Golf Apparel – It’s All About Good Golf Etiquette Friday, February 5th, 2010

When playing golf, there are many rules. It isn’t juat a matter of turning up to a golf course, playing a round of golf and then going home. You have to show good golf etiquette to be able to fit in with your surroundings and also to be allowed to play at the golf club.

One of the many rules of etiquette on the links is for each golfer to wear the proper golf apparel. This is one of the most important rules on the golf course. Following a strict dress code on the golf course, is something that most golf clubs and courses, even the public ones, require the golfers to do. Probably the most popular rule is the one of requesting that the golfers wear a collared shirt, although many courses also require long pants to be worn – not jeans of course – and proper golf shoes.

The primary rule of etiquette when actually hitting the links, is to show up on schedule for your tee time. It is important to be considerate of others and for you to not arrive a few minutes before tee off, still wanting to have a few practice swings on the driving range. Give yourself plenty of time, along with practice time, you will also need to find somewhere to park your car, purchase your golf balls, get changed into the correct golf apparel and collect your cart.

Cell-phones are also a big no no. Cell-phones are not part of the correct golf apparel and this should be considered before setting off on the course. They should either be left behind in your car or locker or if absolutely neccessary and needed for emergencies, should be kept in your bag, turned off.

Be sure that, when you are out on the golf course, you have a good understanding of the rules by which the other golfers want to play. Know, in advance, whether they honor the preceding holes score, for insance, by letting the golfer with the best score tee off on the next hole, or do they let whoever is ready to tee off, go first? It is possible, if you aren’t careful, ot offend strangers, if you have decided to join their group when you play, by not playing to their rules.

Along with the plaid pants, sweater vests, flat caps and other stereotypical golf apparel, golfers are also best known for their obsession with silence on the golf course. This does, however, make sense when you are concentrating into putting everything into your swing to hit a tiny ball with a long nearrow stick. Silence is a must!

So, even if you are just playing a round of golf with your friends, make sure to observe the basic rule of keeping quiet during shots and not to stand in the shooters direct line of vision.

Follow the rules, treat others on the course as you would like to be treated and have a great enjoyable game.

Solar Powered Golf Carts

The green revolution is finally here.

What is more appropriate than golf carts going green. The installation of Solar panels on golf cars can be great statement on the environment for Golf Courses.

Golf Carts have already evolved into the Green Revolution before the green revolution even started. Electric Golf Carts have been around for quite some time so they are already a green transportation vehicle. But they are limited.

You obviously must plug them in …. or do you?

Presenting the newest addition to the Electric Golf Cart!

Solar Peel and Stick Tops

The first adaptation of a Solar Top for Golf Carts was a traditional Glass Top which has many drawbacks. Just thing about it Flying Golf Balls and Glass is not a great combination. Glass Solar Tops are also very heavy. Although the idea was very innovative it was less than practical.

The new Peel and Stick Solar Golf Cart Tops have all of the following features:

*Is easy to apply

* Saves money on electricity

* The payback for investing in a golf cart solar panel roof can be as little as two years

* Uses revolutionary flexible solar panels made with thin film amorphous silicon that are powerful, yet light and flexible

* Allows individuals to save even more money with tax credits for purchasing solar

* For every hour the golf cart solar panel roof is charging in peak sun, the original charge will maintain its distance, with one additional mile added when driving on flat terrain

* Can be used on any passenger size golf cart

* Installs in minutes on existing golf cart tops

* In most cases, can be applied permanently to your existing golf cart top

Your typical electric golf cart has batteries that are charged while it is plugged in but while you are using the electric golf cart the power is in a constant state of being drained and will eventually run out until the next charge. With the addition of a solar panel you can expect to increase the time between charges by 50%. The greatest benefit to the solar golf cart top is that your batteries are in a constant state of charging which extends the range of your golf cart and also increases the life of your batteries. Our Solar Golf Cart tops can be used on Club Car, EzGo and Yamaha golf carts.

Solar Powered Golf Carts have been known to run day after day without ever plugging them in. Due to the fact that the batteries are always maintained at a peak charge it increases the life of the batteries.

As of January 1, 2006, an investment tax credit for utilizing solar went into effect. IRS form 3468 line 2b allows for a 30% tax credit for investing in solar. The solar panel and the batteries are all part of a solar system on the vehicle.

Get more information on Tax Incentives here:
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f3468.pdf

Also some states will allow additional tax credits and sales tax exemptions such as California, Arizona, and Florida.

Please check with you local state

Federal tax credit of 30% for utilizing solar is in effect.
Visit www.dsireusa.org for constant updates on State and Federal Incentives.

So when you consider all of the benefits of installing solar power on your electric cart it really is a no brainier.

Visualizing Whilst on the Golf Course – Part 1 Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

How can you build visualization into your playing routine? Most golfers have a pre shot routine in terms of waggling the club or practice swings, yet fewer have a mental routine to match. This is a great shame, because the mental routine is the most important. Everything in life starts with a thought. You have to think straight if you want the golf ball to go straight, so to speak. You have to plan the golf shot mentally before you can transmit this information to the clubface. Or put another way, how can you impart the right information from the clubface to the golf ball if you are unclear about your shot?

You may think that you are clear about the shot – that you want to hit the golf ball down the fairway. But let us draw a comparison here. Golf balls know nothing, they don’t have minds and they don’t have prior knowledge. If a stranger to your town asked for directions how would you reply? Presumably the answer would be detailed, and you might even use gestures to help make the directions easier to follow. You may even get pen and paper out and draw a map. Unless you took the time to explain the directions fully and precisely that stranger is likely to get lost. The same thing happens to golf balls.

I’m not joking. This is what actually happens. Unless you want your golf balls to take a different route to the one which you desire (and end up getting themselves lost), you need to have clear and precise intent when taking your shot. You need to mentally plan the golf shot, and picturing the desired outcome is all important. A picture is worth a thousand words. Picture the shot, the distance, direction, trajectory, spin; See the ball landing and coming to a stop. Then take the shot. By doing this, the golf ball, like the stranger in your town, stands a far better chance of reaching the desired destination.

It only takes a couple of seconds to visualize your shot and all you need to do is to build this into your pre shot routine. To make it into a habit, you need to do it consistently; Visualize EVERY shot before you take it, not just putts or tee shots, EVERY shot. It won’t take long before this type of visualization is so habitual that it’s impossible to hit a shot without doing it. It will become as automatic as brushing your teeth morning and night.

Mental skills are a part of the game of golf which you can practice easily from your armchair when conditions are inclement outside, and also when its sunny. Don’t forget that every time you vividly imagine a perfect shot your brain doesn’t know the difference between that and a real shot and so every time you visualize great shots you are strengthening the neural pathways in your brain which create an expectation of achieving the perfect outcome. There is no excuse for being “bored”; Even when you’re in the check out queue in Safeway you can be visualizing great golf shots.

Stand Golf Bags To Save Your Back and Clubs Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Stand golf bags have retractable legs, normally in the form of a tripod, which actuate when the golf bag is set down, and allow the bad to stand up at an angle. This allows the bag and clubs to be more easily accessible than if they were lying on the round. It also keeps the bag and your clubs clean and dry in wet or muddy conditions.

Golf Bags With Stands Save Time

If you carry the bag around the course with you, rather than use a buggy or golf cart, then you should consider one of the many designs of stand golf bags which are available. Without the stand, you would have to drop your bag onto the ground and rummage around in the bag to find your selection of club, You would also have to hunt around for the pocket containing your tees and spare golf balls.

With these types of golf bags, on the other hand, the bag is standing up at an angle on spring loaded legs. The clubs are normally held in separate tubes for easy choice and access, and you can easily find your tees and the rest. Not only that, but you avoid the necessity on every shot to drop your bag, bend down to select your club, bend down to replace your club, then pick up your bag. Depending on how good (or bad) you are, you could be doing this up to a hundred times a round! Just think of what that will be doing to your back!

