want to happen, rather than what you don’t. You will be aware of choosing where you want the golf ball to go and intentionally sending it there. You will now be in control of your thoughts and their resultant effect on the golf ball.

It’s also worth examining your thought processes whenever a shot doesn’t quite work out. Ask yourself were you thinking clearly and precisely? Did you picture what you wanted? Or was your focus drifting off at a tangent? Or did you simply stand up to the ball and hit it without planning? Or did you stand over the ball for ages with a myriad of thought competing for your attention? I’ll wager a bet that 90% of your “bad” shots are caused by “bad” thoughts. Check this out for yourself. If your own statistics reflect this percentage, then it follows that you have the ability, you have the talent, to hit this percentage of your “bad” shots perfectly simply by being aware of your thoughts and choosing to think clearly. That’s got to be an easier way to get your handicap down than changing your swing, don’t you agree?

Your subconscious mind will always work towards a goal that has been visualized in your mind’s eye. Your energy is being directed towards it, whether that goal is long term (as in your New Golf Season’s Resolution) or short term (your next shot). You have the ability to use your mind to achieve your golfing goals easily and effortlessly. You also have to plan in a physical sense towards your goal; you’re not going to improve without playing, so you have to put the time in as well. You’ll not put time in unless you find that its fun, so make sure that it is fun.

Golf is a game, it’s meant to be enjoyed. You, and nobody else, are the creator of your destiny and the master of your golf game, so long as you choose to be. You will find that hypnosis downloads or golf hypnosis cds will help you immensely in mastering your golfing mind and taking control of your destiny.

Do You Do “Basil Fawlty” Impressions On The Golf Course? – Part 1 Friday, December 4th, 2009

Golf is a game and should be fun. Fun is what it’s all about; playing a great game with a few pals. No matter how good a golfer you are and no matter how important your golf may have become to you, it’s still a game and should be enjoyed in the spirit of the game. It’s a recreational activity, which you should find relaxing.

Do you find it relaxing? Or do you find your emotions being affected in a rather different way as you play this great game? Do you find yourself hacking your golf clubs into the ground, or slinging them across the fairway? Do you find yourself muttering four letter words under your breath (or out loud)?

We all have caricatures in our minds of the true “Mr. Angry”. Are you a “Mr. Angry golfer?” If so, would it be handy to be able to change?

Anger is a normal and usually healthy human emotion. When anger is controlled, or managed, it will not cause you, or anyone around you, any harm. But when it is out of control it will become destructive. Uncontrolled anger is a major cause of conflict in both personal and professional relationships, on an off the golf course.

Anger is an emotional state which may vary in intensity and which is accompanied by physiological and biological changes – your heart rate increases, blood pressure rises, adrenaline is secreted at a greater level. Not very helpful when you’re trying to play a game that requires a state of relaxed concentration in order to be able to put your best swing on the golf ball.

Anger is caused by your own perception of events, whether that event is happening now, or in the past, or you are anticipating a future event. It is important that you understand this fact. You create your own anger. Your golf ball may have found its way into the trees, or a plugged lie; there may be a lack of baskets at the range or the tee box may not be level…but “it” did not make you angry…You did.

You will no doubt have wondered how some golfers remain calm, or even laugh, no matter what happens to their ball whilst others “blow” or “flip” at the slightest thing. The difference is that some people have learnt to manage their anger, whilst others have given in to it.

You have probably watched “Fawlty Towers” and laughed at Basil’s antics. But isn’t the entire series based on taking off mismanaged anger and frustration? And the exaggerated body language demonstrates beautifully the actual effect of anger – raised voice, jerky movements, clenched fists, and…a direction for the anger – usually Manuel or Mrs. Fawlty…and the disastrous results that are achieved reflect the destructive effect of uncontrolled anger.

And the equivalent of Basil in golf can be equally amusing some of the time…or perhaps embarrassing, depending on how you see it. The direction for the anger is usually the ball, the clubs, the nearest gorse bush, and so on. In extreme cases the entire trolley and clubs have been known to be launched into water and never retrieved!

The question is how have those non-angry people learnt to manage their anger? How can “Basil” learn to manage his anger? And, more importantly, do you want to control your anger? Because if you don’t want to, you won’t even try. Everyone can change so long as they want to. You’re not born angry, you just haven’t learnt how to manage your anger.