They are Good for Your Back

In fact, if you have a temporary condition with your back, and do not want to go to the expense of a golf cart and cart bag, then a golf bag with a stand could be ideal for you. Everything you get in carry bags you also get in a stand golf bags, including covers, carry options such as carry cases and carry covers to protect your bag and golf clubs in your truck or from normal handling stresses in airports.

Golf bags using a stand are also customizable with the range of colors, designs, logos, etc, that are available for any other kind of golf bags. They can carry anything from a half set to a full set of 14 clubs, and have a separate putter tube for easy access, a full set of pockets and clips for an umbrella.

If you are looking for a carry bag that will save you a bit of bending and searching, and keep your golfing equipment clean, you could do worse than making your choice from the range of stand golf bags available on the market today.

A Little History About Golf Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

The history of golf is a debate as to whether the game was invented by the Chinese, the Dutch, or the Scottish. A game somewhat similar to golf was first mentioned in Dongxuan Records which is a Chinese book of the Eleventh Century. It was also mentioned in the year 1297 in the Netherlands where the Dutch played a game with a stick and a leather ball. Whoever hit the ball in a target several hundreds of meters away the least number of times, won.

However, the Scots are generally adamant that the game of golf was a Scottish invention on St. Andrews golf course. The name “golf” is a derivative of the Dutch word “kolf” however, so as for who really invented the game, we say who really cares!

It really doesn’t matter who actually invented the game, but what does matter is how the history of golf has evolved over the years. Golf courses have not always had eighteen holes. St. Andrews began with eleven holes dictated by the topography of the land the course was located on. Players would play the eleven holes out and then back in to total 22 holes. Later, several of the holes were deemed too short and were combined with each other. That reduced the number from 11 down to 9 so a complete round of golf was comprised of 18 holes.

By 1744, the game of golf had become wildly popular. So much so that a group of men called Gentlemen Golfers decided that a set of rules must be laid out for fair play. They came up with a list of thirteen guidelines on playing the game.

Major changes since the 19th century have occurred in the equipment needed for play. Better mowers made greens easier to play on. Golf balls designs would evolve by using rubber and man-made materials which made the ball fly longer on a drive. The wooden golf tee would make the drive easier.

No discussion of golf history would be complete without talking about the advances made in golf clubs. Metal shafts came about in the 1930s and most drivers were made of wood which is why they are called woods today even though they are most commonly made these days of metal or titanium. The golf shaft design has also gravitated towards graphite which is lighter and makes the club easier to swing.

When referring to the history of golf, we can debate exactly where the game originated, but the game of golf as we know it today, most certainly came about in Scotland. Even if we’re wrong, we do still have this wonderful game – and most of us are very glad about that!

Have You Ever Noticed The Differences In Golf Balls Monday, January 11th, 2010

Finding the right ball for you is about spin, feel, distance, and price.

Just like golf clubs, golf balls must fit the golfer, and as with clubs, you must match the golf ball that best complements your specific swing and style of play.

Golf balls, although not inexpensive, are affordable enough to allow a degree of experimentation. You should try different brands and types of balls before settling on one.

Distance and Spin Today’s golf ball is about getting the 2 basic factors of distance and spin correct.

The trajectory (launch angle), provides the distance, and the spin provides better control of the golf ball.

Launch or trajectory angle is determined firstly by the driver, and then next by the golf ball.

If you already drive the ball long and accurate, perhaps the spin and feel of the ball around the green is more important.

Some top golfers will fit the golf ball, from the spin and feel of a ball around the green, back to the driver. Others will go from distance with a driver down to the wedge.

There are tracking devices used by professionals and ball manufacturers that track the flight and launch angle of the ball. The higher the COR of a ball , the higher the velocity this gives, but with a much lower feel to the ball

So what should you be looking for to get more distance through a better launch angle?

If you have, a low hand speed, then a ball that has high spin would give more optimum lift, hence more distance.

Conversely, a. higher hand speed would be better with a low spin.

Of course a downside to the higher spin ball, is that if you hit it incorrectly, then you will also put on the ball more side spin and the ball could go further off to the right or left of centre!

Feel It is the core that determines the compression and the hardness or softness of the ball. The outer cover will determine the durability and spin.

The old balata balls gave lots of spin and a good feel, but were less good for ball flight, or durability.

The Top-Flite Strata golf ball, introduced in the mid-1990’s, produced the first 3 piece ball.. It merged a high-spinning, soft-feeling Tour Balata type of ball, with the low-spinning, long-flying, and durable Pinnacle or distance ball.

This remarkable three-piece ball, was, indeed, two balls in one: It was a long-flying/low-spinning distance ball off the tee, and a high-spinning control ball off the irons.

They achieved this by adding a soft polyurethane cover on what was virtually a Top-Flite distance ball, and then adding a thin middle or mantle layer that encased the ball’s already large and solid rubber core.

A few years later, balls such as Titleist’s ProVI, Maxfli’s M3 Tour, Callaway’s Rule 35, Nike’s TA2 (both the Long and Spin models), and others, including new balls from Strata, improved on Strata’s original breakthrough, by improving the durability of their urethane outer covers and making them thinner and firmer for added distance.

At the same time, advances in rubber systems allowed ball makers to design cores that were more energetic or “faster,” for even more distance on shots hit with the longer clubs, while maintaining a nice soft feel.

Tour balls today, can provide good distance, durability and spin, but at a price.

What is best for you? If you have a high hand speed, then a higher compression ball, like a ‘DT’ ball, maybe better. With a slower hand speed, a lower compression ball like the ‘Maxfli noodle’ would probably suit. (I am not a representative of either golf ball manufacturer).

The manufacturer, today, can make a ball with a large rubber centre that feels soft like the low-compression balls of years past, but flies far with a lot of initial ball speed like the old high-compression balls.

Therefore, it is wise now to read what it says on the box, and try them out. You will be amazed at how different balls react.

Price Tour golf balls are still the best, but are a high price to pay.

Perhaps a happy medium is the mid-price range, which will provide good spin or distance characteristics, without having to pay through the nose. Plus if you lose those golf balls, then maybe you won’t need to spend as long looking for them.

Be honest with yourself, what is the ideal for you, is it distance or feel, or a happy medium all round.

Good luck in your ball fitting.

Guaranteed Basic Golf Swing Tips To Improve Your Game! Monday, January 11th, 2010

I can remember the first time I ventured out onto a golf course and tried to hit the cover off the ball on the first tee. My memory of that inauspicious debut was a skewed shot which disappeared into the bushes to the right and became just another lost ball statistic. My basic golf swing technique for starters was crappy but more importantly, I didn’t really understand the mechanics of the golf swing.

The end result of that very first game was a large triple figure score and about fifteen golf balls which never saw the light of day again. Oh, I can laugh about it now but if you want to know what epitomised embarrassment I’m here to tell you it was yours truly on that fateful day.

Can you as a novice draw similar comparisons? Well, if you haven’t mastered the basic golf swing yet and you plan on improving your driving, chipping and putting then read the rest of this article.

Physics And The Basic Golf Swing

Before you can even think about using brute strength in you swing you need to understand golf isn’t really a game about power. It’s more timing and that’s why it’s a good idea to examine your clubs closely. Notice how each one is designed just a little differently than the other. The three iron has a more flatter blade than the nine iron. The three iron is designed for hitting the ball longer distances while the nine iron is designed for more up and under.

Getting into the habit of using the appropriate club for the appropriate play will get you forming good basic golf swing habits. It’s a similar story with the driving woods. In most cases, you’ll have a selection to choose from. I have four and my favorite is the fairway wood. It’s designed to be used as the follow up to the tee shot on a long range hole and used correctly, is very effective in getting a clean, crisp shot away without forcing the shot with unnecessary power.

Golf Exercise

Believe it or not, one of the keys to maintaining a good basic golf swing is fitness, or being golf fit if you like. Identifying your golfing muscles is important and if you are not sure, ask an experienced golfer. No, it doesn’t mean you need to spend five days in a gym building up to Mr. Universe levels. Simple golf stretch exercises; some involving use of a club and others just basic body stretches. You’ll be surprised how effective muscle conditioning will help your basic golf swing movement.

Enlisting the services of a short term coach is a great way to learn the basic skills. It’s like building a house; get the foundation right and you have something to build on. A coach will quickly pin point your problem areas and address them quickly. Ask at your favorite clubhouse the next time you’re there.

The basic golf swing in many ways is like a player’s “holy grail.” Once it’s mastered, you can then plan for bigger and better things, including the odd power drive off the tee!

The Secret To A Better Golf Game Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

A better golf game is achievable by any golfer. It doesn’t matter what your age is, how good a player you are or how long you’ve been playing. But the key to a better golf game may not be what you think.

The ’standard’ approach to a better golf game is taking lessons; buying more equipment; and hitting hundreds of golf balls at the range.

Although, the above approach is not altogether incorrect, there is one crucial missing element. That element is your BODY! You swing those fancy clubs; you hit all those balls at the range; and you physically participate in the aspect of taking lessons.

The common denominator is your body. Do you agree? If you don’t, I’d like to hear you’re explanation of why not.

If you are following me, and think I’m remotely correct, then why wouldn’t you work on your body to play a better golf game?

I’m constantly hearing golfers say they’ve taken lessons, bought new equipment and pounded hundreds of balls but still have not seen improvement.

That’s the telltale!

That leaves just one thing. YOU.

Don’t get me wrong, I firmly believe you need an understanding of golf swing technique, and golf equipment can help. But pounding balls just for the sake of doing it won’t help you play a better golf game.

Now picture this.

You do a few simple stretches and golf exercises daily and go out to play. You now realize you can make a bigger backswing with less tension; you have more clubhead speed enabling you to hit longer drives; and you are not worn out on the back nine.

Isn’t that worth the minimal investment in your time?

To play a better golf game you’ve got to take a different approach than what you are currently doing. One that gets to the root of the problem. The one that’s causing those mishits and inconsistencies.

You will be amazed at your outcome if you take this approach. You will finally play a better golf game.

And finally, we come full circle. Be patient with yourself and spend time practicing. If you do, you’ll realize the wonderful rewards that the game of golf returns in a much sooner fashion.

Tips:
1. Source any natural dietary supplements which will help to keep you fit and healthy and keep your body in good shape to play golf.
2. Develop complete confidence in yourself and your game – need to be tough-minded and totally focused when you play golf.
3. Learn all known golf bets so that you can bet to your advantage and apply psychological pressure on your opponents at opportune moments.

Favor Ideas for Your Golf Party Saturday, December 26th, 2009

If most of your friends, acquaintances, and associates love golf, then you may be interested to look at golf party favors for the next time when you will have a gathering for a festive occasion. Golf-lovers will surely love the array of party favors that are designed to cater to their particular taste. In fact, the next festive occasion you have may even be a golf party, in which case, it is even more important for you to know what your selections are.

Party favors that you can give away include personal items such as key chains, pens, or cups. You can also give out favors in the form of cutlery that your golf buddies can use as eating implements. Your invitation, in itself, can also serve as a favor. You can use golf balls to write out your invitation and to also serve as your token of remembrance and thanks to your guests for coming. A sun visor can also be a wonderful favor for your guests.

On the other hand, golf favors are not just confined to those parties which are held as a picnic or as an outing. It can also be used on occasions such as a wedding, for instance. If the couple happens to have golf as a common interest, then guests have to be prepared for the likelihood of receiving a golf related favor. This will be a statement of their common passion for this type of sport which may also even be part of their bond with each other.

Objects that are used for playing golf can be given away as favors. It may also have an added value as some of your guests proceed to use it on the course. A tee matchbook is one of those things as is a ball marker. You can also go ahead and give out golf balls. Golf balls can come in pairs – a ‘he and she’ pairing of golf balls can be ideal for your friends who have partners of their own. You can also add personalized tags to these golf balls. You can also give them out in a variety of colors. Another object that falls under this category is the divot fixer.

You can also add photos to your golf party favors in order to leave a more memorable mark on the occasion. Of course, this may already be on the high end for some people but if you wish, you may find this service offered for an affordable price.

Party favors are not limited to memorabilia. You can also give your guests chocolate golf party favors. You could have chocolate or candy party favors for your guests to enjoy, one which kids will really enjoy.

One idea is to convert it into a charitable party favor. Instead of the usual material favors that you give out to your friends, you can go ahead and donate to a charitable organization. The help itself will be your favor and will go a long way towards helping other people.

Making Golf Childs Play Monday, December 21st, 2009

I am sure that you have heard the following mantra for life – what the mind can perceive, the mind can believe, and the mind can achieve. Have you noticed how true this is? What is in your mind, your thoughts, your memories, and the things you know to be “right” are simply your own perceptions of reality.

You and I could be standing at a junction and you see the traffic light is red and I see it to be green. It all depends upon the angle from which you are observing the lights. It depends on your perspective. You could, of course, choose to walk to the other side and view it from a different angle.

I would like you to take one minute now to carry out a simple task. Wherever you are at this moment in time, take one minute to look around you and notice, really notice, what around you is the colour blue. Notice as many things that you can that contain the color blue. Spend a full minute really noticing everything that is blue…and then read on.

Now, without looking around again, can you list what is the color red? This simple exercise should demonstrate what happens in everybody’s mind ALL of the time. Our observations and the judgments which we make of “reality” are shaped and colored by what we are focusing on, by what we expect to see or happen. Thus our perceptions are not only shaped by the angle of observation but also by our expectation, our underlying beliefs – we see what we expect to see. This is true of everything in life, not just golf. But in golf the effect is so very noticeable!

As Kendal McWade, the genius behind Instinctive Golf, states “Golf balls always do what they are told”. Now, if you are telling yourself that you are a bad putter, what are you telling the ball to do? Putting can so ably demonstrate the doubt and fear that holds us back in everyday life – emotions which can literally stop us in our tracks.

A child is not born with fear. We learn fear. Sometimes fear is a useful emotion and protects us from danger, but let’s face it, a putt shouldn’t be fearful. Even Tiger says that when he was a teenager he would hit the first putt so solidly that if it missed it might go five feet past the hole, and would simply rap it back into the hole without worry or fear…but that as he has got older he isn’t quite as fearless. Fears can creep into even the strongest of minds…if you allow them to do so.

So how do we remove fear when it’s not needed? How can we change state easily and quickly? Awareness is all important. Most of us are not really aware of the thoughts that are running through our minds. And yet your thoughts create your emotions and direct your actions (and the club and the ball). Let us try another exercise. Stop reading and spend the next minute just observing your thoughts. Notice just how many thoughts pass through your mind in one minute.

How many did you have? I bet there were quite a few. How many thoughts do you have in the very short time in which you swing a golf club? Or, more precicely, how many thoughts do you try to have whilst swinging the club? And how many thoughts run through your mind as you are setting up to the ball, be it for a tee shot or for a putt? Five, ten, fifteen?

Once you become aware of these myriad thoughts, it is easy to understand why the outcome of the shot can be unpredictable to say the least. All of those thoughts can be likened to ants running through your mind, each competing for your attention and focus, thereby taking your awareness away from what really matters – the ball and the target. These two things never change; or, at least, they shouldn’t change, assuming you have taken the time to select an exact target.