How to Improve your Golf Swing Relatively Quickly Saturday, November 28th, 2009

There’s nothing worse than a bad drive. Some people blame their clubs, but the best golf pros in the world will tell you that after a certain point, there’s no need to upgrade your golf equipment. I’m going to tell you how to improve your swing without buying a new set of clubs.

What could you be doing wrong? You bought the Cobra driver. You spent more for it than your TV and shoes combined. So why does your handicap stay high? The solution to your golf inquiry is actually quite simple, user error. If you’re like most golfers, you don’t need lessons. What you need is a new outlook on the art of golfing.

So, what does someone really need to master golf like Tiger Woods. I have no idea, how Tiger does what he does. I can knock your handicap down by 2 and show how to get better in small steps. What you need is more focus. I’ve seen folks think the shot out for ten minutes, stand at the tee, breathe, and slice the ball 300 yards off course right into a water hazard. It’s not about planning, it’s about pushing all the noise in your mind away. Before you ever hit the ball, relax. You should notice the smell of the air, the feel of the sun on your skin. When you swing, don’t hit the ball as hard as you can. Some folks want that perfect 500 yard drive, and don’t make it half that far for forcing the golf ball into submission. The ball was made to fly, and the club to give it air. You are just a part of the story of golfing. Just let the golf accessories do their job. Strangely, the French have been golfing much longer than Americans. There’s an informative article written by one of these classic golfers, on perfecting your golf swing, if you like the subject you should read sejour stage golf. It also covers the subject of golfing.

Golf is based on natural laws. Social values are mutable. If golfing were based on social values, you would be able to force the game to work. Golf is based on natural laws, and if you want to win, then you must wait and allow the game to play out. The only thing that’s stopping you from winning is the paradigm you’re using. Don’t force golf to progress, just let it happen.

Golf is like life, it takes time, it takes practice, and it takes discipline to succeed. No matter how hard you work it’s important to remember that a good attitude must be the basis of all learning. If you take golf classes, don’t think of it as a daily oblation, think of it as an opportunity. As your attitude changes, your game will improve dramatically.

Functional Golf Training Monday, November 16th, 2009

Most sports that involve striking an object do so while the object is in motion. Unlike baseball, tennis, hockey, soccer, and the like, golf requires that contact be made with a stationary object. That may sound like a simpler task, but consider that productive contact relies upon the physical characteristics of the golfer along with the environment from which the shot is being made. In this regard, swinging a golf club is perhaps one of the tougher skills to perfect.

Granted, hitting a moving object requires good eye-hand coordination and plenty of practice. The environment, though, by which most of these actions are performed is predictable. The batter’s box, tennis court, and hockey rink, for example, are all fixed, even surfaces that remain that way throughout the event.

A golf course, however, is anything but predictable. Except for the tee box, rarely does the golfer experience the same shot twice during a round. The golf ball may be stationary, but the conditions upon which the ball rests are varied.

Due to this fact, a golfer must condition the body to mimic these playing conditions. The influence of ground and gravitational forces, while hitting shots from various angles and body positions, dictates the need for a functional training program that prepares the golfer for these conditions.

For example, an uphill lie will generate ground and gravitational forces that will cause the golfer’s knees to lean down the slope of the hill, while requiring an adjustment of the upper body. This places a different type of load to the leg and trunk muscles compared to when hitting from a flat lie.

The same goes for when the ball’s above the golfer’s feet. In this position, the feet are more flexed, the calves are stretched, and once again the upper body must adjust to accommodate the lie or the golfer may wind up falling backwards during the swing sequence.

To maximize performance, the functional training program should adapt the golfer to these conditions. Since the tasks for golf are performed standing on varied terrain, exercises done while only standing on a flat surface will not completely cover all elements of the game.

In addition, while swinging a golf club, there is no machine or device that supports the golfer or his weight as body parts are moved through multiple planes of motion. Therefore, sitting in an exercise machine will not provide the added benefit of stabilization or balance nor will it likely offer the multi-joint, multi-plane movement required for golf. It does provide a strength component to the muscle group being isolated, however, and should not be totally banned from the program.

A better option would be to perform standing exercises, as much as possible, using free weights or other functional training apparatus, and moving through multiple planes of motion during each exercise. For example, performing a single-leg forward lunge with a lateral shoulder raise of the opposite side arm would provide both sagital (front-to-back) and transverse (rotational) movements for the hip and frontal (side-to-side) motion for the shoulder. This enhances specificity to the golfer and the mechanics of the golf swing.