So the question is “how do we stop these ant-like thoughts from crawling all over our minds?” Cast your mind back to when you were a child and the answer should come to you quite easily. Children’s emotions change quick as a flash, crying one moment and laughing the next. They change state easily, quickly, INSTANTANEOUSLY; you and I were born with this ability; it’s an instinctive part of us. When a child falls over and scrapes their knees, they cry, and what does the parent do? The adult offers a sweet, they DISTRACT their attention away from the knees that are hurting.

The easiest way in which to displace a negative thought (or a selection of negative thoughts which are competing for your attention) is to give your mind something clear and precise to do. Give your mind something meaningful, interesting and relevant to do, something that is fascinating.

Fear is a function of either the past or the future. Fear does not exist if you are focusing on the now. Think about that for a moment. What are you afraid of on the golf course? The putt not rolling in? That’s in the future. The memory of the last shot sailing into the trees? That’s in the past. Making a fool of yourself? That’s in the future.

So when you are approaching a shot on the golf course, allow the “child” in you to surface – the part of you that’s fascinated, curious, the part of you that’s “in the now”. I was playing with a friend the other day and when we reached the green and saw where my ball was I said something to the effect of “oh, wow! This is an interesting one!” My playing partner’s response was “is that a new reframe for “Oh Hell?”!

Try it…and notice the effect. Because if you are “in the now” you will be aware of what you need to be aware of – the ball and the target. And if you are sizing up the situation with child-like wonder and fascination, you will be thinking “how can I get this in” or something to that effect, rather than being a puppet manipulated by A-N-Ts (Automatic Negative Thoughts).

Being “in the now” is a wonderful place to be. It allows you to be aware of what is really happening around you, to appreciate each moment for what it is. It allows you to notice when a rhododendron leaf glistens in the sunshine, or water sparkling as if thousands of stars are twinkling on its surface, and so on. It allows you to notice the feel of the fairway beneath your feet, the feel of the club in your hands, to notice the feel of your swing. (And wouldn’t greater feel come in handy?) Being in the now allows you to enjoy the time between shots, remaining relaxed and peaceful; it allows you to fully enjoy the game of golf, AND the game of life. If you aren’t in the now, you aren’t really living.

Another wonderful thing about being in the now is that you reap the rewards immediately – literally in the now. So many people say that it is impossible to change without hard work and effort. What can be hard about noticing what’s happening now? What can be hard when you are interested and curious and fascinated? When you are in the now, past beliefs cannot hold you back.

Are you ready to control your golfing destiny? Are you ready to make a commitment to yourself to play golf “in the now”? Are you willing to allow the natural instinct for wonder and fascination to come to the forefront of your mind? Are you ready to enjoy your golf and play better golf than ever before? Because you are the only person who can choose your thoughts. All you have to do is to choose to do so.

Learn The Secrets Of Buying The Perfect Golf Gift Saturday, December 19th, 2009

On that special someone’s birthday, it’s so hard to find the perfect present. Is your husband or boyfriend madly keen on his golf? What about a golf gift of some sort. There are literally hundreds of possible golf gifts to choose from and all of them I’m sure he’ll love. You really can’t go wrong buying your partner a golf gift, as long as you already know they’re mad about golf that is? This article will describe a couple of the main types of golf gifts and what they are used for.

Golf Gift Number One – Golf Clubs

Of course no golfer is complete without a good set of clubs and if you know your partner’s looking into buying a new set of clubs because the old ones are completely out of date, than why not get him a new set? First of all there’s some things you need to know first before you decide to buy a set. There are almost too many brands on the market to choose from so you have to make sure you get the right set. First of all check to see what brand of clubs he already has. This will give you a clear indication that he likes that brand. All you have to do is get an up to date set for him of the same brand.

If he doesn’t have a set of clubs already then you going to have to make a decision on how what type of clubs you want to buy him. You can easily spend over $1000 on a set of clubs, but if you don’t want to pay that much then there are lots of brand out there that sell great quality clubs for half that price. If you know your husband doesn’t care about brands then this option is the best one.

Golf Gift Number Two – Golf Gift Set

Golf gift sets are comprised of a whole bunch of golfing equipment such as golf balls, tees, gloves shirts and other apparel all combined into one package. Depending on the brand of gear in each set, pricing can range from $50 to $300. The reason why you can’t got wrong with this particular gift is because it contains all the essentials for a keen golfer. As far as he’s concerned, you can never have enough, tees and balls. You can be certain that this particular golf gift will be welcome with open arms and he’s going to love you for it.

So if you are sure that all he wants for his birthday or Christmas is a golf gift, then going for these two particular presents is a great idea and you can be rest assured that he’s going to be happy!

Is Your Golf Up To Scratch? – Part 2 Monday, December 7th, 2009

Let’s see how we can apply this technique throughout your game. OK, you’re standing on the first tee, choosing your line and there’s a persistent thought of “don’t hook it into the trees”. What usually happens when you’re thinking this? Yes…golf balls always do what they are told; you are thinking about hooking into the trees and you do exactly that. Yes, I know, I can hear you saying “BUT I thought DON’T hook into the trees”. Your inner mind does not pay any attention to the “don’ts” of this world.

Whatever you are thinking about you are giving energy to, and energy is transmitted out into the atmosphere and attracts exactly what you are thinking about into your life. This is the law of attraction. Put another way, as you are thinking “Don’t hook it into the trees” you are at the same time inadvertently creating a picture in your mind of the ball going into the trees and also attaching a lot of energy to that picture because you feel a bit agitated about it; and so the ball goes into the trees. In fact, the ball went exactly where you inadvertently planned for it to go. This is how talented your mind is. If you ever doubted the fact that 90% of golf is played in the mind, this phenomenon is undeniable proof!

What can you do to stop this happening? You can recognize that you are thinking about hooking into the trees, create a picture of it intentionally, then move that picture to one side, shrink it, drain the color out, crumple it up and put it in the bin; and then, create a big, bright, clear picture in your mind’s eye of the golf ball landing where you want it to, sitting up nicely on the fairway.

You can also use this technique of “binning the negatives” when you have played a less than perfect shot or missed a putt. Create a picture of it and bin it. Then re-run in your mind’s eye the perfect shot, or the perfect putt. This is a great post-shot routine to adopt, and extremely effective, because your mind will only be recording good golf shots, thereby making the likelihood of great shots more compelling, whilst at the same time literally erasing poor shots from your mind. Thus your golfing confidence builds more quickly and easily than ever, and as the title of Dr Bob Rotella’s book states “Golf is a game of confidence”.

Getting back to your New Golf Season’s resolutions and making them probable instead of possible, you should now have a clear, in-focus, bright and compelling picture of you achieving your golfing goals. This is vitally important because whatever you imagine you can create. The next question to ask is what do you need to do to get to that point? What do you need to do physically and also mentally? From a mental perspective, the consistent application of the “binning the negatives” technique will transform your game, not to mention your life in general. You will be focusing on what you want to happen, rather than what you don’t. You will be aware of choosing where you want the golf ball to go and intentionally sending it there. You will now be in control of your thoughts and their resultant effect on the golf ball.

It’s also worth examining your thought processes whenever a shot doesn’t quite work out. Ask yourself were you thinking clearly and precisely? Did you picture what you wanted? Or was your focus drifting off at a tangent? Or did you simply stand up to the ball and hit it without planning? Or did you stand over the ball for ages with a myriad of thought competing for your attention? I’ll wager a bet that 90% of your “bad” shots are caused by “bad” thoughts. Check this out for yourself. If your own statistics reflect this percentage, then it follows that you have the ability, you have the talent, to hit this percentage of your “bad” shots perfectly simply by being aware of your thoughts and choosing to think clearly. That’s got to be an easier way to get your handicap down than changing your swing, don’t you agree?

Your subconscious mind will always work towards a goal that has been visualized in your mind’s eye. Your energy is being directed towards it, whether that goal is long term (as in your New Golf Season’s Resolution) or short term (your next shot). You have the ability to use your mind to achieve your golfing goals easily and effortlessly. You also have to plan in a physical sense towards your goal; you’re not going to improve without playing, so you have to put the time in as well. You’ll not put time in unless you find that its fun, so make sure that it is fun.

Golf is a game, it’s meant to be enjoyed. You, and nobody else, are the creator of your destiny and the master of your golf game, so long as you choose to be. You will find that hypnosis downloads or golf hypnosis cds will help you immensely in mastering your golfing mind and taking control of your destiny.

Learn How To Compare Different Type Of Golf Balls Friday, December 4th, 2009

If peak performance is what you are after then you need to learn how to do a proper golf ball comparison. Just like choosing the right golf clubs, picking the correct ball for you is just a matter of matching the different types of balls with your swing and how you play golf. Golf balls are all the same, aren’t they? They may be small, but they are one of the most engineered pieces of golfing equipment.

Have you ever taken a really close look at a golf ball? They have different feels, different densities and different spins esulting in a different action, depending on how you play the game. To get the best out of your game and your golf ball, you need to match each section of the golf ball with your level of skill and style,

First off, you need to chose the correct golf ball compression. The compression is the measurement of how tightly wound the ball is. Depending on your swing speed, depends on how the compression comes into play. If you’re swing speed is quite slow, then you will want a lower compression. Therefore, the faster the speed, the higher the golf ball compression that you will need.

In total, the compression ratings are broken down into three seperate groups.

The first group is the 80 compression golf balls. They tend to be the softest and produce what essentially results in a sling shot effect when they are hit. They fly farther after being hit but they are much hard to control and hit accurately. They are the most popular type of golf ball amongst women, senior and junior players for their distance alone.

The next group is the 90 compression rating golf balls. Due to their middle of the road standing, soft enough to provide good distance on a slower swing but hard enough to provide a good degree of control, these are a good match for most male players in a golf ball comparison. They also prove to be a great choice for the more advanced female players.

The final group is the 100 compression rating golf balls. Fast swing speeds are needed for top performance due to these being the hardest balls. These type of balls are most popular amongest the low handicap and scratch players due to the faster swing speeds and the higher level of control.

Of course the only real way for you to know which is the best fit golf ball compression for your game is to do your own golf ball comparison. So, why not take a few of each of the golf ball compressions out to the driving range and find out which ones work best for you.

Visiting The Golf Store Monday, November 23rd, 2009

With an increasing market of high-end retailers selling golf equipment, one could possibly miss a “real” golf store.

Typically, golf stores have the latest, if not the best, golf equipment and accessories needed by somebody who plays golf. Things could range from golf clubs to golf balls, to even posters, shirts, and wallpaper.

Most golf stores focus on ensuring the proper equipment for the interested golfer. They will provide hints on how to choose the right club and the appropriate golf ball. Golf stores do not only supply things relative to golf but some also offer services and knowledge about the sport itself.

Additional services could include club repair, club fitting, and swing analysis. Most of these golf stores use the True Temper Shaftlab and Achiever Launch Monitor swing analysis. These machines measure everything, from ball speed, club head speed to carry distance. They also provide printouts illustrating extreme deflection, shaft loading, downswing time and face angle.

Also, there are other golf stores that offer golf classes being thought by local pros. Golf tutorials can also be offered for juniors along with women’s clinics on the sport.

Golf collectors will find many interesting items in a golf store as well. Hobbyist may find collector items like golf balls used by some of the world’s most renowned players. Signed items may be available too.

Plus, there are golf stores that offer unusual golf gifts. These things range from the most common to the most creative golf gifts one could get for just about any occasion.

Most golf storeowners are actually golfers themselves. Usually, they put up a golf store after retiring from playing golf. Like most businessmen assert, it’s good to be passionate about what you are selling. This “passion” will give feelings of satisfaction and gratification to the golf shopper and this is something money cannot buy.

What Are Those Golf Ball Dimples? Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

How many times have you… wondered why there are dimples all over the golf ball?

In this article I will explain to you why golf balls have dimples. How it controls the flight of the ball and why they are really important to your golf game.

Did you know that golf balls were originally smooth? That is right. Smooth as glass. Here is the funny thing though. Golfers started to notice that the older the golf ball with cuts and bruises traveled longer distances!

Apparently the nicks and cuts on the golf ball caused the ball to fly farther down the fairway compared to a brand new ball. So like all golfers will do, they flocked toward the old balls like a moth on a heat lamp!
I imagine at this point some aerodynamicist must have
examined the beat up ball syndrome and realized that the cuts were acting as turbulators. These nicks and cuts were reducing drag which gave greater distance!

The dimples on a golf are the same exact thing as these
nicks and cuts. The just are modernized! I think this is absolutely amazing. I love learning the history and
evolution of golf equipment. Maybe it is custom clubs and how they evolved.

Concluding, I hope you enjoyed this brief article on golf ball dimples. So head to the golf course and don’t worry if your ball bounces off a tree. It may help!

Make sure you do your homework prior to settling on one particular ball this is the best measure in determining the right ball for you.

What Golf Ball Is Right For Me Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Maybe using the same type golf balls as the PGA golf pros will improve your game…and maybe it won’t. You need to choose the golf ball that’s right for your own game. Choosing the wrong kind of golf ball can be a bigger handicap to your game than starting at the 19th hole. Choosing the right kind of golf ball can have you feeling like a Tiger, even if you don’t quite have his handicap.

Golf balls come in three styles: 2-piece, 3-piece, and high performance. 2-piece golf balls are designed for improving your distance, while 3-piece and high performance golf balls can typically help with accuracy.

The 2-piece golf balls are especially good if you’re just starting out or if you’ve played just enough to know you really want to give this sport a try. They’re also terrific for high handicap golfers who have been around a while. Hey, we can’t all be pros! These are the most common type on the market and usually less expensive than 3-piece balls. Best of all, the large rubber core provides faster speed off the tee for those of you with a slow swing. In turn, that gives you greater distance.

It could happen that the first time you played, everyone was astounded at the way you slammed that little white ball with the power of a major league batter aiming for a grand slam. But that’s doubtful. Distance is usually developed over time as you develop your swing and find the groove. When you are just beginning, chances are you need to improve your accuracy more than your distance. Once you’ve developed your accuracy, then is the time to choose a golf ball and clubs that will help improve your distance.

If you haven’t developed consistent accuracy ? that is, having the ball consistently land in the same “general” area each time ? then the 3-piece golf ball probably isn’t right for you. It’s just not as forgiving of miss-hits as the 2-piece golf ball. The same goes for high performance balls. They’re pretty much designed for advanced golfers…and their price bears this out!

One factor to always be considered is cost. Simple, standard 2-piece golf balls usually come in 18-packs and are relatively inexpensive. The cost of golf balls may seem small in comparison to the overall cost of pursuing the sport but the inexperienced golfer can go through a lot of golf balls in a very short space of time!

The key, as with most golf equipment, is to choose the right kind of golf ball for your level of play. Consider your swing and your game, and then choose the ball that will help eliminate your weaknesses and build upon your strengths.

How to Get the Most Distance Out of Your Golf Driver Friday, November 6th, 2009

Golf is a complex game that takes practice, discipline and precision. If you are new to golf, there are several aspects of the game that should be focused on initially. Putting is one such aspect, and, although golf beginners might be new to an 18 hole course, or even the driving range, they probably have experience putting on miniature golf courses. Hitting golf balls with a driver however, is a completely different story.