By incorporating these functional training guidelines, golfers will maximize the training session and better prepare themselves to perform the unsupported task of swinging a golf club, no matter what circumstance the golf course may hand them.

What Golf Ball Is Right For Me Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Maybe using the same type golf balls as the PGA golf pros will improve your game…and maybe it won’t. You need to choose the golf ball that’s right for your own game. Choosing the wrong kind of golf ball can be a bigger handicap to your game than starting at the 19th hole. Choosing the right kind of golf ball can have you feeling like a Tiger, even if you don’t quite have his handicap.

Golf balls come in three styles: 2-piece, 3-piece, and high performance. 2-piece golf balls are designed for improving your distance, while 3-piece and high performance golf balls can typically help with accuracy.

The 2-piece golf balls are especially good if you’re just starting out or if you’ve played just enough to know you really want to give this sport a try. They’re also terrific for high handicap golfers who have been around a while. Hey, we can’t all be pros! These are the most common type on the market and usually less expensive than 3-piece balls. Best of all, the large rubber core provides faster speed off the tee for those of you with a slow swing. In turn, that gives you greater distance.

It could happen that the first time you played, everyone was astounded at the way you slammed that little white ball with the power of a major league batter aiming for a grand slam. But that’s doubtful. Distance is usually developed over time as you develop your swing and find the groove. When you are just beginning, chances are you need to improve your accuracy more than your distance. Once you’ve developed your accuracy, then is the time to choose a golf ball and clubs that will help improve your distance.

If you haven’t developed consistent accuracy ? that is, having the ball consistently land in the same “general” area each time ? then the 3-piece golf ball probably isn’t right for you. It’s just not as forgiving of miss-hits as the 2-piece golf ball. The same goes for high performance balls. They’re pretty much designed for advanced golfers…and their price bears this out!

One factor to always be considered is cost. Simple, standard 2-piece golf balls usually come in 18-packs and are relatively inexpensive. The cost of golf balls may seem small in comparison to the overall cost of pursuing the sport but the inexperienced golfer can go through a lot of golf balls in a very short space of time!

The key, as with most golf equipment, is to choose the right kind of golf ball for your level of play. Consider your swing and your game, and then choose the ball that will help eliminate your weaknesses and build upon your strengths.

Perfect Golf Swing Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Some argue that there is no such thing but after witnessing some of the pros at work I would have to differ. The skill required for this game is quite imposing if you really think about it. Nevertheless, the perfect golf swing is attainable.

First of all we have to recognize that golf is a game that is as intellectual as it is physical. My husband describes it as a game of chess that involves gross motor skills. He has spent a lot of hours trying to develop the perfect swing but I think that his approach is all wrong.

Even though he recognizes the cognitive aspects of the game he seems to forget about them when he hits the golf ball. He also seems to think that the perfect swing is a complete myth that has been developed to torture golfers around the world.

Many people look to the perfect swing as a personification of the challenge. It is no longer an action, but a kind of Holy Grail for the golfing community.

It is important to recognize that the perfect swing is fundamentally an action. Sometimes thinking too much can actually have an adverse effect on your swing. Perhaps the best way to achieve the perfect swing is to quit obsessing over it.

When we think too much we hinder our own progress. Many golfers look at the game as a practice in control but this very quest for control might be what is keeping you from the elusive swing. You may find that part of the art of combining the mind and the body in the swing has a lot to do with letting go instead of controlling.

Other Handy Golf Tips:
1. Source any natural dietary supplements which will help to keep you fit and healthy and keep your body in good shape to play golf.
2. Develop complete confidence in yourself and your game – need to be tough-minded and totally focused when you play golf.
3. Learn all known golf bets so that you can bet to your advantage and apply psychological pressure on your opponents at opportune moments.

Improve Your Golf Drive Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Drive for show and putt for dough maybe sound advice, but if you ask the average weekend golfer whether they would like to putt like Brad Faxon, or regularly belt the ball like Tiger, most would opt for Tiger’s power off the tee.

It is this fascination with power in golf that prompt’s me to write this article, and provide a golf tip.