A golf swing, for many individuals, is a lifelong project, one that takes intense dedication and focus, but the fruits of this effort will be evident by improved performance on the course. The longer and straighter your drives are, the fewer strokes it will take to reach the pin. It is for this reason that practicing your golf swing to get the most distance out of your driver is a crucial aspect of the game that, along with putting, should be focused on initially.

All About Different Junior Golf Equipment Pieces Explored Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

There are many different types of junior golf equipment that can be considered by individuals who are looking to get themselves or their children into the game of golf. Before one can begin to play the game of golf, they need to be prepared for what the game of golf will require. There are different pieces of equipment that can be used by the individual, either to make sure that the individual can learn to strategize with the game of golf better, or just in order to enable the individual to play the game at all. Golf is a very fun sport for those who are interested in it. The world of golf can be highly competitive, but it is also very possible for golf to be relaxing and refreshing.

When an individual is more comfortable with the game of golf and prepared for it, both mentally and physically, it is possible for them to enjoy and excel at the game more easily. Preparation helps individuals to feel less inhibited and successful. Children can be especially self conscious about their activity in sports, which is why it can be so helpful for their parents to explain the game to them before they are presented with the junior golf equipment that they would be using while playing the game.

There are some pieces of junior golf equipment that will seem obvious, and other items that may seem to be less obvious. Of course, an individual will need the correct golf clubs and golf balls. These are the basics and the necessities of junior golf equipment. In addition, it will be very helpful for youths to have a golf club bag, in order for them to easily carry around their equipment. One of the best investments that a person can make when it comes to junior golf equipment is to get a bag with wheels on it. Even junior golf clubs can be heavy at times, and a child will be more capable of moving their clubs from one place to another if they are able to pull or roll the bag around. This will also help to limit the change of injury as the result of a youth carrying a golf bag that is too heavy for them.

Other, less obvious pieces of junior golf equipment would include golf socks and appropriate golf clothing. The socks are to be placed on top of the golf clubs and it helps to keep them clean and neat. There are also some types that can be places over the clubs in order to differentiate between the different types of clubs.

For the individual, having the right type of clothing and shoes is important in order to make sure that they are comfortable in the environment in which they are playing. This is because many people will play worse when they are not comfortable. It can help to have a glove in order to keep the grip on the club. These are not necessary pieces of junior golf equipment, but they are often very important and vital to the individuals that begin to use them.

Golf on a Budget Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

I know what you’re thinking – golf on a budget! Can there be such a thing? Well, it is possible, if you take a balanced, objective look at the strategies used in marketing golf products.

Case in point – I just interviewed a local golf shop owner today. We were talking about the new golf balls, and he was telling me that representatives from different companies send him golf balls to use, hoping that he’ll recommend them to his customers.

Well, he said he’s tried just about everything, and in his opinion, they all play about the same now. Picking up a box of 12 Titleist balls, he said, “This one is probably the best.” They cost $24.99 for the dozen. Then he laughed and picked up another box. “But this one is our best seller.”

The box was priced $44.99 for the dozen. I looked surprised. He shook his head and said, “It’s all hype. People think that if the balls cost double, they’re bound to play better.”

Now we have the new hybrid ironwoods. Are they really going to change your game that much? Or is it all a part of the marketing pitch?

I heard one marketer say that since the golf market was so saturated, he priced his clubs at three times the price of anyone else’s. And he sold hundreds of thousands of dollars worth. The clubs weren’t any more expensive to make than other clubs. It was just a “market test”. And folks bought like crazy.

Since no two people play golf the same – and everyone has an individual physique and swing – a product that adds distance for one player may not help another player at all.

Think about something you do very well that requires a piece of equipment. You’re the expert in this area. Should everyone who attempts your job then buy the exact same equipment as you have? Will that mean they’ll be able to do the job better or as well as you?

Food for thought, isn’t it? I enjoy gardening, and have a lovely flower garden. But I only have one or two garden tools that are considered the best. The other things I use because that’s what I’ve always used.

So just because one golf pro buys one kind of ball or club doesn’t mean that it’s the best for you.

The sales pitches that swear you’re going to add 30 yards and never hit another slice entice us to shell out the big bucks. But if you’re careful and have a healthy dose of skepticism, you’ll save both time and money in the long run.

Remember, in the golf world, just because a product is more expensive, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily any better.

Save $ with Golf Ball Used Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Golf s sometimes a frustrating game. Many have been known to lose their cool after hitting a ball into the rough, a sand trap or the water. Sometimes, the ball just seems to disappear. Tired of wasting all that money on golf balls that don’t seem to ever come back? Try investing in some of the used golf balls available online.

If you golf, chances are you’ve gone through your share of balls. They seem to get lost all the time, and the costs mount quickly. Even the best golfers routinely lose balls, and for the average duffer, these “misplaced” golf balls can quickly become an expensive addition to the golf outing.

Used golf balls that are in great condition and ready to play can be purchased in bulk over the internet. There are many companies that sell used balls, usually in dozens. Different companies have different grading systems but they are all relatively similar.

Most sites describe some sort of quality assurance sorting, so that the balls are graded. Balls are sorted into various categories and sold by the dozen.

Top grade used golf balls are often called Grade A or Grade 1, one or two sites listed them as Grade AAA. They are usually described as like new. Many customers have commented that these balls are often indistinguishable from the new ones, and can be subsequently lost just as quickly as those right out of the sleeve. These are usually described as near perfect with a slight blemish or mark.

Slightly less perfect balls are Grade B or Grade 2. These have more than one mark, but play like new. Accordingly, the price is a bit less than the near perfect ones.

Finally, there is a third grade called Grade C or 3. Occasionally the site will go ahead and call them range balls. These balls are more used, with several marks and blemishes, but would be suitable for range play or practice rounds. These are even less expensive than the others.

Make sure that your site specifies that there are no “X out” or manufacturer rejects. You should be receiving slightly used, but good balls. Also, you may want to inquire if the site you have chosen allows water balls. I’d avoid these if possible.

Check with your local golf club as well. Sometimes local clubs hold sales of used balls to clear their inventories as well. You may be able to buy back some of the balls you lost last season!

Finally, compare price and shipping costs on your used golf balls. Most shipping charges seem to run between $5.95 per dozen and $7.95 per dozen, but verify in advance. You should also be able to get a significant shipping discount for orders of more than one dozen.

Shopping for used golf balls can be a great way to cut the expenses of your golfing habit. Before you hit the links, try purchasing some practice balls you won’t mind losing!

Amazing Golf Gift Ideas Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

If you have a special someone in your life with a passion for playing a full 18 holes, you have a world of possibilities when the holidays, birthdays or other special events roll around. No, you don’t have to settle for a package of golf balls either, there are many other ways to go to find just the right gift idea.

If you’re working on a budget that’s big, great gift ideas can be very elaborate. Consider giving the golfer in your life a weekend getaway to a famous course, complete with a few rounds of golf, dinners and more. The United States is loaded with PGA-rated courses in fantastic vacation getaways, so the trip could be for the both of you. European destinations are great ideas, too, if your budget is particularly large. European trips will help take the golfer back to the sport’s roots and enable him or her to fully immerse in the cultures that created the game.

For those working on a budget that’s a little more modest, the ideas for great gifts for golfers still are many. Here are a few possibilities, keep in mind prices will of course vary:

* A round of golf and lunch at your golfer’s favorite course. This ranks about 100 times higher on the good gift idea list than just a box of balls and it’s more reasonable than a weekend getaway to Europe on a more budgeted wallet.

* Golf lessons from a pro. If you have a golf course around you with a pro that gives lessons this is a fantastic idea for the golfer who’s trying to perfect their swing. Check with area clubs and see what kind of possibilities exist. Some clubs will offer lessons even for those who don’t have memberships, so if one club won’t, keep trying.

* Create a new golf wardrobe. Update your loved one’s golfing apparel. Hit a good pro shop and look for comfortable items that will make him or her look snappy while working on their game.

* Golf gift basket. This one’s perhaps one of the easiest ideas on the purse. A gift basket can include anything you’d like, golf related or not. If you can’t find exactly what you want in a pro shop, buy a basket and make your own. Items that might be included in this golf gift include tees, sun block, a visor cap, shoes, towels, clothing items and the standard set of balls. Other items, too, can be thrown in for fun. Use your imagination and chock it full of great “little” gifts.

* Gift certificates. If all else fails and you can’t decide what your golfer might like, get him or her a gift card to their favorite pro shop. The beauty of this gift is it only has to cost what you can afford and there’s no worries about the wrong item being purchased.

For those with golfers in their life, the best gifts are clearly those that can be used in the pursuit of their favorite sport. For many, golf is more than a game, it’s a passion. Show your golfer you care by helping support their hobby.

Golf Balls — The Science Behind The Dimples Monday, July 13th, 2009

The dynamics behind the flight of the golf ball offers a fascinating insight into the physical interworkings of air pressure, turbulence, and aerodynamics.

When golf was first played in Scotland, most players played using clumsy golf apparatus, with the first golf clubs and golf balls made of wood.

In 1618 the “Featherie” was introduced. It was a golf ball made of feather. This feather golf ball was handcrafted from goose feathers tightly pressed into a horse or cowhide sphere while still wet. After drying, the leather shrank and the feathers expanded, creating a hardened golf ball.

As this type of golf ball was specially handcrafted, it was usually more expensive than golf clubs, so that only a few privileged people could afford to play golf back then.

After the Featherie golf ball came the Guttie golf ball. This type of golf ball was made from the rubber-like sap of the Gutta tree found in the tropics, and was shaped into a sphere when hot and eventually into a golf ball. As it was made of rubber, the Guttie golf ball could be cheaply produced and easily repaired by reheating and reshaping.

Comparing the two types of golf balls, the Featherie golf ball was said to travel farther than the Guttie golf ball because the Guttie golf ball’s smooth surface prevented it from covering more distance.

With this discovery, the developers of golf balls came up with the “dimpled” golf balls that are so predominant in modern golf nowadays.

The dimples on the golf balls help reduce the aerodynamic drag. Aerodynamic drag normally affects smooth golf balls and slows them down, because when they sail through the air, they leave a pocket of low-pressure air in its stir thus creating a drag.

By applying dimples to the golf ball surface, the pressure differential goes down and the drag force is reduced. These dimples create turbulence in the air surrounding the golf ball, which, in turn, forces the air to clasp the golf ball more closely. By doing so, the air trails the warp created by the golf ball towards the back instead of flowing past it. This results in a smaller wake and lesser drag.

Dimples were first added onto golf ball surfaces back during the gutta percha phase. Coburn Haskell introduced the one-piece rubber cored golf ball encased in a gutta percha sphere. Then in 1905 William Taylor applied the dimple pattern to a Haskell golf ball, thus giving rise to the modern golf ball as we know it today.

After its beginning, dimpled golf balls were officially used in every golf tournament. In 1921, the golf ball took its current form with standard size and weight. Nowadays there is a wide range of golf balls to fit every style, game and condition, with some golf balls offering control, and other golf balls offering distance.

Though a common sight nowadays, the dimpled golf ball is not just a mere element of the sports arena; it is a showcase of physics at work.

Golf Equipment: Gearing up Properly for Golf Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Like any other sports, golf requires that you be geared up correctly to be able to properly play the game. This article will give you an idea of basic golf equipment one requires to be able to learn and play golf.

For starters, the basic golf equipment is a golf ball. Golf balls are dimpled tiny balls, use in to play golf. They are dimpled to reach farther length when driven by golf clubs.

Another important golf equipment is a golf club or golf driver. Golf drivers come in different varieties. This is because a golf course has different landscapes and different golf clubs are required to make the proper drive. Depending on the landscape, either sand, grass or cement, a golf club is essential to make the perfect drive. Professional golfers usually have a bag or two of golf clubs to cater to their golf needs. Most golf stores and sports equipment store sell golf clubs. Some golf clubs are sold in sets while other are sold individually.

To protect your golf equipment, such as your golf club, a golf bag golf club cover is essential. A golf bag will, of course, hold your golf club in one place and will make it easier for your caddy to bring your many golf clubs. Golf bags can also hold golf balls and other golf equipment like water bottle to quench your thirst while under the sun or extra shirt or your regular shoes. On the other hand, a golf club cover covers the edge of your golf club. This is done so to protect your golf club from unwanted scratches and dents. Dents can cause your drive to go from ok to bad. Dents in golf clubs can affect the drive of your golf ball. With this golf equipment, you can take care of the state of your club and your game.

One golf equipment that you need to invest on is a good pair of golf shoes. Golf shoes are different from usual rubber shoes or walking shoes. Golf shoes are created to walk on greens – the type where the sport is played. Golf shoes usually have pointed rubber under the soles to grip the earth and sand under your feet. This way, unnecessary shaking or moving is avoided. This is important because shaking can cause you to not hit the golf ball or to hit the golf ball in the wrong direction. If you plan to play professional golf a good pair of golf shoes is a necessary golf equipment to add up to your list. Choose one that is sturdy yet comfortable enough for you to walk into. Golf is a sport that requires walking from one hole to another or to where your ball landed (you can not use golf carts on the greens) and thus, if your golf shoes are uncomfortable, you would have a hard time concentrating on your game.

A golf equipment usually provided by most golf courses (aside from the golf ball) is the tee. The tee is the tiny pin like thing that you punch to the ground to stand your ball into. The tee is use in teeing off (the start of your first drive) thus the name.

The most amazing golf equipment ever created (for me, that is) is the golf cart. Golf carts can take you from one hole to the other, though as I said earlier they are not allowed on the greens, they still lessen the burden of having to walk under the hot sun. This golf equipment can be acquired from golf courses. Golf players are usually made to use golf equipment such as this to give them a better and easier time playing the sport.

Many specialty shops and sport shops offer golf equipment. The Internet is also a good source of golf equipment. Second hand golf equipment are even auctioned off the Internet, if you are on a tight budget. Check out your local golf shop, sports shop, specialty shops, E-bay or Yahoo! for your golf equipment needs.

The Importance of a Good Golf Bag! Monday, July 6th, 2009
Vital necessities

Few things are more important to a golfer than a good golf bag. First off, golf bags come in many styles and a wide variety of colors. You can choose a bag for style, features or pick a color to match your mood.

Some have legs that fold out when they are placed on the ground and stand upright so the golfer doesn’t have to bend down and pick it up. That’s a nice feature in golf bags, especially if the golfer tends to walk the course, as many do. There is plenty of bending to be done when a golfer is trying to remove an obstacle from around his or her ball, or to get the ball out of the cup, so any way to avoid bending over is more than appreciated.

All golf bags have compartments where the golf clubs are to be placed. Each golfer has his or her own way of doing this and putting clubs where he or she wants them. Some golfers, though, are lazy and just stick their clubs in the compartments, grabbing whichever one they want when a particular club is needed. But, some golf bags have tubes to protect the club grips. These are nice to have. With the tubes, a golfer can get his or her clubs out easier. The clubs are never tangled up, and the grips last a lot longer.