A couple of facts first, that were discovered two or three years ago, by the teaching profession in the USA. These were, that by using the golf swing, test robotic arm generating a clubhead speed of 100 mph, the golf ball, on average, would go around 265 yards.

However, if the clubface is opened by 2 degrees only, then the distance reached was only 225 yards, with the same clubhead speed. Again by opening up the face to 4 degrees, the distance covered was only 185 yards.

This shows that distance is not just about power, and clubhead speed, but also hitting the ball squarely with a nice golf swing. This may sound like common sense, however many golfers are trying to hit the ball with the incorrect golf swing.

So, what is the secret of achieving maximum power? My golf tip is this:-

Speed, can be increased, by setting the wrists into a cocked position early, and on the downswing keeping the wrists cocked for as late as possible, and then swishing through the ball. This is similar to flicking your wrists, when using a badminton, squash, or tennis racket.

Power, comes from having as full and flexible a body turn as possible, plus creating a wide arc. The powerful muscles of the legs will also help.

To generate maximum power, it is essential that the start of the downswing be calm and unhurried. This enables the golfer to build up speed, so that the golf club is still accelerating when it reaches the ball. Finally, ensure that the arms are fully extended through to a high finish.

A key point to note is that the hands control the position of the clubface, keeping it square at impact.

Golfers, who are inclined to hit at the ball with their hands rather than a nice even tempo golf swing through the ball, find that they lose a lot of power, and hence distance. Slow, smooth tempo wins every time. I recommend two excellent courses to improve you golfing within 2 weeks at: yx2.info/go/GolfSwing yx2.info/go/Break80

How to correct your Golf Slice Friday, November 6th, 2009

A slice is generally a miss-hit by most golfers. It is an unintentional shot, and the golf ball moves in a banana like shape, curving from left to right for right-handed golfers. The ball travels in such shape due to the open clubface and the swing angle of the stroke. This is the most discouraging instance for a golfer, but it happens to all of us. A few pointers that have to be kept in mind to correct your slice are

Position yourself: If you think you should stand more towards your left in order to avoid the ball being sliced, trust me, your are thinking wrong. You are going to put the ball into an even more complex rest. Your shoulders have to be set right, the hips should be correctly positioned and your feet have to in-line with your shoulders. During swing and hit action, your head has to be behind the ball till you release the ball from its position. Your hips and arms should be properly coordinated in order to eliminate the slice.

The swing: After you have set your posture, concentrate on the ball and on the cup. Conduct practice swings to loosen your wrist and get ready for the shot. Hit the ball from the interior of the path-line and drag the club with the ball for about 3-4 inches. This gives a perfect travel line for the ball to reach the cup/hole. Not dragging the club might give chances for the ball to take a small leap and change its direction, thereby causing a slice. For a straight, the swing should start from 0 degrees and the impact should be at an 80 degree angle from inside. This helps the ball to spin during its trajectory.

Positioning the club: Ensure that the distance between the ball and the club swing is about a club size and the club-head 4-5 inches away from the line of travel. The angle of the swing should be in angle with your golf club. Therefore, always use appropriate clubs for each stroke. The swing action should be from inside to the outside.

Hold and grip on the club: The position of your hands and fingers determine the intensity of the shot. Your thumb and index finger of both hands, should form a “v” shape and should be directing towards your right shoulders. It is opposite for left handed golfers. Place your right thumb and left hand on the shaft. Make sure your right palm is covering the left thumb. Here you have a perfect grip on the club. The grip on to the shaft should not be very tight. If your forearms swivel anti-clockwise to the shot, it means you have hit the right shot and avoided slice.

Remember, most slices are caused due to golfer’s swing from out to in. Important things to be kept in mind are position, grip and angle of swing. Practicing all the above tips, frequently, can help your get rid of those unintentional slices, causing you frustration in your game.

How To Succeed At Golf Pitching And Tips To Get Even Better Thursday, October 29th, 2009

There’s nothing worse than stuffing up what’s supposed to be one of the easiest shots in golf. Duffing a simple pitch shot can make even the best players lose their cool. It’s frustrating when you find yourself in a position to hit a close shot, only to see the ball fly over the green or watch it travel only half way to the flagstick.

Or even worse, watching in shock as the ball goes sideways — turning into the dreaded shank!

To help you with the problems of playing quality pitch shots, check for the following points that may indicate issues you need to work on and fix in your short game:

The Clubface Is Aligned Toward The Left Or The Right

An easy but common mistake made by many golfers. This can result in pulled or pushed shots or even shanks in the most extreme of cases. The best way to fix this problem is to ensure you have the golf club aligned straight first before you make any adjustments with your body.

What I’m saying is find and select your target line and aim your club at it first. Just be sure you are not in a hazard or a bunker. What you do is with your left hand hold the club face in line with your target and then align the rest of your body accordingly. This is one of the most important golf pitching tips you will ever learn.

Don’t rush this step because this may very well be all it takes to automatically improve your accuracy with golf pitching. Most often problems with accuracy can be traced back to the golfers set up.

Don’t Overlook The Change In Ball Position In Your Stance

There’s a good chance if you are hitting your pitch shots fat the golf ball is too far back in your stance, conversely if you are hitting your pitch shots skinny it is highly likely the golf ball is too far forward in your stance.

The first thing to do if any of the above is happening to you is to check the ball position. Ideally you want it somewhere in the middle of your stance to promote a consistent, straight solid golf shot.

Getting good at hitting pitch shots is not that difficult, just follow the golf pitching tips laid out in this article, and watch your pitch shots improve instantly.

The Pro Golf Swing Fundamentals Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

The basics are the same for everybody, the difference in body types and mentalities bring forth a number of differences in the game that can cause frustration for most beginners. As such, one must adapt to his/her body in learning how to perform the perfect golf swing. While the perfect golf swing is there, it is elusive as it is different for every golfer. Knowledge and practice are the keys to success in golf, and muscle memory is what you are trying to ingrain into yourself. Once you have a clean golf swing in your system, confidence in your game and calmness of mind shall follow.

Basic Golf Swing Principles

One of the most fundamental principles that can be applied for immediate improvement in the golf swing is to keep your head still and eyes on the ball. This will straighten your spine’s alignment and to aim at the ball properly. The spine is the axis that you are to swing with, so you have to keep yourself straight in order to achieve any positive result. Keep your head straight by raising your nose up and chin straight. Your left shoulder should be under your chin by the time you are to swing at the ball. Tucking your head into your chest is not a good way to go. The best way is to keep everything straight so that you can hit the ball smack bang in the center.

Keeping your head straight and with eyes on the ball will definitely help those who have constant challenges with their golf swings. The next step required is to consentrate on the correct position of knees and feet. The feet have to be planted onto the ground and the knees are to be straight while allowing pivoting to occur. Bend just a little bit forward at the waist and look right at the golf ball. Minimize rotation of the hip to prevent swaying and do not overdo your backswing. This way, your chin should hit your left shoulder upon swinging.

Prevent this happening by lifting your head a bit until your chin doesn’t hit your shoulder anymore. In this position, slowly do your backswing and downswing while staying focused on the ball. A practice swing is best done first before actually hitting the ball. Practice your golf swing by focusing on straightening your head and keeping your eyes on the ball.

Balance and position are the most crucial points of a golf swing, leading to consistency and great power. Another thing that needs to be focused on is relaxation. Relax! Being tense can only make one’s golf swing worse. By relaxing your body, you can maintain your balance and flow with the swing as smoothly as possible. Practice this while maintaining your position. Though this can be daunting at first, you can make things easier for yourself by breathing at a relaxed pace while maintaining the position without tensing your muscles.

Hold this position for around 20 seconds before doing your swing during practice. Keep your weight even on both feet and try to not tense. This is a good way to improve your golf swing.

How Not To Start Your Round Of Golf Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Do you warm-up before you play golf? More importantly do you warm-up correctly?

In all sports, it is essential that you warm up properly to attain the best performance. If you go to any professional or even amateur sporting event, you will see competing athletes doing pre-game warm-ups. Golfers, especially those in the professional level, are not different from them. When tour professionals are about to begin their first tee, they would have made full warm-ups to be able to make their best swings.

However, most amateurs have their “warm-ups” done by racing from their autos to the golf shop and check in, then dashing to their first tee, in just about five minutes. Most of the time, this is followed by an unsteady and inconsistent play for the first holes, ending up with another lackluster golf round. The result: Disappointing golf scores.