Another important factor in choosing a golf bag is the number of pockets it has. Frankly, there’s no such thing as too many pockets in a golf bag. First, one of the pockets will be used to hold the golf bag’s hood. The hood is used to keep the clubs and bag from getting drenched when it rains. Another pocket will be used to keep extra towels (believe it or not, extra towels are important in the summer to keep the sweat off the brow and out of the eyes, along with keeping the hands relatively dry. Then, there is the pocket used for keeping the extra golf tees and possibly the divot tool. Finally, a pocket is needed for the golf balls themselves, and it doesn’t hurt to have a pocket to carry another dozen balls in, just in case.

Some courses are so difficult it is easy to lose a lot of balls during 18-holes of play. This makes having an extra box of balls around a good thing, but there has to be somewhere in the golf bag to keep them, which means another pocket.

Imagine trying to play golf without a bag. The golfer would be constantly stooping over picking up clubs, tees, balls, towels and the divot tool. Then he or she would have to walk to the ball, drop all of the clubs and stuff, select a club, hit the ball, and start the process all over again. It would be a major pain in the neck, and would make it nearly impossible to finish playing a round of golf. So, golf bags are an essential part of the game of golf.

Gift Ideas for Your Golfing Spouse Sunday, July 5th, 2009
If she were golfer...

In today’s golf crazy world, the odds are good that your spouse is a golf fanatic. If they are not fanatics, they are probably at least regular golfers who spend a considerable amount of time hitting the links. If you indeed have a spouse who is an avid golfer, you may be interested in finding that perfect golf gift for them. The question is how can you find something that is a little different but is still the ideal golf gift for your spouse. There are many items of golf equipment and accessories that you can consider purchasing for your spouse. Let’s take a look at some non-traditional golf gifts that you may not have considered.

Does your spouse play different golf courses frequently? Sometimes golfers like to collect golf balls from the many courses that they have played and keep them in a nice wooden collector’s case that they can hang on their wall or on a cabinet in their office. If they already have the golf balls, they might love that collector’s box to keep them in. If they already have the box and a collection of golf balls, maybe purchase a round at a nicer golf club in your area that they haven’t played.

Maybe your spouse has been talking about taking golf lessons. Consider talking to the golf pro at his/her club and have them put together a package of lessons that includes instruction on the range and “on-course” instruction. Many golfers haven’t thought of “on-course” teaching but this can be tremendous fun and help them improve their golf game as well.

A lot of people give golf apparel as a gift so it may seem a little common at first. But have you considered a golf shirt or wind shirt special ordered from a famous golf location? Or maybe give them a very nice rain suit, maybe something in Gore Tex. It may be something they wouldn’t buy for themselves. There are many golf apparel choices nowadays from online stores that you couldn’t find just a few years ago.

You might not normally consider giving golf clubs since it might seem that your golfer has everything, but what about a set of used golf clubs as a second set. What, you say? Used golf clubs? A second set of golf clubs? Well consider this, wouldn’t your golfer love a second set of clubs identical to their first set that they can leave at the golf club and only have to carry their clubs with them when they visit a different golf course? Spoil them with this unusual golf gift! And you can sometimes find them for a price you wouldn’t believe.

If there are some golf clubs that your spouse doesn’t have, you now have a large variety of golf e-tailers online and you can find some great bargains on discount golf clubs. Maybe a special wedge they have been wanting, a new design putter, or a fairway wood to replace those golf irons they can’t hit, like the 3 or 4 iron. Or possibly they have their eye on some brand new golf training club or gadget.

If you are willing to spend some big bucks for a special anniversary or birthday, consider buying a golf trip to a special golf location. They may be dying to play at Pinehurst, Pebble Beach, or maybe even St Andrews. You might even want to go along and enjoy the travel and scenery, or ride along in the golf cart. Or you can pick a golf destination that is very close to one of your favorite pursuits.

One golf gift that your spouse may not expect from you is a subscription to a second golf magazine or to the Golf Channel if they don’t have that. Most times they wouldn’t expect you to encourage them to spend more time watching or reading about golf. But look at it this way, you can give them a golf gift that they love and keep them at home a little more!

Are You Using The Right Golf Balls? Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Contrary to what many people think, all golf balls are not made alike. In fact, they are so diverse that there have been over 5,000 design patents for golf balls given in the last ten years. It may seem like they haven’t changed in decades, but golf balls are some of the most researched and advanced pieces of equipment in any sport today.

Selecting a ball that is right for the way you swing is critical to your golf game. As important as picking the right set of clubs, you need to find the type of golf ball that matches your style of play and your golf swing. Different golf balls have a different spin and a different feel. They are made with different cover materials and of varying density. Picking the one that works for you depends on your skill level and how you hit the ball.

The first thing you might look at is the compression of the ball. This relates to how tightly the ball is wound. The lower the compression the softer the ball. Softer balls are better if you have a slow swing, they will fly farther but are harder to control. High compression balls, on the other hand are easier to control but are best used by those with a fast swing.

To decide which golf ball is best for you, you can divide them into 3 general categories. The solid two piece ball is the most common and, of course, the cheapest. It is comprised of a hard cover over an inner core. This is a good ball for beginners which can often hit the ball thin or fat.

The three piece ball is multilayered. Softer than the two piece ball, it gives you more control but won’t fly as far. This ball is recommended for intermediate players as it will let you get more spin and control over your shots. The three piece ball is more expensive than the two piece but can add an edge to your play if you are past the beginner stage and looking for something to give you an edge.

The high performance balls can be rather costly and won’t last as long as the other types of balls. These balls are for the expert player who wants more control and spin than the three piece ball can offer. Although it is costly, this type of golf ball has what it takes to go the distance.

How Golf Ball Spin Can Help You Beat Your Competition Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Have you ever wondered what in the world can make a golf ball fly so far to the left or to the right? How do you hit those unintentional duck hooks or wicked slices? Why can you never turn or move the ball when you really want to or have to, say to hook it around a tree. Some of these problems have to do with the players swing, and some has to do with the golf ball the player is using.

The golf ball of today has so much technology packed into such a little piece of equipment it’s incredible and picking the right one is almost as important as having the proper irons fitted to your game. Some fitting experts believe that almost 50 % o players are playing with the wrong type of ball. One of the main characteristics in the golf ball is the amount of spin the ball is designed to attain. There are some simple guidelines to follow so you get the proper spin golf ball. Here are the three main types of spin golf balls.

Low Spin Golf Balls
The lower spinning golf balls will help to eliminate the side spin on your shots, which in turn eliminates the chances of that big slice or hook. The ball will end up flying straighter through the air at the target. The one thing to mention about these types of balls is that they may not travel as far through in the air but they make up for it when they hit the ground. Due to the minimal amount of spin produced the balls will roll further when they hit the ground and not spin back. It’s because of these two characteristics that these types of balls are geared toward higher handicappers. They help them hit their shots straighter and they also run out on the fairways.

Mid Spin Golf Balls
The mid spin golf balls are basically here to fill the gap between the low and high spinning balls. They are designed to incorporate both feel and distance together. Thus they attract a huge rage of golfers and with mid handicap games. These golf balls produce a nice feel and control to them as well as allowing some good distance when needed. This will vary depending on the manufacturer as they are offered by most.

High Spin Golf Balls
The high spinning balls are designed mainly to do what the name says; produce a lot of ball spin while they are in the air. A high spinning golf ball will produce a longer carry due to the backspin that happens at impact. They will not get any run on the fairways but they have a huge advantage around the greens. It is this added spin around the greens that allows the player a little more control should they know how to use it. It will help the ball stop quicker on the greens sometimes even with backspin. These balls are mainly used by the lower handicapped players who can take advantage of the characteristics.

Now that you know the different spinning golf ball types, it is important to use them to your advantage. Having the ball that is best suited to your skill level and game should give you a leg up on your playing partners or competition. Try out different balls and take notice of the amount they spin. This simple observation can make a huge difference in your game.