Here are some tips to improve your golf score:

1. First, go to the golf course as early as possible. You need time in taking care of your matters in the golf shop, in using the restroom, changing clothes and shoes, among others. It is crucial that you do not feel pressured or rushed, allowing you to get warmed up at a relaxed pace. Remember that your warm-up time sets your mood and tempo throughout the day, so just relax and move slowly. A minimum of an hour or two before you begin hitting your first tee would probably help you get a nice and relaxed warm-up.

2. Start your warm-up routine on the putting green. By starting your warm-up on the putting green, you will be ready for the speed of the greens. More importantly, you will start up your day with a nice, deliberate, and smooth tempo.

3. Spend about 10 minutes or so trying to hit the chips around the green using a tee as your target. First test the greens’ firmness to see how much or less the golf ball will roll. In general, the ball tends to move more on hard greens than the soft greens. In addition, there are various kinds of rough which make the ball move differently when it touches the green. Spending some time around the green helps you visualize some shots on the green during your round, and also, the spots where you are landing the golf ball on the putting surface.

4. Next spend about 20 minutes on the golf range. Make sure you properly stretch before hitting any golf balls. You want to start hitting half-wedge shots and progress up to your driver hitting 3 or 4 balls with each club. I personally start off with my sand-wedge, 9-iron, 7-iron, 5-iron, 3-iron, 3-wood, and then my driver, which turns out to be about 30 golf balls. Remember the reason for hitting golf balls is to get your body warmed up. You’re not there to practice your golf swing so don’t get a large bucket and pound out 100 golf balls before you play.

5. Next go back to the putting green and putt for 5 to 10 minutes. Take 3 balls and from 3 feet and hit them until you make 3 putts in a row. Repeat this from 6 feet and then from 10 feet. Don’t worry if you don’t make it through all the distances in the 10 minutes because the importance is getting your confidencence up on making putts.

Remember: If you do not get enough warm-up, you should not expect to have an optimal performance, and consequently, a good golf score. So do yourself a favor and make the warm-up a regular part of your golf game to give yourself the best possible outcome at the end of the day.

Some Warm Up Tips for Golfers Sunday, July 19th, 2009

When it’s time to warm up, some golfers think they need to hit the driving range with everything they’ve got. In truth, warming up to make your game as effective as it can be means that you work on a variety of swings and become familiar with the conditions.

For example, you golf differently on a windy day than if the air is still. You probably play at least a bit different on days when the temperature is raging than when it’s cool. Here are some tips from those who hit the courses on a regular basis.

Driving is a good way to start, but start slowly. Choose a short iron for your first few drives, giving your muscles a chance to loosen up and to get the feel for the day. Work up to longer drives, but remember that the goal isn’t only to see how far the ball will go – control is more important than distance and this is your chance to gather your skills to exercise that control.

Don’t just drive. Some people make the mistake of thinking they’ve completed an adequate warm up once they’ve managed to make a few successful drives. Take time for some chipping and putting as well. Make the most of your swing and any recent lessons you’ve had. Remember that a round of golf is much more than teeing off.

One of the most important warm up tips is to get your mood and emotions under control. Smacking your frustrations out on a golf ball probably isn’t going to help your game at all – though it might arguably be good for your frustrations. Take time to gather your calm, focus on your game and let the day’s troubles fall away. Your mood – especially if it’s a bad mood – can greatly impact your game.

Another mistake many people make at the warm up session is to start practicing. This isn’t the time to try out new clubs, new swings, or new information. This is a time to play your best game, just as you’ll be doing shortly – at the first tee. It’s okay to put in a few practice swings if you’re working on something you want to put into play for this game, but don’t get caught up in a practice session. One of the purposes of a warm up time is to build your confidence. You can’t do that if you’re continually making errors. Use the techniques you’re most familiar with and be ready to congratulate yourself on all your successes during the warm up.

If you are doubtful about the need for a good warm up period, just think back to a recent game of golf that you didn’t warm up for. How was your first tee? How was the fourth? Did you spend the rest of the game making up for some poor strokes early on? The warm up is a chance to make those mistakes before they’re being engraved on a score card.

Take time to make yourself confident and you’ll play a confident game.

Four Factors That Affect Your Golf Swing Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Every person has his or her own unique body with its own elasticity, strengths, and range of motion. No two individuals can ever have the same golf swing in the game of golf. Even if two people have nearly the same body type the way one person swings a golf club may differ totally from another person. All golfers must realize the playing style that suits them to get to the results they want to achieve.

There is one thing that can make golfers produce spontaneous and sure advancements on the green and that is an acknowledgement of the elements that influence the golf ball at the time of impact by the golf club. This understanding of the factors and how they influence the ball would guide you to know what takes place when the golf club hits the ball, and through that calculate the flight of the golf ball.

The best kind of impact is when the golf club sweet spot pelts the ball. It is dependent on the fusion of four factors which will ultimately decide towards what direction and to what length the ball will roll. Irrespective of how they happen, the golf ball will surely answer to these elements. These factors are as follows:

Factor 1

The most important factor that affects the swing of your golf is the angle of the face of the club at the time of touching the ball. The position of the face of the club at the time of hitting the ball is the first crucial factor because it affects the direction and movement of the ball at the beginning. You must hold the clubface towards the direction of the target you have selected down the golf course. The ball will move directly down to the course minus any spin if the clubface is held straight and perpendicular to the golf ball at the time of impact.

Factor 2

The second crucial element at the time of impact is the angle of the club head relative to the golf ball. There are two angles of impact, horizontal angle and vertical angle. These two angles are fused together to decide the first direction of the ball and the height of the flight path of the golf ball. How high the ball will fly is settled by the vertical angle of impact. You will lose the distance in your shot if it is either too high or too low. The first direction the ball will take is settled by the horizontal angle of impact.

Factor 3

Then again, the sweet spot of the ball must be hit by the clubface for the best impact. The sweet spot is the region on the golf club’s face that will shift the pressure of your golf swing to the golf ball. If the angle of the clubface and the club head at the time of impact is perfect, then shifting this pressure with all practical purposes will heighten its capacity to the fullest and carry the ball straight and a long distance down the course.

Factor 4

The club head at the moment of impact is the fourth and the last factor. The speed of the swing of your golf will decide how much force you shift to the golf ball and finally to what distance it will go when you impact it on the sweet spot. Muscles do not determine the power or the speed of the golf swing by themselves. Body flexibility and range of motion are other elements that affect how a golfer utilizes those muscles in making a even consistent swing.

Save $ with Golf Ball Used Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Golf s sometimes a frustrating game. Many have been known to lose their cool after hitting a ball into the rough, a sand trap or the water. Sometimes, the ball just seems to disappear. Tired of wasting all that money on golf balls that don’t seem to ever come back? Try investing in some of the used golf balls available online.

If you golf, chances are you’ve gone through your share of balls. They seem to get lost all the time, and the costs mount quickly. Even the best golfers routinely lose balls, and for the average duffer, these “misplaced” golf balls can quickly become an expensive addition to the golf outing.

Used golf balls that are in great condition and ready to play can be purchased in bulk over the internet. There are many companies that sell used balls, usually in dozens. Different companies have different grading systems but they are all relatively similar.

Most sites describe some sort of quality assurance sorting, so that the balls are graded. Balls are sorted into various categories and sold by the dozen.

Top grade used golf balls are often called Grade A or Grade 1, one or two sites listed them as Grade AAA. They are usually described as like new. Many customers have commented that these balls are often indistinguishable from the new ones, and can be subsequently lost just as quickly as those right out of the sleeve. These are usually described as near perfect with a slight blemish or mark.

Slightly less perfect balls are Grade B or Grade 2. These have more than one mark, but play like new. Accordingly, the price is a bit less than the near perfect ones.

Finally, there is a third grade called Grade C or 3. Occasionally the site will go ahead and call them range balls. These balls are more used, with several marks and blemishes, but would be suitable for range play or practice rounds. These are even less expensive than the others.

Make sure that your site specifies that there are no “X out” or manufacturer rejects. You should be receiving slightly used, but good balls. Also, you may want to inquire if the site you have chosen allows water balls. I’d avoid these if possible.

Check with your local golf club as well. Sometimes local clubs hold sales of used balls to clear their inventories as well. You may be able to buy back some of the balls you lost last season!

Finally, compare price and shipping costs on your used golf balls. Most shipping charges seem to run between $5.95 per dozen and $7.95 per dozen, but verify in advance. You should also be able to get a significant shipping discount for orders of more than one dozen.

Shopping for used golf balls can be a great way to cut the expenses of your golfing habit. Before you hit the links, try purchasing some practice balls you won’t mind losing!
